Giolito was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday.

Giolito began experiencing symptoms last week, but the White Sox are hoping the right-hander will be able to rejoin the team sometime next week, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. It's possible the 27-year-old will miss a turn through the rotation, but it doesn't sound as though the team anticipates a lengthy absence. Giolito has posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 26.2 innings over his first five starts in 2022.

Ryu (forearm) will be activated from the 10-day injured list and start Saturday's game at Tampa Bay, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The veteran left-hander has been sidelined since forearm inflammation cropped up during his second start of the season April 16, but he'll rejoin Toronto's starting rotation Saturday. Ryu made one rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo and threw 74 pitches over four innings, so he could have some minor workload limitations in his first outing back from the injured list.

Gil was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Gil served as a spot starter Thursday against the White Sox but settled for a no-decision after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five in four innings. He has a 9.53 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 17 innings over five minor-league starts this year and will likely need to generate better results if he hopes to gain a full-time role with the major-league club at some point in 2022.

Cease did not factor in the decision against the Yankees on Thursday, hurling four innings during which he gave up six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 11.

Cease racked up an impressive 20 swinging strikes among his 90 pitches and tied his season high with 11 punchouts, but he also surrendered his most runs of the campaign thus far. He was victimized by a pair of Giancarlo Stanton homers in the contest that accounted for four of the six runs against him. The right-hander had been excellent at keeping the ball in the park prior to Thursday, allowing just one homer over his first six starts. Despite the tough outing, Cease has been a solid fantasy asset this season, tying for the league lead with 58 strikeouts while posting a 3.55 ERA over 38 innings. HIs next start is scheduled to come in Kansas City early next week.

Gil allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking five over four innings Thursday against the White. He did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander was called up from Triple-A earlier in the day to make a spot start with the Yankees in the midst of a stretch of six games over five days. He flashed some good stuff by inducing 17 swinging strikes and racking up five punchouts, but a three-run second inning was largely to blame for an overall ineffective final line. Gil will likely head back to the minors, where he has struggled with a 9.53 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across 17 innings this season.

Mize (elbow) allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out none across two-thirds of an inning during a rehab appearance with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Mize showed significant rust, which isn't a particular surprise given that he's been sidelined since mid-April. Positively, there has been no word of a setback. However, Mize was pulled after only 29 pitches, so he will likely require at least one more rehab outing, and potentially more, before being activated from the injured list.

Kaprielian allowed two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one across five innings Thursday against Detroit. He did not factor into the decision.

Kaprielian held the Tigers scoreless through four innings but faltered in the fifth frame by allowing a single, walk and double to consecutive batters. He otherwise effectively limited damage by inducing eight groundball outs, though he had only seven swinging strikes on 75 pitches. After being hit hard in his first outing, Kaprielian has allowed only four earned runs across his last 10.2 innings. However, to maintain that success, he'll need to improve upon his current 10:9 K:BB.

Garcia (3-1) earned the win and struck out nine in five scoreless innings Thursday, allowing five hits and two walks in a 5-0 victory in Minnesota.

Garcia allowed at least one baserunner in each inning but held the Twins scoreless in large part due to his nine punchouts. Even though it was his second-shortest start of the season, his 95 pitches thrown were a season-high. The 25-year-old has recorded exactly nine strikeouts and two walks in consecutive games and has a 37:9 K:BB for the season. Through six starts he has an excellent 2.94 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.

Javier will start Saturday against the Nationals, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Javier followed Jake Odorizzi in his last outing, throwing three scoreless innings Sunday against the Tigers. Javier will have the chance to start in a traditional role Saturday, with Odorizzi likely pushed back a few days. Across 21.2 innings this season, Javier has maintained a 0.83 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB while working as both a starter and multi-inning reliever.

Urquidy allowed one run on three hits across three innings during Wednesday's 11-3 win over the Twins. He struck out three and walked zero.

Urquidy allowed doubles to Max Kepler and Jorge Polanco during the first inning, resulting in his only earned run. However, the right-hander's outing was cut short when the contest was suspended due to inclement weather at the end of the third inning. Urquidy's next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday's matchup in Boston.
