Cabrera is expected to remain in the Cardinals' rotation, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The Cardinals have yet to officially announce their pitching plans beyond this weekend. However, it sounds like Cabrera will remain in the mix for the time being after debuting against the Phillies earlier in the week, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings while striking out five. That said, with Alex Reyes stretching out in the minors, Cabrera may only be given a few more opportunities to prove he deserves to remain in the rotation long-term.

The Giants optioned Jerez to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

He'll surrender his spot on the active roster to Tyler Beede, who was recalled from Triple-A ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Marlins. Jerez's stay with the big club lasted just one day and didn't include a relief appearance.

The Giants recalled Beede from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of his scheduled start Thursday against the Marlins, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

He'll fill the fifth spot in the rotation that opened up when Andrew Suarez was demoted to Triple-A last weekend. Beede has yet to find much success in his five career appearances (three starts) in the big leagues, surrendering 18 runs (17 earned) on 23 hits and 16 walks in 14.1 innings. He at least gets a soft landing spot in his return to the big club with a matchup against Miami and its league-worst offense (71 wRC+).

The Reds optioned Sims to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Due to a doubleheader Monday, the Reds required a temporary sixth starter this week, with Sims getting the call from Louisville to fill the void. Though he was charged with four earned runs in his Reds debut Tuesday against the Pirates, Sims was impressive on the whole, working 7.1 innings and allowing only seven baserunners while generating nine strikeouts on 19 swinging strikes. Since the rotation has been a surprising strength for Cincinnati this season, Sims won't be given the chance to stick with the big club, but he's certainly put himself at the top of the list for a promotion the next time a starting pitcher is needed.

The Marlins optioned Hernandez to Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

After dazzling over eight starts with New Orleans (1.07 ERA, 61:14 K:BB in 42 innings), Hernandez was rewarded with a promotion to the big leagues earlier this week. With no spots available in the Miami rotation, however, Hernandez had to settle for a long-relief role. He didn't impress in his lone appearance out of the bullpen Tuesday against the Giants, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk over two frames. He'll now head back to New Orleans to continue his development as a starter while Jeff Brigham moves up from Triple-A to take his spot in the bullpen.

The Marlins recalled Brigham from Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

In a corresponding move, Miami demoted Elieser Hernandez, who may not have been available for Thursday's series finale with the Giants after covering two innings (38 pitches) in relief two days earlier. Brigham will thus provide the Marlins with a fresh arm in long relief after shining out of the New Orleans bullpen. Over his 11 appearances at Triple-A spanning 16 innings, Brigham has posted a 1.13 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB.

Diaz (1-3) took a blown save and loss Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk while recording just one out.

Diaz failed to protect an 8-5 lead in the ninth as he collapsed into an absolute meltdown. The damage began right away when he allowed back-to-back homers to Joc Pederson and Max Muncy. Cody Bellinger then swatted an RBI double that brought the Dodgers down one, 8-7. The final leg of the rally came with the bases loaded as Alex Verdugo walked it off with a sacrifice fly to left field that sent the winning run home. The awful outing can probably be chalked up as a fluke, since Diaz has been relatively solid all season. In all, the right-hander holds a 3.22 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 13 saves.

Hoffman (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six through five innings of work.

The win was Hoffman's first since 2017. The 26-year-old has failed to make a major impact since then, spending most of his time in the minors. Hoffman got the call up again May 24 and had some trouble with location in his last outing, but managed to turn things around Wednesday with pivotal strikeouts to work his way out of jams. Despite the improvement, Hoffman's ERA still sits at an ugly 7.20 with a 1.60 WHIP through three starts. His status in the rotation is uncertain, but with Kyle Freeland and Antonio Senzatela struggling, Hoffman has a shot to make another start again soon.

Cabrera (0-1) took the loss in his major-league debut Wednesday at Philadelphia by giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits over 3.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Cabrera ran into trouble immediately as he issued a four-pitch walk to start the game, helping lead to a two-run first inning for the Phillies (though both runs were unearned due to an error). The 22-year-old lasted only 53 pitches and left with a runner on base -- that runner came around to score after Cabrera exited during the fourth inning. It's not clear whether the Cardinals plan to give Cabrera another look look in the rotation, as they could potentially go without a fifth starter until late next week due to Monday's off day.

Reyes could make his next start for Triple-A Memphis, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.

Reyes has looked sharp in a pair of starts for High-A Palm Beach, compiling a 1.93 ERA and 11:3 K:BB in 9.1 innings. Assuming he checks out OK after throwing 77 pitches in Tuesday's outing for Palm Beach, Reyes could be cleared to join the Redbirds for his next start.
