  • Taylor Rogers RP | CHC

Cubs' Taylor Rogers: Traded again within NL Central

The Pirates traded Rogers to the Cubs for Ivan Brethowr on Thursday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

Rogers' stay with the Pirates did not last long after he was traded from the Reds to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. As expected, the reliever was acquired by the Pirates to be flipped, which landed the Pirates an outfield prospect. Rogers should serve as a high-leverage relief option in Chicago.

  • Griffin Jax RP | TB

Rays' Griffin Jax: Traded to Rays

The Rays acquired Jax from the Twins on Thursday in exchange for Taj Bradley, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Jax briefly appeared poised to step in as Minnesota's closer after Jhoan Duran was dealt on Wednesday, but the Twins instead fully committed to being deadline sellers. Jax had been operating has a setup man and is likely to fill the same role in Tampa Bay, though closer Pete Fairbanks' 5.79 ERA in his past nine outings could provide a path to saves.

  • Evan Sisk RP | PIT

Pirates' Evan Sisk: Sent to Pittsburgh

The Pirates acquired Sisk and Callan Moss from the Royals on Thursday in exchange for Bailey Falter, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Sisk has spent most of the campaign at the Triple-A level, though he did make his MLB debut for the Royals earlier this year and gave up one earned run with an 11:5 K:BB across 5.1 innings. He'll have a clearer path to the big-league bullpen in Pittsburgh.

  • Orioles' Tyson Neighbors: Traded to Baltimore

The Padres traded Neighbors to the Orioles on Thursday as part of the package for Ramon Laureano and Ryan O'Hearn, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. The Orioles also received Brandon Butterworth, Victor Figueroa, Cobb Hightower, Boston Bateman and Tanner Smith in return.

Neighbors has flown up the Padres' farm system since being drafted last season, and he currently boasts a 3.13 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP and a 27:13 K:BB through 23 innings in Double-A. The 22-year-old righty will aim to continue his fast ascent through the minors with the Orioles, though his MLB debut will likely have to wait until next season.

  • Sean Linan RP | WAS

Nationals' Sean Paul Linan: Traded to Nationals

Linan was traded from the Dodgers to the Nationals on Thursday along with Eriq Swan in exchange for Alex Call, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Linan put up silly numbers at Single-A to start the year (1.21 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 29.2 innings) and has been excellent after a promotion to High-A, where he has a 2.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. Linan's changeup is easily his best pitch, and he could run into more trouble in the upper levels.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Mets' Chris Devenski: Sent down to Syracuse

The Mets optioned Devenski to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Devenski has turned in a 2.84 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through 12.2 innings with the Mets this season, but he'll end up back on the roster at Syracuse to make room in New York's bullpen for the newly acquired Tyler Rogers.

  • Danny Coulombe RP | TEX

Rangers' Danny Coulombe: Dealt to Rangers

The Rangers acquired Coulombe from the Twins on Thursday in exchange for Garrett Horn.

Coulombe turned himself into a nice trade chip for the Twins by posting a 1.16 ERA and 31:9 K:BB over 31 innings. The southpaw is effective against both left- and right-handed hitters and should help fill a setup role in Texas.

  • Jacob Bird RP | NYY

Yankees' Jake Bird: Traded to Yankees

The Yankees acquired Bird from the Rockies on Thursday in exchange for Roc Riggio and Ben Shields, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Bird has had a rough July, allowing 15 runs (14 earned) with a 5:4 K:BB over 6.1 innings. However, he entered the month with a 2.68 ERA and 57:19 K:BB over 47 frames, and the Yankees are betting he'll be closer to the latter version. Bird also comes with team control through the 2028 campaign.

  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Gets setup support

Vest should remain Detroit's closer, but the club has some new setup options in front of him with the Tigers adding Rafael Montero, Kyle Finnegan and Codi Heuer in separate trades, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Finnegan had been Washington's closer before the deal, compiling a 4.38 ERA and 20 saves in 40 appearances, but he isn't a big strikeout guy with only 32 over 39 innings. Vest has a stronger 2.53 ERA and has also struck out 51 batters across 46.1 innings, so he still profiles as the best closing option for Detroit. However, Finnegan and the other relievers at least give the Tigers some more options to mix and match with. Detroit also added former closer Paul Sewald (shoulder) in a trade, but he was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, and won't be eligible for activation until Sept. 10.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Yankees' David Bednar: Going to Yankees in trade

The Yankees acquired Bednar from the Pirates on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Pittsburgh received Rafael Flores and two other prospects in the deal.

Bednar had a poor 2024 season and a bad enough start to 2025 that he was sent down to the minors for a while. However, he has rebounded in a major way, permitting just one earned run with a 29:5 K:BB over 23.1 innings covering his last 24 appearances. It's not clear whether manager Aaron Boone will use Bednar, Devin Williams or both to close games. Bednar has an additional year of team control next season.
