    Pirates' David Bednar: Collects 10th save

    Bednar earned the save against the Cubs on Friday after tossing a perfect 10th inning.

    Bednar was brought in for the 10th frame to protect the Pirates' 2-1 lead and took care of the top of the Cubs' order on just 13 pitches (11 strikes). He's recorded a save in four of his last five outings and has converted all 10 save opportunities this season. Bednar has a 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 23.2 innings this season.

    Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Throws bullpen session

    Treinen (forearm) threw a bullpen session Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

    Treinen was cleared to play catch in mid-May, and Friday marked his second bullpen session since landing on the injured list in mid-April due to a right forearm sprain. He'll likely need multiple bullpen sessions without setbacks before embarking on a rehab assignment, by which point the Dodgers should have a better idea of a timeline for his return to the majors. Treinen posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across eight innings prior to his injury.

    Blue Jays' Nick Sandlin: Rehab moved to Triple-A

    Sandlin (lat) allowed four runs on four hits and no walks in one-third of an inning during Thursday's rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo.

    Sandlin made a pair of rehab outings in the Florida Complex League and has had his assignment shifted to Triple-A. The 28-year-old allowed a pair of homers in Thursday's appearance, but, per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, the Blue Jays are more focused on how he bounces back from the outing. He'll likely need another appearance or two before being activated from the 15-day injured list.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Will undergo TJ surgery

    Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Martinez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.

    Martinez was already ruled out for the rest of the 2025 season due to a UCL sprain in the right elbow. After multiple consults, the 23-year-old will undergo Tommy John surgery for a second time after going through with the procedure in 2021. Given the timeline for recovery, Martinez will miss a significant portion of the 2026 season. Shelby Miller is the next man up to take on closing duties for Arizona in Martinez's absence.

    Blue Jays' Ryan Burr: Facing batters Saturday

    Burr will throw a live batting-practice session Saturday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

    Burr is making steady progress since being pulled off his rehab assignment at the end of May and appears to be close to resuming an assignment. The 31-year-old has yet to make his 2025 MLB debut but appears to be on track for a late June or early July return.

    Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Completes bullpen

    Garcia (shoulder) completed a bullpen session at the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida on Thursday,Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

    Garcia began playing catch June 6 and has progressed to throwing off a mound. He's been on the shelf since May 24 due to a right shoulder impingement and is likely still multiple weeks away from returning.

    Nationals' Mason Thompson: Close to rehab assignment

    Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Thompson (elbow) will make one more outing in the Florida Complex League before embarking on a rehab assignment, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

    Thompson is in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in March of 2024. If all goes well with his next outing in the FCL, the 27-year-old right-hander will be given the green light to start a rehab assignment and work his way back up to the majors. He appeared in 51 regular-season games out of the bullpen for the Nationals in 2023 and posted a 5.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, three saves, 10 holds and a 44:22 K:BB across 54 innings.

    White Sox's Owen White: Relegated to Triple-A

    The White Sox Sox" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_TEAM" data-league-abbreviation="MLB" data-team-abbreviation="CHW">White Sox optioned White to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

    White made only one appearance for the White Sox after being recalled last week, during which he gave up three runs and struck out five batters across 4.1 innings. With Tyler Gilbert (knee) now back from the injured list, White will return to the minors to continue serving as starter/long-relief depth.

    Red Sox's Justin Slaten: Not cleared to throw yet

    Slaten (shoulder) hasn't started playing catch yet, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reported Friday

    Slaten has been shut down from throwing for nearly two weeks, having not played catch since hitting the injured list June 1 with right shoulder inflammation. It's unclear when he'll get the green light to throw, but he may not be ready to go until July.

  • Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW

    White Sox's Tyler Gilbert: Reinstated from IL

    The White Sox reinstated Gilbert (knee) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

    Gilbert made five minor-league appearances during his rehab assignment, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven across 5.2 innings. He will return to the majors after spending the last month on the 15-day injured list due to a right MCL injury in his left knee. Gilbert posted a 4.85 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB across 13 innings prior to his stint on the IL.
