Petersen (forearm) struck out two batters and allowed no hits and one walk over a scoreless inning of relief en route to claiming his 18th hold of the season in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Mets.

Petersen suffered an injury scare a week ago when he took a line drive off of his right forearm, but he escaped with little more than a bruise and was deemed ready to pitch after a few days of rest. The righty made his return to the mound in Thursday's series opener and was charged with two earned runs across two-thirds of an inning, but he was much sharper Sunday. His 18 holds lead the Marlins, and he lowered his ERA to 3.13 for the season after tossing the scoreless frame.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Sunday that Barnett will maintain his spot in the rotation during the upcoming week, Jason Burke of Roundtable.io reports.

After coming up from Triple-A Las Vegas on July 22, Barnett entered the rotation last weekend and tossed 3.1 innings of bulk relief in a 2-0 loss to the Twins. He then handled a traditional starting role for his next appearance Thursday, limiting a red-hot Red Sox squad to three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings. He's earned himself a more permanent stay in the rotation, even though the Athletics will get J.T. Ginn (finger) back from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Kotsay confirmed that the Athletics won't be moving to a five-man rotation, so one of Jeffrey Springs, Jack Perkins, Jacob Lopez and Gage Jump would appear to be in line to lose his starting role.

The Nationals transferred Poulin (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Poulin had been on the shelf since July 19 due to a left flexor strain, and his move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll remain out through Sept. 13. The southpaw's move to the 60-day frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for one of Yovanny Cruz and Jake Bird, two of the four players the Nationals acquired Sunday in the deal that sent Luis Garcia to the Yankees.

The Nationals optioned Cornelio to Triple-A Rochester following Sunday's 4-2 loss to Atlanta.

Cornelio will return to Triple-A after just over a month-long stay in the big leagues. The right-hander posted a 4.63 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 11.2 innings in eight appearances in his second stint of the season with the Nationals. His demotion will clear a spot in the bullpen for right-hander Yovanny Cruz, who was one of four players the Nationals acquired from the Yankees on Sunday in exchange for first baseman Luis Garcia.

Go began serving a 10-game suspension at Triple-A St. Paul on July 25 after he was ejected from his appearance against Columbus a day earlier when an illegal substance was found in his glove, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

The 28-year-old right-hander was making his debut for St. Paul after the Twins optioned him to the Triple-A affiliate. Go, who retains a spot on the Twins' 40-man roster, allowed four earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings in four appearances for the big club prior to his demotion. He'll be eligible to return to action for St. Paul on Thursday.

Zeferjahn allowed two hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the save in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Zeferjahn came in during the eighth inning after Sam Bachman (arm) was lifted due to fatigue. While it wasn't quick and tidy from there, Zeferjahn threw 24 of 30 pitches for strikes and worked around a pair of singles to preserve the lead. He's given up three runs, nine hits, two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out 21 over his last 12.1 innings, adding two saves and three holds in that span. Zeferjahn is at a 3.66 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 75:32 K:BB through 51.2 innings this season. He has held onto a high-leverage spot for most of the campaign, collecting four saves and nine holds for the worst team in the majors.

The Tigers released Guenther on Friday.

Guenther made nine appearances for the big club in 2025, but he's spent all of 2026 at Triple-A Toledo after losing his spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster over the winter. The 30-year-old lefty posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.73 WHIP across 16.2 innings over 12 appearances with Toledo before hitting the 7-day injured list May 6 due to an unspecified health concern.

Bachman is dealing with right arm fatigue, Jack Janes of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

Bachman entered Sunday's 3-0 win over Milwaukee in the top of the eighth inning, recording one out while walking a batter before he was removed from the contest. Bachman threw nine total pitches before his departure, and manager Kurt Suzuki explained after the game that the right-handed pitcher is dealing with some "dead arm." Bachman is expected to be further evaluated, and it's currently unclear if he'll need to undergo an MRI.

The Nationals acquired Bird and right-handers Yovanny Cruz, Ben Grable and Jack Cebert (undisclosed) from the Yankees on Sunday in exchange for first baseman Luis Garcia, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Washington optioned Bird to Triple-A Rochester.

Bird will be on the move from the second trade deadline in a row after being shipped from the Rockies to the Yankees last summer. Before the Yankees optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 19, Bird had struggled over 36 appearances with the Yankees, pitching to a 5.93 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 30.1 innings in 36 appearances. Though he'll start out his time in the Nationals organization at Triple-A, Bird might not have to wait long for a call-up to a Washington bullpen that's lacking in dependable arms.

Peguero (hamstring) threw a 15-pitch live bullpen session Friday at the Giants' facility in Arizona, MLB.com reports.

Peguero is scheduled to repeat the activity again Wednesday, and if all goes well, he could then start throwing live batting practice. The reliever has been on the shelf since June 1 due to a left hamstring strain and appears to be trending toward a late-August return from the injured list.
