  • Ryder Ryan RP | LAD

Pirates' Ryder Ryan: Sent back down

The Pirates optioned Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Ryan had just been called up Tuesday and didn't make an appearance during his most recent stint with the big club. He was removed from the 26-man active roster to make room in the bullpen for right-hander Dennis Santana, who will be available for Thursday's game agains the Cardinals after being claimed off waivers from the Yankees earlier this week.

  • Kyle Finnegan RP | DET

Nationals' Kyle Finnegan: Secures 19th save

Finnegan gave up a solo home run and struck out one in the ninth inning Wednesday to record his 19th save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Tigers.

Riley Greene took Finnegan deep with one out to make things interesting, but the right-hander slammed the door shut from there. Finnegan has served up three homers in his last 10 appearances, a worrying trend, but those account for the only three earned runs he's allowed during that stretch. On the season, he sports a 1.91 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB through 28.1 innings.

  • Dodgers' Michael Grove: Opening Thursday's contest

Manager Dave Roberts said Grove will serve as the Dodgers' opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Grove made 18 starts with the Dodgers between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, but he's worked almost exclusively as a reliever in 2024. During his lone other start this season back on April 28 against the Blue Jays, Grove covered just two innings and gave up three earned runs before turning the game over to the bullpen. He'll be working Thursday on just one day of rest and is unlikely to cover more than 1-to-3 innings before he exits the contest.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Collects another win

Suarez (4-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the A's, giving up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning and striking out one.

For the second straight game, Suarez benefited from a Padres walk-off homer, with Wednesday's coming off the bat of Jackson Merrill. The right-hander has been tagged for a run in only one of his 26 appearances since the beginning of April, and on the season Suarez sports a sparkling 0.61 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB through 29.1 innings.

  • Logan Allen RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Logan Allen: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks outrighted Allen to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Allen was removed from Arizona's 40-man roster earlier this week, but he has since cleared waivers and will remain in the organization as pitching depth. The lefty has been used in long relief during his time with the Diamondbacks this season.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Records save No. 22

Helsley allowed one hit and struck out one batter over a scoreless inning to earn a save against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Helsley had a rough outing Tuesday against Pittsburgh, giving up two runs over one frame to take the loss. He was right back on the mound the next day and bounced back nicely, working around a leadoff single to finish off the victory. Helsley has converted 22 straight save chances since blowing a save in his first opportunity of the campaign, and the 22 saves overall leads all major-league pitchers.

  • Camilo Doval RP | NYY

Giants' Camilo Doval: Locks down 12th save

Doval earned the save Wednesday against the Astros, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Doval's held opponents scoreless in six of his last seven outings while improving to 12-for-14 in save opportunities this year. He lowered his ERA to 3.62 with a 1.54 WHIP and 35:19 K:BB across 27.1 innings.

  • Danny Young RP | ATL

Mets' Danny Young: Likely headed to Triple-A

The Mets are expected to option Young to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

With Edwin Diaz (shoulder) slated to come off the injured list Thursday, Young will be pushed back to Triple-A in order to free up a roster spot. He's found quite a bit of success in the majors this season, allowing just one run in nine innings while striking out 12 batters and walking four. If he's able to sustain his strong performance in Triple-A, the 30-year-old southpaw would likely be one of the first choices to return to New York if the Mets find themselves in need of a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Earns 14th save

Diaz earned a save against Cleveland on Wednesday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Entering with a 4-2 lead in the ninth inning, Diaz needed just 13 pitches to retire the Guardians in order. Since May 21, Diaz is 7-for-7 in save chances with only two runs allowed over 10 appearances. On the season, Diaz is 14-for-16 in save chances with a 5.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 27:18 K:BB in 25.1 innings.

  • Tyson Miller RP | CHW

Cubs' Tyson Miller: Earns first win

Miller (1-0) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts to earn the win in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Rays.

Miller came over to Chicago via a trade from Seattle on May 13, and while he's been effective across nine appearances with the Cubs, this was his first win with his new team. The righty now has a 2.01 ERA for the season, which includes a stellar 0.84 ERA over 10.2 innings with Chicago. Miller has limited fantasy upside as a middle reliever, though he's been excellent in his role.
