Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Returns to Triple-A
The Dodgers optioned Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.
Hurt will head back to the minors after he was summoned from Oklahoma City to serve as the 27th man for the Dodgers' doubleheader with the Yankees on Sunday. The right-hander struck out a batter and allowed no hits and two walks over two scoreless innings out of the bullpen in the Dodgers' 2-1 loss in the second game of the day.

Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Acting as 27th man Sunday
The Dodgers recalled Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City to serve as their 27th man for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Yankees, Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Hurt could be called upon to cover an inning or two in relief while the Dodgers treat the final contest of the twin bill as a bullpen game. Over 32 appearances with Los Angeles this season, 28-year-old Hurt has posted a 4.88 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB in 31.1 innings.

Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Optioned to OKC
The Dodgers optioned Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.
After giving up six earned runs in just 3.2 innings since the beginning of July, Hurt will head back to the minors as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Landon Knack's (chest) return from the IL. Hurt's 3.55 FIP paints a more encouraging picture of how effective he's been out of the bullpen for the Dodgers this season, and he could return to Los Angeles later in the summer if he returns to form while in the minors.

Hurt will start a bullpen game for the Dodgers on Friday versus the Diamondbacks, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Hurt has plenty of past starting experience, but he's been a reliever almost exclusively since 2024 and hasn't recorded more than four outs in an appearance for the Dodgers in 2026. With no long relievers on their roster, the Dodgers will employ a true bullpen game after Shohei Ohtani (knee) was scratched from what was scheduled to be his final start before the All-Star break.

Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Recent struggles continue
Hurt (1-1) took the loss and was charged with a blown save Wednesday against Pittsburgh, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks over one-third of an inning.
Hurt was summoned to begin the eighth frame with the Dodgers up 6-4. He quickly gave up the lead by issuing two walks, which were followed by a Tyler Callihan three-run homer. Hurt then surrendered two more hits before being replaced by Jack Dreyer, and the only out Hurt recorded came when Jake Mangum was caught stealing. The poor outing was the continuation of a rough stretch for Hurt, who has given up eight earned runs over his past 3.1 frames spanning four appearances. Prior to that, the right-hander had been extremely effective, pitching to a 1.00 ERA and 0.78 WHIP with a 21:4 K:BB through his first 18 innings of the season.

Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Earns first big-league save
Hurt struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.
Tanner Scott was deployed in the eighth inning to handle a high-leverage spot, though that left the middle of the Rockies' order to Hurt in the ninth. Hurt did what he's been doing basically all year and delivered a quality outing, retiring the side on 15 pitches (11 strikes). He saw his scoreless streak end Monday when he served up a solo home run, but that was just the second run he's allowed all season. The right-handed reliever has worked his way into the late-inning mix with a 1.06 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB through 17 innings, and he's earned a save and three holds over his last eight outings. Hurt won't be the first choice for saves, but he's showing he can be trusted.

Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Extends scoreless streak
Hurt notched a hold against the Padres on Wednesday, allowing two hits and striking out one batter over one scoreless inning.
Hurt was deployed in a high-leverage situation, entering in the eighth frame with the Dodgers up 3-0. He allowed two singles (one of which was an infield hit) but managed to get out of the inning unscathed in the scoring column by inducing a double play. Hurt gave up a run in his first outing of the season (April 15 versus the Mets) but has since tossed 13 straight scoreless frames over 13 appearances, posting a dominant 0.69 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB during that span. Hurt didn't record a hold in any of his first nine outings but has two over six appearances since. Given how effective he's been, he may be looking at more frequent high-leverage work moving forward.

With a 12:2 K:BB and 1.09 WHIP over 7.1 innings across three Cactus League appearances, Hurt made a good case for winning a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, but the Dodgers' ample pitching depth along with the fact that he had two minor-league options remaining ended up working against the right-hander. Hurt has been deployed as a starter for much of his minor-league career, but he appears set to operate as a full-time reliever for Oklahoma City to begin the upcoming season.

Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Gearing up for bullpen role
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Hurt isn't considered a candidate for a rotation spot and is competing for a bullpen role on the team's Opening Day roster, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Hurt rose through the Dodgers farm system as a starter and looked to be making a case for a full-time appointment in the big-league rotation following a breakout 2023 campaign in which he amassed 155 strikeouts in 94 innings across three stops. However, after he required Tommy John surgery in July 2024, Hurt's trajectory appears to have changed. Though Hurt pitched effectively out of the Triple-A Oklahoma City bullpen late last season upon completing his recovery from surgery and benefited from a normal offseason, the Dodgers won't ask him to get stretched back out again in 2026. The Dodgers' ample depth is likely a major factor in the decision; even with Blake Snell (shoulder) and Gavin Stone (shoulder) expected to open the season on the shelf, the team still has plenty of appealing candidates (Emmet Sheehan, Justin Wrobleski, River Ryan, Ben Casparius and Landon Knack) to fill out the final two spots in the projected six-man rotation.

Hurt saw action at Triple-A Oklahoma City down the stretch of the regular season, and the fact that he's getting work ahead of Tuesday's Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series against Cincinnati may mean he's being considered for postseason play. Hurt (elbow) pitched a perfect inning in relief for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, finishing a seven-appearance minor-league rehab stint during which he posted a 1.93 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over 9.1 innings.
Hurt underwent Tommy John surgery last July, so his ability to get into more than a handful of contests at the end of this season is a big positive in itself. The right-hander fared pretty well overall during his rehab assignment, which has come to its conclusion with the end of the Triple-A campaign Sunday. At this point it's unclear if the Dodgers are considering activating Hurt for a final-week look in the big-league bullpen, though the team's relief corps has been pretty shaky of late, so such a decision isn't unfeasible.

Hurt has been on the injured list all season while working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He began throwing off a mound back in May and threw live batting practice to Dodgers hitters ahead of Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. Dodgers' Kyle Hurt: Progresses to bullpen sessions
Hurt (elbow) recently began throwing bullpen sessions at the Dodgers' complex in Arizona, MLB.com reports.
The progression to throwing bullpens represents a significant step for Hurt in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The procedure took place last July, so Hurt isn't certain to make it back to pitching in big-league games this season, a return from the 60-day injured list in September isn't out of the question.
