  • Mark Leiter RP | ATH

Phillies' Mark Leiter: Sent to minors

Leiter was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

Leiter appeared in six games out of the bullpen during his latest big-league stint, allowing three runs while striking out three over 5.2 innings. Philadelphia will make a corresponding move ahead of Monday's series opener against the Dodgers.

  • Andrew Chafin RP | CIN

Diamondbacks' Andrew Chafin: Lowers ERA to 1.51

Chafin retired two of the three batters he faced in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Rockies.

Chafin allowed a leadoff single to Charlie Blackmon in the top of the ninth inning, then induced a double-play ball before giving way to Silvino Bracho, who got Nolan Arenado to ground out to end the game. Manager Torey Lovullo typically limits Chafin's usage to lefty-on-lefty matchups, which has helped the 28-year-old attain a bullpen-best 1.51 ERA this season.

  • Adonis Medina RP | SEA

Phillies' Adonis Medina: Ties career best with 12 strikeouts

Medina tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out 12 for High-A Clearwater in its 2-1 win over Florida on Saturday. He gave up two base hits and issued no walks in the 90-pitch outing.

Believed to be one of the main prospects the Phillies made available to the Orioles in a potential Manny Machado trade, Medina ultimately remained with Philadelphia when Baltimore shipped its star shortstop to Los Angeles after the All-Star Game. Medina's outing Saturday at least demonstrated why he was a worthy centerpiece in a trade for one of baseball's top stars, as he displayed impeccable command with all three of his pitches while tying his career high in strikeouts. The 20-year-old retired the final 17 batters he faced en route to lowering his ERA to 4.48 over 78.1 innings in the Florida State League.

  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: May return from DL in relief role

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Miller (elbow) could rejoin the big club in a relief role if and when he's ready to return from the 10-day disabled list, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona reports.

Miller returned from a nearly 14-month-long layoff from Tommy John surgery and rejoined the Diamondbacks in late June, making just four turns through the rotation before being shut down with elbow inflammation. Arizona will re-evaluate Miller by the end of the month before determining his next step, but given that the 27-year-old has already experienced a setback with his surgically repaired elbow, the club could be inclined to take a prudent approach with him once he's cleared to resume throwing. Using Miller out of the bullpen would be a way for the Diamondbacks to both limit the strain on his elbow and enhance his effectiveness, as his results through four starts (11.40 ERA, 2.07 WHIP in 15 innings) simply didn't cut it.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Likely headed to DL

Manager Craig Counsell expects Suter to land on the 10-day disabled list after suffering a left forearm strain Sunday against the Dodgers, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Suter will undergo an MRI sometime in the near future to determine the extend of the injury, but he'll likely require a stint on the disabled list. He suffered the same injury earlier in the year, although he managed to return after missing just one outing.

  • Cardinals' Daniel Poncedeleon: Making MLB debut Monday

Poncedeleon will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis to start Monday's game against the Reds, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Just 14 months after suffering a life-threatening brain injury when he was struck by a line drive in an outing for the Triple-A club, Poncedeleon has returned to the mound and established himself as one of the top arms in the International League. The 26-year-old, who posted a 2.15 ERA and 103:48 K:BB in 92 innings with Memphis, will now join the Cardinals to make his MLB debut with the team in need of a sixth starter. With the Cardinals optioning the struggling Luke Weaver down to Triple-A on Sunday, Poncedeleon could stick in the rotation for additional starts if he impresses in his first trial in the big leagues.

  • Luis Garcia RP | MIN

Phillies' Luis Garcia: Back from DL

Garcia (wrist) was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list Sunday.

Garcia will be good to go for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader after being on the shelf since July 12 and missing just the minimum amount of time. He typically pitches in low-leverage situations but could be called upon in a short-handed bullpen if starter Vince Velasquez is unable to provide a deep outing.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Diagnosed with forearm tightness

Suter was forced to exit Sunday's game due to left forearm tightness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

This at least partially explains why Suter had a difficult time commanding his fastball in Sunday's start but it is still a concerning bit of news for the Brewers. It's the same injury that caused a disabled list stint just a few weeks ago, and the left-hander was thought to be in the clear following his activation. At this time, it's unclear if Suter will require another DL stint, but he's looking shaky for Friday's start.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Early exit Sunday

Suter exited after three innings in Sunday's matchup against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Suter appeared to be in noticeable discomfort after retiring the final batter in the third inning and ended up going back to the clubhouse before eventually being relieved by Taylor Williams. It had not been a good outing for Suter prior to the exit, as he allowed six earned runs on eight hits, including two Matt Kemp home runs. This was just Suter's second start since coming off the disabled list due to forearm troubles, though it remains to be seen if that's the issue that has resurfaced. Consider Suter day-to-day in advance of his next start, which is scheduled for Friday against the Giants.

  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Cubs' Justin Wilson: Takes loss in nightcap

Wilson (3-3) was tagged with the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Cardinals. He allowed two earned runs on two walks and did not retire a batter.

Wilson came on to start the ninth inning with the game tied 3-3. He can be forgiven for walking the red-hot Matt Carpenter, but the lefty then walked Harrison Bader before getting the hook. The runs would come around to score, saddling Wilson with the loss. Despite the hiccup, the 30-year-old still has a solid 3.18 ERA this season, which is a vast improvement over the 5.09 mark he posted in 23 games with the Cubs last year following a July trade.
