  • Nick Ramirez RP | LAD

Dodgers' Nick Ramirez: Designated for assignment

The Dodgers designated Ramirez for assignment Tuesday.

Just two days after being selected from Triple-A, Ramirez will once again be without a spot on the 40-man as Yoshinobu Yamamoto (triceps/shoulder) returns from the 60-day IL. The 35-year-old allowed three runs (one earned) over two innings during his appearance Monday and carries a 6.08 ERA through 13.1 MLB frames.

  • Phillies' Spencer Turnbull: Facing hitters Friday

Turnbull (lat) will throw a live batting practice session Friday, Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation reports.

Turnbull threw an up-and-down bullpen session Monday, clearing the way for him to face hitters for the first time since he was diagnosed with a right lat strain in late June. The Phillies aren't giving up hope that Turnbull could make it back later this month as a reliever, but he can't afford any hiccups.

  • Angels' Guillermo Zuniga: Back in majors

The Angels recalled Zuniga from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

The right-hander has had a couple short stints up with the Halos this season, and he'll rejoin the big club Tuesday after spending the past two-plus months at Triple-A. Zuniga has allowed five earned runs in seven frames in the majors this year and has a 5.19 ERA over 26 innings with Salt Lake.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Angels' Matt Moore: Moved to 60-day IL

The Angels transferred Moore (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Eric Wagaman. Moore's season is now officially over due to a left forearm strain which has kept him out since late August.

  • Ben Joyce RP | LAA

Angels' Ben Joyce: To IL with shoulder inflammation

The Angels placed Joyce on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Saturday, with right shoulder inflammation.

It's not clear how long Joyce's shoulder has been bothering him, but he hadn't pitched in a week. Hunter Strickland and/or Roansy Contreras are candidates to pick up save chances while Joyce is out, although manager Ron Washington might not settle on one guy.

  • Brady Basso RP | ATH

Athletics' Brady Basso: Recalled from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Basso was just sent down Sunday but is back to take the roster spot of the injured Osvaldo Bido (wrist). He could also take Bido's spot in the rotation with a start later this week. Basso went six shutout innings against the Tigers on Saturday in his first major-league start.

  • Brett de Geus RP | PHI

Marlins' Brett de Geus: Dumped from 40-man roster

The Marlins designated de Geus for assignment Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville in late August and has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. De Geus has made 11 appearances between the Marlins and Mariners this season and has given up five earned runs with a 6:2 K:BB over nine innings.

  • Marlins' Michael Petersen: Claimed by Miami

The Marlins claimed Petersen off waivers Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was designated for assignment by the Dodgers over the weekend, and he didn't make it through much of the waiver order before being claimed. Petersen posted a 6.43 ERA in 14 innings for the Dodgers this season, though he's been dominant at the Triple-A level with a 1.64 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 44:8 K:BB over 33 frames.

  • Bryan Mata RP | BOS

Red Sox's Bryan Mata: Ready to restart rehab assignment

Mata (lat/elbow) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

Mata has been on the injured list all season, initially due to a hamstring injury before he experienced shoulder and lat soreness in May during his initial rehab assignment. He resumed his rehab assignment in June, only to suffer another setback when he experienced inflammation in his elbow. After resuming his throwing program and completing a bullpen session at Fenway Park on Monday, Mata is ready to restart his rehab assignment for a third time. He'll likely require multiple appearances in the minors before making his return from the 60-day injured list and potentially making his MLB debut in late September.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Starting up rehab assignment

Funderburk (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday.

Funderburk is ready for his first game action since mid-July after an extended recovery from a left oblique strain. He'll likely require at least a couple outings in the minors before the Twins are comfortable bringing him back from the 60-day injured list.
