  • Will Smith RP | KC

Giants' Will Smith: Secures sixth save

Smith had one strikeout and allowed one hit Tuesday against the Padres during a scoreless 10th inning to record the save.

Smith continued his stellar season with the only blemish Tuesday being a two-out single allowed to Manuel Margot. The 29-year-old has a 1.31 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 48:7 K:BB over 34.1 innings on the season.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Cardinals' Dominic Leone: Rehab assignment set

Leone (biceps) will head out on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

The news comes on the heels of a second successful bullpen session for Leone on Sunday. The length of Leone's rehab stint hasn't yet been determined, but considering he's been out of action for almost three months, he's likely slated for more than just a pair of appearances.

  • Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Seven strong innings Tuesday

Rodriguez allowed one run on three hits and three walks during Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Padres. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.

Rodriguez gave up the run on two hits during the first inning but otherwise shut down San Diego. The 26-year-old has allowed only seven runs and 26 hits over his last 42.1 innings (seven appearances), and is next scheduled to start Monday against the Astros.

  • Jimmy Nelson RP | LAD

Brewers' Jimmy Nelson: Cleared to throw breaking balls

Nelson (shoulder) was cleared to begin throwing breaking balls and had a mound session prior to Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Nelson is currently working his way through the throwing program but isn't expected to return prior to September. Progress has been slow for the 29-year-old, and he will need significant mound work in order to build up his stamina enough to be a viable option for the Brewers this season.

  • John Axford RP | MIL

Dodgers' John Axford: Will join team Friday

Axford won't join the Dodgers until Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Axford was traded from Toronto to Los Angeles on Tuesday but won't be activated with his new team until this weekend's series against the Astros. The 35-year-old should serve as a middle reliever for the Dodgers, but could see occasional setup work given the numerous injuries within the bullpen.

  • Wander Suero RP | ATH

Nationals' Wander Suero: Back in majors

Suero was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

He has been back and forth between Triple-A and the big leagues this season, and will take the spot of Brandon Kintzler, who was traded to the Cubs. Suero has a 3.15 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 20 innings in the majors this season.

  • Jarlin Garcia RP | PIT

Marlins' Jarlin Garcia: Called up from New Orleans

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.

Garcia has appeared in 12 games (six starts) for the Marlins this year, logging a 4.41 ERA and 1.22 WHIP to go along with a pedestrian 32:21 K:BB across 51 innings. It's unclear as to whether he will get another crack in the rotation in the near future. It look like he's set to join Miami's bullpen initially upon arrival.

  • Silvino Bracho RP | CIN

Diamondbacks' Silvino Bracho: Back in majors

Bracho was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Andrew Chafin was placed on the paternity list, so Bracho will return to the big-league club to take his place in the short term. He has been back and forth between the majors and Triple-A this season, sporting a 2.04 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 17.2 innings in the big leagues.

  • Andrew Chafin RP | CIN

Diamondbacks' Andrew Chafin: Lands on paternity list

Chafin was placed on the paternity list Tuesday.

He must miss one game and may not miss more than three games, so he will return to the Diamondbacks' bullpen later this week. Silvino Bracho was recalled from Triple-A to take his spot in the bullpen.

  • Jake Diekman RP | ATL

Diamondbacks' Jake Diekman: Traded to Arizona

Diekman was traded from the Rangers to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday in exchange for Wei-Chieh Huang and a player to be named later, Robert Murray of The Athletic reports.

There was a chance that if Diekman hadn't been traded, he would have competed for saves down the stretch in Texas, but that is now out the window. Brad Boxberger is the established closer in Arizona, and Archie Bradley and Yoshihisa Hirano are also likely ahead of Diekman on the depth chart. The hard-throwing lefty has a 3.69 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 48:23 K:BB in 39 innings this season.
