Suter will be the first pitcher on the mound for the Rockies in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.

The Rockies haven't officially termed Suter an "opener," nor have they announced which reliever will handle the bulk innings behind him, but it's almost certain that's what this will be, rather than a conventional start. Suter does have starting experience from early in his career, but he hasn't thrown more than two innings in any of his 51 appearances this season.

Zerpa (2-3) allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out five over four innings to earn the win Friday over the Astros.

Zerpa has bounced between the rotation and the bullpen, and his appearance Friday was as a long reliever behind Zack Greinke, who went just two innings. Zerpa threw 70 pitches (43 strikes) in an effective appearance. He's allowed just two runs over his last nine innings, an improvement on his 5.63 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB through 32 innings overall. Zerpa could continue to serve as a piggyback option for Greinke or Alec Marsh over the last two weeks of the season.

Holmes struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning to pick up a save against Pittsburgh on Friday.

Holmes entered with the Yankees holding a two-run lead and needed just 10 pitches to retire the side in order. The right-hander hasn't allowed a run in any of his past eight appearances, posting an 8:3 K:BB and racking up four saves during that stretch. Holmes' save Friday was his 20th of the campaign, tying the amount he had last season in his first season as a closer.

Williams struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 35th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Nationals.

The right-hander's Airbender changeup was in peak form, as Carter Kieboom, Ildemaro Vargas and Luis Garcia all went down swinging against the pitch. Since the beginning of August, Williams has posted an elite 1.76 ERA, 0,65 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB through 15.1 innings while collecting three wins and nine saves in 17 appearances as he establishes himself as one of the premier closers in baseball.

Clarke gave up a solo home run and struck out three in the ninth inning Friday to record his first save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Astros.

Carlos Hernandez worked the eighth inning for the Royals, so Clarke got the call to finish things up and was dominant aside from a one-out blast by Jose Abreu. Clarke has been tagged for a run in four straight appearances but has also struck out at least one batter in nine straight since being activated from the IL in mid-August, posting a 4.15 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB through 8.2 innings over that stretch. Hernandez had the last three saves for Kansas City prior to Friday, but Clarke's high strikeout rate should keep him in the high-leverage mix as the team evaluates bullpen options for 2024.

Gibaut allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn a hold in Friday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Gibaut entered with two runners on and none out in the bottom of the seventh and pitched out of the danger to record his team-high 22nd hold. He's made 68 appearances, tying him for third in the majors, and has a 3.07 ERA over a career-high 70.1 innings.

Antone has tendonitis in his throwing elbow, MLB.com reports.

Antone underwent an MRI on Thursday that confirmed the discomfort that forced him to the 15-day injured list was a bout of tendonitis, a diagnosis that manager David Bell said was "about as good as you can get." The reliever will get treatment and could return before the end of the regular season.

Phillips allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.

Phillips again flirted with danger after taking a loss in his outing Monday versus the Padres. He had runners on the corners with two outs but got Teoscar Hernandez to strike out to end the threat. Phillips is 23-for-25 in save chances while adding six saves this season, and he's maintained a 2.43 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 61:11 K:BB through 55.2 innings. He's converted his last 11 save chances in a row.

Newcomb (1-1) allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over three innings to take the loss versus the Padres on Friday.

Newcomb earned his second start in a row, but this one wasn't as good as his four scoreless innings versus the Rangers last Saturday. All four runs came over his first two innings, and he needed 79 pitches (46 strikes) to complete an inefficient three frames. The lefty has a 3.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB through 15 innings over seven appearances (two starts) in the majors this year. Newcomb is tentatively projected for a home start versus the Mariners next week if he remains in the rotation.

Thompson (5-6) allowed four runs on five hits and two walks over five innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.

Thompson got off to a rocky start by giving up four runs in the first inning. He didn't face much of a threat after that and was able to settle in for four shutout frames to end his night. Thompson had allowed three or fewer runs while tossing at least four frames in seven straight appearances before Friday's outing. He'll carry a 4.34 ERA into his next start, which is currently lined up to be at home against the Brewers.
