  • Jordan Wicks SP | CHC

Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Bumped to minors

Wicks was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, per MLB's transaction log.

Wicks surrendered a pair of unearned runs over two innings Sunday against the Diamondbacks and will now look to get back on track in the minors. The Cubs have yet to announce a corresponding move.

  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Secures second save

Vest picked up the save in Monday's 6-4 win against the Padres, pitching a clean inning with one strikeout.

After both Tommy Kahnle (18 pitches) and Tyler Holton (28 pitches) appeared in Sunday's loss, Vest was called upon to polish off this win. The 29-year-old righty performed admirably, setting down the side in order on 10 pitches, nine of which were strikes. While Kahnle and Holton are the best candidates for saves in the Detroit bullpen, the closer situation is far from settled. Vest, with his stellar 0.93 ERA and 0.62 WHIP across 9.2 innings, is likely to see save opportunities here and there throughout the season.

  • Cade Smith RP | CLE

Guardians' Cade Smith: Called upon for first save

Smith collected the save in Monday's 6-4 victory over the Yankees, pitching a scoreless inning while allowing one hit and no walks. He struck out two.

Smith neatly retired the side on 11 pitches, which included nine strikes. The 25-year-old completed the feat in style, striking out Aaron Judge swinging to end the game. Smith earned the save chance because Emmanuel Clase had pitched on three consecutive days prior to Monday. Despite the Cleveland closer's unsightly 7.84 ERA over 10.1 innings, Smith will likely remain in a setup role for the time being.

  • Jose Castillo RP | NYM

Diamondbacks' Jose Castillo: Makes 2025 debut

Castillo (adductor) was activated from the 7-day injured list and recorded two strikeouts across a scoreless inning Saturday for Triple-A Reno.

Castillo began the season on the injured list due to left adductor tightness, but he's since been given the green light to return to the mound. He entered spring camp as a non-roster invitee before going down with the injury, so he could be an option for a mid-season promotion if he pitches well at Triple-A.

  • Craig Yoho RP | MIL

Brewers' Craig Yoho: Officially added to roster

The Brewers selected Yoho's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Yoho had spun 9.2 innings while allowing just on unearned run with Nashville to begin the season, striking out nine and walking three along the way. The changeup artist boasts a 38.8 percent strikeout rate in his minor-league career. Yoho is one of the best relief pitching prospects in baseball and could eventually be pitching in the late innings.

  • Nick Sandlin RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Nick Sandlin: Set to receive PRP injection

Sandlin will receive a PRP injection for his right lat Tuesday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Sandlin landed on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right lat strain, and the hope is that the injection speeds up the recovery process. He'll be monitored over the next few days, and how he reacts to the treatment will help determine his rehab program and throwing schedule. Sandlin logged a 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, one save and two holds across eight innings prior to his placement on the IL.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | LAA

Cubs' Drew Pomeranz: Acquired by Cubs

The Mariners traded Pomeranz to the Cubs on Monday for cash considerations, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Pomeranz signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners in March and appeared in nine games for Triple-A Tacoma, logging a 4.66 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB across 9.2 innings. The veteran southpaw will report to Triple-A Iowa and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 with the Padres, but he could see work out of the Cubs' bullpen soon, per Rosenthal.

  • Erik Swanson RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Erik Swanson: Slated for another BP

Swanson (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Swanson threw a simulated game Saturday, and if his upcoming bullpen session goes well he could be sent on a rehab assignment. He's progressing in his recovery from carpal tunnel in his right elbow, but barring any setbacks he could return in early May. Swanson appeared in 45 games for the Blue Jays in 2024 and registered a 5.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB across 39.1 innings.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Set to begin rehab assignment

Loaisiga (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Tampa on Saturday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Loaisiga is just over 12 months removed from an internal brace procedure on his right elbow and has finally been cleared for game appearances. His rehab assignment figures to be a lengthy one given how much time he's missed. Loaisiga could work his way back into high-leverage relief situations for the Yankees, but it will take a while.

  • Braves' Michael Petersen: Recalled by Atlanta

Atlanta recalled Petersen from Triple-A Gwinnet on Monday.

Petersen will take the spot on the 26-man roster vacated by Spencer Strider (hamstring), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Petersen has spent most of the season in Triple-A but did make a major-league appearance against the Rays on April 13, when he struck out one batter in two scoreless innings.
