  • Blue Jays' Spencer Arrighetti: On track to return Friday

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Arrighetti (foot) is "on track to pitch [Friday] if we need him," Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Arrighetti threw 3.2 innings and 50 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, and he came out of a bullpen session Wednesday with no issues. While the right-hander appears in line to be part of Toronto's pitching plan Friday against the Yankees, it's unclear whether it will be a traditional start or in bulk relief. It will be Arrighetti's Blue Jays debut, as he was acquired via trade from the Astros after landing on the 15-day injured list in late July with Morton's neuroma in his right foot.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Arrighetti: Option to start Friday

Arrighetti (foot) could be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Yankees, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Arrighetti threw 3.2 innings and 50 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, so if he does come back Friday he would be facing workload limitations. The right-hander is dealing with Morton's neuroma in his right foot, and the expectation is that he will have to pitch through some discomfort down the stretch for the Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Arrighetti: Resuming rehab Sunday

Arrighetti (foot) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Arrighetti was diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma in his right foot and had to be pulled off his initial rehab assignment with the issue, but the plan is for him to receive treatment and pitch through it. The righty is slated to throw 45-to-60 pitches for Buffalo, and he could be ready to join the Blue Jays' rotation after that.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Arrighetti: Pulled off rehab with foot symptoms

Arrighetti will undergo an MRI on his injured right foot after exiting Thursday's rehab start, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Arrighetti experienced symptoms similar to the nerve issues he's previously dealt with, according to Zwelling. He's meeting the Blue Jays in Philadelphia and will undergo further testing. "Hopefully just a little pause, not a restart or reset," manager John Schneider said Friday. Arrighetti was acquired from the Astros in exchange for Daulton Varsho at the trade deadline earlier this week.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Arrighetti: Shipped to Toronto for Varsho

The Blue Jays acquired Arrighetti (foot) from the Astros on Monday in exchange for outfielder Daulton Varsho and cash considerations. Arrighetti is currently on the shelf while he recovers from right foot nerve irritation, though he threw in the bullpen Sunday and and could be ready for activation by mid-to-late August, per MLB.com. The righty logged a 1.34 ERA in his first eight starts this season but had stumbled with an 8.34 ERA in his last nine outings prior to landing on the injured list. Arrighetti has a career 24.6 percent strikeout rate at the big-league level, though that impressive mark has also come with an 11.5 percent walk rate.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Strikes out six in no-decision

Arrighetti did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-2 extra-innings loss to the Orioles, giving up one run on one hit and four walks with six strikeouts over five innings. Arrighetti allowed only one hit and battled through control issues, limiting the damage despite throwing just 45 of 85 pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old has issued 16 walks with just a 55 percent strike rate over his past four outings, a stretch that includes two one-run performances and two eight-run blowups. He'll take a 4.34 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 87:48 K:BB across 87 innings this season into a road matchup with the White Sox next weekend.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Falls apart in loss

Arrighetti (7-5) took the loss against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing eight runs on seven hits and six walks with two strikeouts over four innings. Arrighetti opened with two scoreless innings but surrendered eight runs over the next three frames without recording an out in the fifth. He threw just 48 of 94 pitches for strikes and will close out the first half having allowed exactly eight earned runs in two of his past three outings while surrendering at least four runs in five of his past seven. He owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 81:44 K:BB across 82 innings this season and will look to regroup during the upcoming All-Star break.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Troubled by long ball in loss

Arrighetti (7-3) took the loss against Cleveland on Saturday, allowing six runs on six hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over six innings. Arrighetti allowed only seven Guardians to reach base, but six came around to score. That was the result of the right-hander serving up three homers, including two to rookie Travis Bazzana. Arrighetti had previously allowed just three long balls over his first 11 outings covering 63 innings this season, so it was unusual for him to struggle to keep the ball in the park. Despite Saturday's blowup, Arrighetti still has a solid 3.13 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB on the campaign. He's projected to make his next start on the road against the Tigers.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Fans seven during loss Sunday

Arrighetti (7-2) took the loss Sunday against the Royals, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings. Sunday's outing was one of Arrighetti's roughest of the season, as the right-hander surrendered a season-high eight hits. The four runs allowed matched his season high. After limiting opponents to two or fewer earned runs in each of his first eight starts, he has now yielded three or more runs in three straight outings. The regression is surprising given his underlying metrics -- Arrighetti entered the start with a 29.5 percent hard-hit rate allowed, ranking in the 94th percentile among MLB pitchers. Despite the recent slide, he still owns an excellent 2.57 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 60:32 K:BB across 63 innings. Arrighetti is scheduled to face Cleveland in his next start.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Records quality start Monday

Arrighetti tossed six innings against the Angels on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven batters in a no-decision. It was a bit of a mixed bag for Arrighetti, as he issued four free passes and unfurled a wild pitch but also racked up 12 whiffs and seven punchouts. The right-hander held things down well outside of the second inning, which is when the Angels scored all three of their runs against him. Though those trio of earned runs marked the second-most Arrighetti has surrendered in an outing this season, he nonetheless finished with his fifth quality start of the campaign. Overall, Arrighetti has enjoyed an excellent season to this point, posting a 7-1 record along with a 2.21 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 53:31 K:BB across 57 frames spanning 10 starts.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: First rough start of season

Arrighetti allowed four runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out three over four innings in a no-decision Wednesday versus the Pirates. Arrighetti ran into trouble in the fourth inning, serving up a grand slam to Henry Davis. This was the first bad outing of the season for Arrighetti -- he had gone at least five innings without allowing more than three runs in any of his first eight games. He's now at a 1.94 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 46:27 K:BB through 51 innings this season. A 4.8 BB/9 and 4.17 FIP suggest he's been fortunate so far, though the walk figure is a mark in line with his career norms. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the Angels.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Takes first loss Saturday

Arrighetti (4-1) took the loss against the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings. All of the damage against Arrighetti came in a three-run fifth inning, and he departed one out shy of a quality start at 93 pitches the following frame. The 26-year-old has yielded just one earned run in four of his five outings this season, though he's also issued at least three walks four times. He owns a 1.88 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 30:17 K:BB across 28.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup against the Mariners next week.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Set to start Monday

Arrighetti will draw the start on the mound for Monday's series opener against the Guardians, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Arrighetti will look to pick up where he left off Wednesday against the Rockies, punching out 10 batters over six innings of one-run ball. The right-hander will get an extended stay with the major-league roster due to Hunter Brown (shoulder), Tatsuya Imai (arm), Cristian Javier (shoulder) and Cody Bolton (back) all currently being on the 15-day injured list.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Set to start against Colorado

Arrighetti will be recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to start against the Rockies on Wednesday or Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Houston's rotation has been hit hard by injuries, losing Cristian Javier (shoulder) and Tatsuya Imai (arm) within the past week alone. Arrighetti will come up to fill one of the vacancies, and his first matchup will come at home against a Rockies offense that's struggled to a .674 OPS through its first 16 games.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Stellar numbers at Triple-A

Arrighetti boasts a 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB over 14.1 innings in his first three starts with Triple-A Sugar Land. Arrighetti covered six innings his last time out Thursday, fanning seven batters in the process. The right-hander failed to land a spot in the Astros' rotation out of spring training, but with Hunter Brown (shoulder) and Cristian Javier (shoulder) going down since then, Arrighetti could get his chance as soon as next week at home against the Rockies. Arrighetti's control problems can make him volatile, but the strikeout upside of the 26-year-old makes him a worthy stash in deeper fantasy leagues.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Mixed results to start spring

Arrighetti allowed four runs on three hits and a walk across two innings in Friday's Grapefruit League matchup with Washington. He struck out four. Arrighetti's spring debut started well, as he struck out a pair of Nationals in a scoreless second inning. However, it was a different story in the third, as the right-hander would give up four runs while recording only two outs, punctuated by a Luis Garcia three-run homer. The 26-year-old Arrighetti had an up-and-down 2025, largely due to injuries. After making Houston's Opening Day rotation, he posted a 5.35 ERA with 31 strikeouts across just seven starts (35.1 innings), missing four months with a fractured thumb as well as the final month with an elbow ailment. The acquisitions of Tatsuya Imai, Mike Burrows and Ryan Weiss have complicated Arrighetti's path to a rotation spot, and he's competing with Weiss, AJ Blubaugh and Lance McCullers for one of the Astros' final two starting jobs.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: UCL intact, will avoid surgery

Arrighetti (elbow) said Saturday that he will miss the remainder of the regular season, but his UCL is intact, and he won't require surgery, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Arrighetti is dealing with right elbow inflammation, and he hopes to resume throwing once the swelling subsides. The diagnosis comes as good news for the right-hander, who landed on the 15-day injured listed earlier this week. Both Arrighetti and the Astros remain hopeful he can return to the mound at some point in the postseason should Houston make the playoffs.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Likely done for regular season

Astros manager Joe Espada said they are still waiting on Arrighetti's (elbow) MRI results Thursday, but that a return during the regular season is unlikely, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Arrighetti was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow inflammation. He's without a clear timeline for his return but isn't likely to be back with the Astros in the final weeks of the regular season.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Fans season-high eight

Arrighetti didn't factor into the decision against the Angels on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and five walks while striking out eight over 6.1 innings. Arrighetti kept the Angels hitless into the third inning before surrendering a solo homer to Zach Neto, which accounted for both his only hit and run allowed. Despite the strong overall line, the right-hander's control issues resurfaced with five walks, a problem that had also plagued him in recent outings. Even so, Saturday's performance brought positives, as Arrighetti set a season high with eight strikeouts and notched his first quality start since returning from the injured list.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Knocked around in return

Arrighetti (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Marlins, allowing five runs on 11 hits and one walk in 3.2 innings. He struck out five. Arrighetti showed plenty of rust and a lack of command on his pitch locations in his first major-league start since April 5 in Minnesota, surrendering a career-high 11 hits Wednesday in his first game back from a thumb fracture. The 25-year-old right-hander did produce 16 whiffs during his abbreviated outing, which was perhaps an encouraging takeaway, but he may have been a bit too aggressive in attacking the strike zone overall. Arrighetti has a rough 7.43 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB over his first 12.2 innings this year, so he'll try to right the ship during a scheduled home tilt versus the Red Sox his next time out.
