Cubs' Jesse Chavez: Takes loss Thursday

Chavez (3-2) took his first loss in a Cubs uniform Thursday against the Padres, as he allowed two earned runs while retiring two batters.

Chavez relieved Chicago starter Mike Montgomery with one on and one out in the top of the sixth inning, and proceeded to allow a single followed by a decisive three-run home run that put the Padres up 3-1. This was the veteran righty's first misstep with the Cubs, as he entered the night having recorded nine scoreless innings over his first six appearances with his new team. Chavez still holds a solid 3.27 ERA and should remain a trusted option in the Chicago bullpen.

  • A.J. Minter RP | MIN

Braves' A.J. Minter: Earns seventh save

Minter picked up his seventh save Thursday, striking out two and issuing one walk in the 4-2 win over the Mets.

Minter is now a perfect 7-for-7 in save opportunities this season, earning his fifth save since the start of July. His ERA dropped to a 2.91 alongside a 51:16 K:BB for the 2018 season. With Arodys Vizcaino still on the disabled list, Minter should continue seeing the bulk of the save chances in Atlanta.

  • Silvino Bracho RP | CIN

Diamondbacks' Silvino Bracho: Optioned to Reno

Bracho was sent back down to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Bracho was moved off the active roster in order to make room for Brad Ziegler. Through 18 appearances with the Diamondbacks this year, Bracho has logged an impressive 2.04 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with an 11.7 K/9. Look for him to return to the majors when replenishments in the bullpen are needed.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | MIL

Braves' Bryse Wilson: Moves up to Triple-A

Wilson was promoted from Double-A Mississippi to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.

Wilson was one of several top prospects in the organization promoted this week, with fellow starting pitcher Kyle Wright also joining him in Gwinnett. It's the second move of the season for Wilson, who made a brief stop at High-A Florida to open the campaign before posting a 3.97 ERA and 89:26 K:BB in 77 innings in the Southern League.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Cardinals' Dominic Leone: Succesful in first rehab outing

Leone (biceps) fired a scoreless seventh inning in Triple-A Memphis' loss to Sacramento on Wednesday. He allowed one hit and recorded two strikeouts.

Leone looked good in his first game action since May 4, getting through his sole frame by getting 15 of 19 pitches into the strike zone. The right-handed reliever is slated to make multiple appearances at the minor-league level as he builds his arm strength back up after a long layoff brought about by nerve damage.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Undergoes successful Tommy John surgery

Suter (elbow) had Tommy John surgery in Cincinnati on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Suter will spend the next few weeks at his home in Cincinnati prior to returning with the team. He's expected to miss most if not all of the 2019 campaign rehabbing from surgery.

  • Chris Rusin RP | COL

Rockies' Chris Rusin: Nearing rehab assignment

Rusin (heel) tossed live batting practice Wednesday without any issue, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Rusin was placed on the 10-day disabled list July 24 due to plantar fasciitis. Following his latest throwing session, he said his foot feels good, and if he can get through Thursday without any soreness, he'll embark on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque by the end of the week.

  • Dodgers' Ariel Hernandez: Designated for assignment

Hernandez was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.

Hernandez was removed from the 40-man roster after the Dodgers made a couple moves prior to Tuesday's trade deadline. Across 25.1 innings of relief with Triple-A Oklahoma City this year, Hernandez logged a 3.20 ERA and 1.67 WHIP. He hasn't pitched in any games for the Dodgers and only holds 19 major-league appearances to his name, all coming with the Reds in 2017.

  • Jimmy Cordero RP | NYY

Nationals' Jimmy Cordero: Called up to big leagues

Cordero's contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

He will assume the 40-man and active roster spots of fellow reliever Shawn Kelley, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The 26-year-old Cordero, who has yet to make his MLB debut, posted a 1.67 ERA and 47 strikeouts across 43 innings at Syracuse this season.

  • Phillies' Seranthony Dominguez: Strikes out two en route to 11th save

Dominguez worked around a walk with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless inning of work for his 11th save of the season Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Dominguez's outing wasn't quite as smooth as it might appear. He walked the leadoff man before hitting the next batter to put the tying run on base, but he was able to retire the next three to close out the victory. Dominguez has been quite effective of late, yielding earned runs just once in his last 10 outings to lower his ERA to 1.91 to go along with a terrific 0.80 WHIP. Multiple other Phillies relievers recorded saves in the month of July, but Dominguez leads the team with 11 and has been the most effective of the bunch.
