Gomez picked up his second save in as many days by retiring the Mets in the ninth on Sunday. He allowed a hit and struck out a batter.

Often when a team says that they are going to use a committee, that remains true just as long until someone establishes himself as a reliable alternative. Gomez has converted his first two chances, whereas most of the bullpen has struggled this week, so Gomez could see the next few chances. He's been competent but not exactly dominant the last two seasons while pitching in relief, so he doesn't fit the mold of a prototypical closer.

Edgin was scheduled to begin his rehab assignment at High-A St. Lucie on Sunday, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin reports.

Edgin, who is recovering from March 2015 Tommy John surgery, will likely face a limited pitch count in his first appearance with St. Lucie. The reliever is expected to climb to several different levels of the farm system over the next couple of weeks while showing that he's fully healthy after the year-long absence. The Mets are hoping to activate Edgin from the 15-day DL in early May and use him out of the bullpen.

Pomeranz (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings, and earned the win Saturday at the Rockies.

Pomeranz overcame Coors Field and gave up his only runs after being staked to a 7-0 lead. He left the contest after throwing only 81 pitches, and the bullpen easily held on to a 16-3 victory. He's looking to bounce back from a down season in 2015 in which he posted a 3.66 ERA with the Athletics. He'll make his next start Thursday at the Phillies.

Gomez picked up a save Saturday with a 1-2-3 ninth inning against the Mets.

Gomez needed just six pitches to get the save, the second of his career. He isn't your prototypical closer, but he should continue to see save chances if he keeps converting his opportunities.

Jensen earned his second save of the season in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Giants by pitching a scoreless 10th inning and striking out a batter.

After the Dodgers took the lead in the top half of the frame, Jensen needed only 17 pitches, 12 of which he threw for strikes, to notch his second save in as many opportunities. The 28-year-old has already notched three whiffs in two innings of work, and figures to generate many similar box score lines over the course of the season.

De La Rosa logged an inning out of the bullpen Saturday, tossing a perfect frame with two strikeouts against the Cubs, but he is still in line to make his start Wednesday against the Dodgers, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Manager Chip Hale said he wanted to lighten the load on the bullpen Saturday, so De La Rosa got his normal throwing regimen in an actual game instead of on the side. This is an interesting tactic, to say the least, and it probably won't happen very often going forward. Of course, given his stuff, it wasn't surprising to see De La Rosa thrive in a short burst Saturday.

Strop was charged with a blown save Friday against the Diamondbacks after giving up a run on two hits in one inning pitched.

Prior to Friday's matchup with Arizona, Strop had been pitching very well, recording four strikeouts over 2.1 prefect innings pitched. Manager Joe Maddon decided to let him pitch to Paul Goldschmidt in the eighth inning with the tying run on second base, and it backfired, as Goldschmidt singled to tie up the game. Despite the blown save, Strop still should see plenty of high-leverage situations while acting as the top setup man in the Cubs bullpen.

Hoover (0-1) blew a save opportunity by giving up a game-winning grand slam in 0.1 innings in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Pirates. He was charged with only earned run.

The new Reds closer gave up a second-inning blast to Starling Marte with the bags jammed with Pirates, blowing his first save opportunity of the season. The performance was in sharp contrast to his initial appearance, a perfect 1-2-3 inning against the Phillies on Monday. Despite the struggles Friday, Hoover figures to be given every opportunity to close out the majority of games for the Reds this season.

Melancon retired the Reds in order for his second save in as many games Friday.

The Pirates closer has pitched in all four of Pittsburgh's games, but the team has enjoyed two off-days sandwiched between the contests. Melancon has struck out only one batter in 3.1 innings, but he has yet to issue a walk. The closer is off to a typically strong start with his free agency looming at the end of 2016.

Mazzaro threw 1.1 innings Thursday, striking out one and allowing no runs in Triple-A Sacramento's game against Salt Lake.

Mazzaro had a rocky spring training, allowing four earned runs and 11 hits in 5.0 innings of work. He isn't currently on the Giants' 40-man roster, but has bounced between the minors and majors for the last few years with moderate success, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he found his way there again this season.
