Boyle (1-2) suffered a tough-luck loss Saturday versus the Nationals. He yielded one run on five hits and one walk while striking out five in five innings of work.

Just one free pass from the big right-hander was an encouraging development after he surrendered seven of them across his first two outings. He nonetheless was dealt his second loss, as the Athletics offense was unable to do much against MacKenzie Gore and the Nationals bullpen. Boyle has 15 strikeouts over 12.2 frames this season, but unless he can string together multiple outings like this one where his control is adequate, the downside will likely continue to outweigh the upside.

Alexander will serve as a bulk reliever for the Rays on Sunday against the Giants, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Shawn Armstrong will handle opener duties before handing things over to Alexander. The left-handed Alexander has had a rough go of it so far in his first season in Tampa Bay, permitting nine earned runs on 14 hits through 9.1 innings.

Marsh (2-0) earned the win over the Mets on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out two batters.

The Mets got to Marsh for four runs in the first three innings, but he ended his day with a couple scoreless frames, and the Kansas City offense provided more than enough support to power him to the win. Marsh has allowed just one home run through three starts this season -- Pete Alonso's long ball Saturday -- and the right-hander has a serviceable 4.32 ERA and 1.08 WHIP despite having only 10 strikeouts through 16.2 innings. He's firmly in the streaming mix but will make for a tough call next week in a projected home start against the Orioles.

Crochet (1-2) took the loss to the Reds on Saturday, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out 10.

Crochet was close to getting out of the second inning with only a couple earned runs allowed, but he had a few borderline calls go against him with two outs, and Spencer Steer cashed in with a three-run double. It was still an impressive performance in terms of whiffs, and through four career starts Crochet has a 3.57 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB in 22.2 innings. His transition to the starting rotation has gone about as well as anyone could have hoped for to date, but the team context is a mark against him, and his schedule doesn't get any easier in the short term with a trip to Philadelphia on tap for next week.

Maeda didn't factor in the decision during Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins after he gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out five.

Maeda surrendered four homers in his first two outings, but he kept the ball in the yard Saturday and delivered his first quality start of the campaign. The right-hander wasn't exactly dominant as he generated just six swinging strikeouts on 87 pitches, but he was able to hold Minnesota at bay despite giving up three doubles. Through three starts Maeda now has a 6.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 10:5: K:BB across 14 innings.

Ryan struck out 12 and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk over six innings during Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers. He did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander induced 20 whiffs as he pounded the zone Saturday, with 70 of his 96 pitches going for strikes. Most of the damage against Ryan came during the opening frame on a two-out, two-run homer from Kerry Carpenter, though both runs were unearned due to an error earlier in the frame. The 27-year-old has given up three runs or fewer in each of his first three outings of the season and has two straight quality starts, but he's still in search of his first victory.

Carrasco (0-1) took the loss in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees after giving up a run on five hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out two.

The veteran right-hander allowed at least one baserunner in every inning he pitched, though he was able to limit the damage to a single run despite all the traffic. Carrasco has failed to last five frames in his last two starts, though he still has a solid 3.66 ERA for the season. His 1.66 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB are less encouraging, however.

Schmidt (1-0) earned the win in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

Schmidt issued at least three walks for the second straight game but otherwise pitched well at Cleveland with 13 swinging strikes on 85 pitches. The right-hander also set a season high in strikeouts, and he's given up three runs or fewer in each of his first three outings of the campaign. Schmidt will carry a 3.68 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB over 14.1 innings into his next start, which is likely to come versus Tampa Bay next weekend.

Woo (elbow) threw an up-down bullpen session Friday and could head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma at some point next week, SeattleSports.com reports.

The update comes via Mariners general manager Justin Hollander, who added Woo will need to get in a live batting practice as his next step before engaging in a three-inning rehab start. Woo would likely be set for two rehab starts overall whenever he does make it down to the farm, per Hollander, and he then would be evaluated for possible activation.

Medina (knee) has started a running program, the Associated Press reports.

Medina was just transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday as he continues a deliberate recovery from a Grade 2 MCL sprain he was originally diagnosed with in early March. While the right-hander still appears to be some time away from even progressing to bullpen sessions, he could certainly begin accelerating his rehabilitation process if he's able to carry out the running program without any setbacks.
