  • Yankees' Jake Bird: Sent down after Saturday's game

The Yankees optioned Bird to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Bird pitched scoreless innings in both Friday's and Saturday's contests, lowering his ERA to 4.88 through 24 innings on the season. He'll now end up as the roster casualty necessary to create space in preparation for Elmer Rodriguez's promotion Sunday. Bird is likely to return to the Bronx at some point this season when the Yankees need a fresh arm in the bullpen or an injury replacement.

  • Yankees' Jake Bird: Secures sixth hold Tuesday

Bird notched a hold against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, striking out one batter and hitting one over a scoreless and hitless two-thirds of an inning. Bird entered in the seventh inning with New York ahead 5-3. He retired the first two batters he faced before hitting Vladimir Guerrero with a pitch. Bird was pulled after the HBP, and Guerrero was ultimately stranded. Bird has given up just two earned runs while recording an 8:3 K:BB over his past 11 appearances spanning 8.1 innings. He's been in the high-leverage mix with five holds over that span.

  • Yankees' Jake Bird: Bumped to Triple-A

Bird was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Monday's game against the Angels. Bird was touched up for three runs on four hits over one inning Monday night, which marks the second time in his last four appearances that he's surrendered three runs. The Yankees have yet to announce a corresponding move but will likely bring up a fresh arm ahead of Tuesday's clash.

  • Yankees' Jake Bird: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Yankees optioned Bird to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Bird has yielded seven runs (six earned) over two innings in three appearances since being acquired by the Yankees at the trade deadline. He'll likely get another opportunity later this season, but Bird's struggles date back to mid-June, so he'll try to iron out his issues in the minors.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Heading back to minors

The Rockies optioned Bird to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. The transaction frees a roster spot for the return of Antonio Senzatela (elbow), who is back from the 60-day injured list to make his season debut Monday against the Diamondbacks. Bird holds a 4.95 ERA and ugly 28:25 K:BB over 36.1 frames with the big club in 2024.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Called up

The Rockies recalled Bird from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Bird will take Nick Mears' spot on the active roster Saturday after Mears was traded to Milwaukee for a pair of minor-league pitchers. Bird has appeared in 22 games for the Rockies this season, posting a 6.26 ERA and 16:18 K:BB across 23 innings.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies reinstated Bird (groin) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque. Bird has been on the injured list since June 26 due to a right groin strain. He's since thrown one rehab inning in Triple-A, surrendering three hits but allowing none to score, and he'll remain with the Isotopes now that he's fully recovered. The 28-year-old righty owns a 6.26 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 23 MLB innings, so he'll likely need to show consistent success in the minors before he's invited back into the Rockies' bullpen.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Cleared for rehab assignment

Bird (groin) was sent to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment. Bird has been out since late June with a groin strain, but he resumed throwing a few days ago and is now ready to test things out in a game setting. The reliever shouldn't need many rehab appearances since he hasn't missed much time, but with the All-Star break looming the Rockies could choose to hold him out until the second half.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Resumes throwing

Bird (groin) resumed throwing Friday, MLB.com reports. Bird had been shut down since June 23, with Friday marking his first known progress since being placed on the injured list. Manager Bud Black noted that Bird is close to returning to the mound, but he did not provide a timeline for Bird to be activated from the injured list.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Shut down with groin strain

The Rockies placed Bird on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right groin strain. Bird sustained the injury in his most recent relief appearance in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Nationals and won't be eligible to return from the IL until July 8. The right-hander had recently returned from a month-long stay on the shelf due to elbow inflammation and made just three appearances out of the Colorado bullpen before being shut down again with a new injury.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Throwing again at Triple-A

Bird (elbow) will make another rehab appearance at Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. After beginning his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League, Bird pitched a scoreless inning with Albuquerque on Thursday and will come out of the bullpen again Saturday. A return to the big-league roster seems imminent for Bird, who's eligible to return any time.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Begins rehab assignment

Bird (elbow) struck out two and allowed a solo home run in his first rehab appearance with the Rockies' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate on Monday. Bird has been shelved since mid-May with right elbow inflammation but is on the comeback trail. He'll likely move up to a higher affiliate eventually to continue his rehab assignment but should be ready to return from the 15-day injured list and take back a spot in the Colorado bullpen sooner rather than later.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Out with elbow inflammation

Bird was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. It's unclear when the injury first surfaced for Bird, but he struggled in his past three outings with six walks and four runs allowed. The 28-year-old will be eligible to return in early June, but a longer absence wouldn't be surprising given it's an elbow injury.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Saves possible this weekend

Bird could be in the mix for save opportunities this weekend in Pittsburgh after Colorado placed closer Justin Lawrence on the paternity list Friday. Bird has one save and two holds in 13 outings this season, though he has an unimpressive 5.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 8:7 K:BB over 14.2 innings. Nick Mears could also be an option, but neither pitcher offers much fantasy upside since Lawrence should be back in a few days, plus the Rockies have just three saves as a team this season.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Takes loss in extra innings

Bird (0-1) allowed one hit and one unearned run across two-thirds of an inning Monday against the Phillies. Bird entered the game after other high-leverage options in the Rockies bullpen, most notably Justin Lawrence. With a runner starting the frame on second base, Bird got two quick outs before allowing a single that plated the game-winning run. The Rockies have shuffled reliever roles to begin the season, but Bird still has the only save for the team. It's unclear if he is truly in the mix for saves, as he has allowed at least one earned run in three of his nine appearances and has a 1.66 WHIP with a 4:3 K:B across 9.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Tossed Sunday

Bird was ejected from Sunday's game against the Phillies, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Bird gestured toward the Philadelphia dugout after he finished off a scoreless seventh inning, which resulted in the benches clearing. The right-hander needed 20 pitches to get through the frame, so he was likely done for the day regardless. Bryce Harper was also ejected for the Phillies.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Recalled from Triple-A

The Rockies recalled Bird from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. He'll fill the Opening Day bullpen spot left vacant by Daniel Bard, who was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move as he battles anxiety. Bird, 27, struggled to a 4.91 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 47.2 innings out of the Colorado bullpen in 2022.

  • Rockies' Jake Bird: Tosses bullpen session

Bird (oblique) threw his first bullpen session of the spring Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Time appears tight for Bird to get ramped up by Opening Day, but he reportedly still has a chance. He recorded a 4.91 ERA in 47.2 innings of relief as a 26-year-old rookie last season.
