Bummer (2-2) picked up the win Thursday over the Nationals, striking out one in a perfect seventh inning.

The southpaw set down the bottom of Washington's order on 13 pitches (eight strikes), and Atlanta took its first lead of the game in the top of the eighth. Bummer isn't seeing the high-leverage work he grew accustomed to with the White Sox, and he's still looking for his first hold of the season. After a bumpy start to the campaign, he's been tagged for earned runs in only one of 10 appearances since the beginning of May, posting a 1.64 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB through 11 innings over that stretch.

Beeks picked up five outs for the Rockies in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals, striking out two while allowing no hits or walks between the eighth and ninth innings.

This was a major improvement on Beeks' outing Wednesday, in which he allowed five earned runs and blew the save in a loss to the Reds. The negative news for Beeks managers, however, is that the Rockies brought in Tyler Kinley to get the final out and record the save Thursday. Beeks does lead the Rockies with six saves, but the team's closing situation is as muddled as it has been at any point this season. Five different players have saves for a team that's won only 22 games all year.

Holmes earned a save against the Twins on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless inning.

Holmes gave up a one-out single after entering the game in the ninth frame, but that's all Minnesota managed against him. The talented closer has held opponents without an earned run in 27 of his 28 appearances this season, resulting in an excellent 1.32 ERA. Holmes ranks third in the majors with 18 saves (in 21 chances) on the campaign.

Gaddis (3-2) took the loss Thursday versus the Royals, allowing one run on two hits over one inning.

Gaddis gave up the go-ahead run on a Kyle Isbel single in the eighth inning. This ended Gaddis' scoreless streak at 13.1 innings and gave him his first loss since April 30. The right-hander has been excellent in a setup role this year with a 1.84 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 26:5 K:BB to go with 13 holds over 29.1 innings. As long as this setback doesn't become a slump, he should continue to help the Guardians hold leads in the late innings.

Long (1-1) allowed two walks and struck out one over one scoreless and hitless inning to earn the win Thursday over the Guardians.

Long took a loss in his previous outing, but he bounced back to get the win this time around. While he wasn't sharp with the two walks, he was able to keep runs off the board. Long hasn't been charged with an earned run yet, allowing two unearned tallies on one hit and three walks with six strikeouts over 6.1 innings this season. He's been pitching in close games recently, but he still sees most of his action in the middle innings, so it's unlikely he gets a look for save chances any time soon.

Iglesias pitched a perfect inning to earn a save against the Nationals on Thursday.

Iglesias made quick work of Washington in the ninth inning, needing just nine pitches to set the side down in order. The veteran closer has converted each of his past eight save chances, allowing three runs over 10 frames during that span. Iglesias hasn't been punching out batters at his usual rate this season -- he has just 16 strikeouts through 23.1 innings -- but he nonetheless is tied for fifth in the majors with 16 saves (in 18 chances).

Sewald walked one and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

Sewald has three saves over four outings in June and is up to seven saves in as many chances this season. The closer has maintained excellent ratios as well with a 0.87 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB over 10.1 innings. While the Diamondbacks have underwhelmed to limit Sewald's save chances, he's been nearly untouchable when called upon.

Kinley allowed a hit and struck out one batter in one-third of an inning to earn the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals.

Jalen Beeks entered the game in the eighth inning and got five outs, but Kinley was the one to get the last out for the save. This was Kinley's fourth scoreless outing in his last eight -- he's given up too many runs to be reliable on a regular basis, though he hasn't taken a blown save yet in 2024. The right-hander is at three saves and four holds with an 8.03 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 27:14 K:BB over 24.2 innings.

The Diamondbacks optioned Hughes to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Hughes has given up seven earned runs in 3.2 innings over his last two big-league outings, giving him a 10.13 ERA and 2.25 WHIP on the year. In an effort to get back on track, he'll head to Reno, where he owns a 1.83 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through 19.2 frames. Joe Jacques was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Walston was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to left elbow inflammation, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Walston was called up to make his first MLB start May 27 and made an additional start Tuesday. He didn't factor in the decision in either start, but he gave up just two earned runs in nine innings. He seemed likely to stick in the rotation prior to the injury. The Diamondbacks selected Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.
