  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Troubled by long ball in loss

Arrighetti (7-3) took the loss against Cleveland on Saturday, allowing six runs on six hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over six innings. Arrighetti allowed only seven Guardians to reach base, but six came around to score. That was the result of the right-hander serving up three homers, including two to rookie Travis Bazzana. Arrighetti had previously allowed just three long balls over his first 11 outings covering 63 innings this season, so it was unusual for him to struggle to keep the ball in the park. Despite Saturday's blowup, Arrighetti still has a solid 3.13 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB on the campaign. He's projected to make his next start on the road against the Tigers.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Fans seven during loss Sunday

Arrighetti (7-2) took the loss Sunday against the Royals, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings. Sunday's outing was one of Arrighetti's roughest of the season, as the right-hander surrendered a season-high eight hits. The four runs allowed matched his season high. After limiting opponents to two or fewer earned runs in each of his first eight starts, he has now yielded three or more runs in three straight outings. The regression is surprising given his underlying metrics -- Arrighetti entered the start with a 29.5 percent hard-hit rate allowed, ranking in the 94th percentile among MLB pitchers. Despite the recent slide, he still owns an excellent 2.57 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 60:32 K:BB across 63 innings. Arrighetti is scheduled to face Cleveland in his next start.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Records quality start Monday

Arrighetti tossed six innings against the Angels on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven batters in a no-decision. It was a bit of a mixed bag for Arrighetti, as he issued four free passes and unfurled a wild pitch but also racked up 12 whiffs and seven punchouts. The right-hander held things down well outside of the second inning, which is when the Angels scored all three of their runs against him. Though those trio of earned runs marked the second-most Arrighetti has surrendered in an outing this season, he nonetheless finished with his fifth quality start of the campaign. Overall, Arrighetti has enjoyed an excellent season to this point, posting a 7-1 record along with a 2.21 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 53:31 K:BB across 57 frames spanning 10 starts.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: First rough start of season

Arrighetti allowed four runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out three over four innings in a no-decision Wednesday versus the Pirates. Arrighetti ran into trouble in the fourth inning, serving up a grand slam to Henry Davis. This was the first bad outing of the season for Arrighetti -- he had gone at least five innings without allowing more than three runs in any of his first eight games. He's now at a 1.94 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 46:27 K:BB through 51 innings this season. A 4.8 BB/9 and 4.17 FIP suggest he's been fortunate so far, though the walk figure is a mark in line with his career norms. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the Angels.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Notches seventh win

Arrighetti (7-1) earned the win Thursday against the Rangers after tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits and a walk while fanning three. Arrighetti continues to thrive and has emerged as a key member of the Astros' rotation at a time when the unit desperately needed a boost. This was his fourth quality start of the season, and Arrighetti has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any of his eight outings. He'll take his 1.34 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 8.2 K/9 across 47 innings into his next start, scheduled for next week at home against the Pirates.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Blanks Cubs for sixth win

Arrighetti (6-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing two hits and four walks over five scoreless innings in a 4-2 victory over the Cubs. He struck out five. The right-hander threw only 53 of 89 pitches for strikes and also hit two batters with pitches, but Chicago couldn't generate any offense against Arrighetti despite having runners in scoring position in four of his five frames. The 26-year-old has bailed out an injury-ravaged Astros rotation since making his season debut in mid-April, and he has yet to give up more than two earned runs in a start. Arrighetti will take a 1.32 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:25 K:BB through 41 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week against the Rangers.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Takes first loss Saturday

Arrighetti (4-1) took the loss against the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings. All of the damage against Arrighetti came in a three-run fifth inning, and he departed one out shy of a quality start at 93 pitches the following frame. The 26-year-old has yielded just one earned run in four of his five outings this season, though he's also issued at least three walks four times. He owns a 1.88 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 30:17 K:BB across 28.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup against the Mariners next week.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Strikes out eight in gem

Arrighetti (3-0) notched the win Sunday against the Yankees, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in seven innings. He struck out eight. The right-hander did serve up a pair of extra-base hits, including a sixth-inning home run to Aaron Judge, but he was excellent otherwise Sunday in what was his longest appearance of the campaign thus far. Arrighetti has now begun his season with three straight starts of at least five innings, giving up two runs or fewer in each outing. He's set to bring a strong 2.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB over 18 frames into his next start versus the Red Sox.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Set to start Monday

Arrighetti will draw the start on the mound for Monday's series opener against the Guardians, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Arrighetti will look to pick up where he left off Wednesday against the Rockies, punching out 10 batters over six innings of one-run ball. The right-hander will get an extended stay with the major-league roster due to Hunter Brown (shoulder), Tatsuya Imai (arm), Cristian Javier (shoulder) and Cody Bolton (back) all currently being on the 15-day injured list.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Set to start against Colorado

Arrighetti will be recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to start against the Rockies on Wednesday or Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Houston's rotation has been hit hard by injuries, losing Cristian Javier (shoulder) and Tatsuya Imai (arm) within the past week alone. Arrighetti will come up to fill one of the vacancies, and his first matchup will come at home against a Rockies offense that's struggled to a .674 OPS through its first 16 games.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Stellar numbers at Triple-A

Arrighetti boasts a 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB over 14.1 innings in his first three starts with Triple-A Sugar Land. Arrighetti covered six innings his last time out Thursday, fanning seven batters in the process. The right-hander failed to land a spot in the Astros' rotation out of spring training, but with Hunter Brown (shoulder) and Cristian Javier (shoulder) going down since then, Arrighetti could get his chance as soon as next week at home against the Rockies. Arrighetti's control problems can make him volatile, but the strikeout upside of the 26-year-old makes him a worthy stash in deeper fantasy leagues.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Mixed results to start spring

Arrighetti allowed four runs on three hits and a walk across two innings in Friday's Grapefruit League matchup with Washington. He struck out four. Arrighetti's spring debut started well, as he struck out a pair of Nationals in a scoreless second inning. However, it was a different story in the third, as the right-hander would give up four runs while recording only two outs, punctuated by a Luis Garcia three-run homer. The 26-year-old Arrighetti had an up-and-down 2025, largely due to injuries. After making Houston's Opening Day rotation, he posted a 5.35 ERA with 31 strikeouts across just seven starts (35.1 innings), missing four months with a fractured thumb as well as the final month with an elbow ailment. The acquisitions of Tatsuya Imai, Mike Burrows and Ryan Weiss have complicated Arrighetti's path to a rotation spot, and he's competing with Weiss, AJ Blubaugh and Lance McCullers for one of the Astros' final two starting jobs.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: UCL intact, will avoid surgery

Arrighetti (elbow) said Saturday that he will miss the remainder of the regular season, but his UCL is intact, and he won't require surgery, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Arrighetti is dealing with right elbow inflammation, and he hopes to resume throwing once the swelling subsides. The diagnosis comes as good news for the right-hander, who landed on the 15-day injured listed earlier this week. Both Arrighetti and the Astros remain hopeful he can return to the mound at some point in the postseason should Houston make the playoffs.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Likely done for regular season

Astros manager Joe Espada said they are still waiting on Arrighetti's (elbow) MRI results Thursday, but that a return during the regular season is unlikely, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Arrighetti was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow inflammation. He's without a clear timeline for his return but isn't likely to be back with the Astros in the final weeks of the regular season.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Fans season-high eight

Arrighetti didn't factor into the decision against the Angels on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and five walks while striking out eight over 6.1 innings. Arrighetti kept the Angels hitless into the third inning before surrendering a solo homer to Zach Neto, which accounted for both his only hit and run allowed. Despite the strong overall line, the right-hander's control issues resurfaced with five walks, a problem that had also plagued him in recent outings. Even so, Saturday's performance brought positives, as Arrighetti set a season high with eight strikeouts and notched his first quality start since returning from the injured list.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Knocked around in return

Arrighetti (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Marlins, allowing five runs on 11 hits and one walk in 3.2 innings. He struck out five. Arrighetti showed plenty of rust and a lack of command on his pitch locations in his first major-league start since April 5 in Minnesota, surrendering a career-high 11 hits Wednesday in his first game back from a thumb fracture. The 25-year-old right-hander did produce 16 whiffs during his abbreviated outing, which was perhaps an encouraging takeaway, but he may have been a bit too aggressive in attacking the strike zone overall. Arrighetti has a rough 7.43 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB over his first 12.2 innings this year, so he'll try to right the ship during a scheduled home tilt versus the Red Sox his next time out.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Rejoining rotation in Miami

Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed Sunday that Arrighetti (thumb) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start either Tuesday or Wednesday in Miami, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Arrighetti is finally ready to rejoin the Houston rotation after he had been on the shelf since April 8 due to a right thumb fracture, which he sustained when he was struck by a flyball during batting practice. The right-hander kicked off a rehab assignment July 19, and over his three outings between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land, Arrighetti turned in a 5.73 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB in 11 innings. He got stretched out to 4.2 innings and 79 pitches in his final rehab outing with Sugar Land this past Thursday, so Arrighetti is unlikely to face any major workload restrictions in his return to the Astros.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Roughed up in rehab start

Arrighetti (thumb) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out five across 4.2 innings in his rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Sugar Land. He also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. Arrighetti made his third rehab outing and his first at Triple-A, and though his results weren't great, he built up to 79 pitches (50 strikes). Assuming the right-hander comes out of his next bullpen session no worse for the wear, the Astros could activate him from the 60-day injured list to make a start during their series in Miami early next week. Arrighetti has been on the shelf since April 8 due to a right thumb fracture.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Makes second rehab appearance

Arrighetti (thumb) threw 62 pitches in his rehab appearance Saturday with Double-A Corpus Christi. Arrighetti covered 3.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out two. He was sharper in his first rehab outing, though he did progress from 43 pitches. Arrighetti will make at least one more rehab appearance before being activated.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Set to face hitters soon

Astros manager Joe Espada said Friday that Arrighetti (thumb) is expected to complete one more bullpen session before he faces live hitters, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Arrighetti completed 15- and 20-pitch bullpen sessions June 24 and June 27, respectively, so he'll presumably build on that pitch count while mixing in all of his offerings during his next side session. The right-hander will likely need to throw multiple live batting practice sessions before then heading out on a rehab assignment, perhaps shortly after the All-Star break. Arrighetti appears to be tracking toward a late-July or early-August return from the 60-day injured list, but a more precise target date won't come into focus until he's out on the rehab assignment.
