Yamamoto allowed two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.1 innings against the Marlins on Saturday.

Yamamoto made his first start since Aug. 24. Though he allowed nine baserunners, he only gave up two extra-base hits, both of which were doubles. That's notable progress for Yamamoto, as he had allowed a home run in seven consecutive starts prior to hitting the injured list. It's unclear how the Marlins plan to deploy him to close the season, though he's currently projected to start Thursday against the Mets.

Kimbrel (0-4) allowed two runs on two hits -- both home runs -- with one walk and two strikeouts to blow his third save in a 9-8 loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

Kimbrel came in to protect an 8-7 lead and after two pitches the Cubs trailed 9-8. First, Yadier Molina homered to left center and on the next pitch Paul DeJong crushed a ball 440 feet to center field to put the Cardinals in front. In the two games since his activation on Sept. 19, Kimbrel has allowed three homers and accumulated two losses. For the season, Kimbrel is 13-for-16 in save chances with a 6.53 ERA, a 1.60 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.

Hudson permitted three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two over three innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.

Hudson ran into trouble right away, allowing three first-inning runs on two bases-loaded walks and a sacrifice fly. The 25-year-old then steadied and kept the Cubs off the board in the second and third innings before being removed for a pinch hitter after 62 pitches. Hudson still has a solid 3.45 ERA and 126 strikeouts through 31 starts and the right-hander is scheduled to make his next start Friday at home against these same Cubs.

Kelly is a dealing with a lower-body issue that will limit his usage until the postseason, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Kelly had been dealing with a leg injury earlier in September, but it's unclear if his new issue is related, though he's appeared in only one contest since Sept. 15 and pitched one-third of an inning. However, it doesn't sound as if Kelly is entirely unavailable, so he should take the mound on at least a couple occasions prior to the close of the regular season.

Reyes has allowed one earned run and struck out 11 batters in 6.1 innings since being called up Sept. 3.

Reyes' recent success is in stark contrast to his previous five stints in the majors this season, during which he accumulated an 11.25 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over 16 innings. Although the sample size is small, Reyes' progress can be tied to a drastic improvement in control; whereas he walked 11 batters in his previous 18 outings, he has yet to issue a free pass in September. The 26-year-old's strong month could open the door for a chance to earn a season-long bullpen spot with the big club next year if he throws well in spring training.

Stephenson was sent home Saturday with flu-like symptoms, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The bug has been making its rounds in the Reds' clubhouse since their series in Seattle. Stephenson was one of five players sent home. It's hard to imagine we see Stephenson again before Tuesday.

Yamamoto (forearm) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list to start Saturday against the Nationals.

At one point, Yamamoto's chances of returning this season were considered slim, but he made it through an instructional league outing Monday and received clearance to toe the rubber Saturday opposite Stephen Strasburg. Yamamoto got off to a great start with the Marlins, but things unraveled in a hurry, with the righty struggling to an 8.13 ERA over seven starts before landing on the IL. He projects for another start next week, on the road against the Mets.

Hernandez won't make his scheduled start Saturday against the Nationals with the Marlins bringing back Jordan Yamamoto (forearm) from the 10-day injured list and inserting him into the rotation.

Yamamoto has been on the shelf for nearly a month with a right forearm strain and didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, so it's possible Hernandez ends up seeing work in long relief if Yamamoto's pitch count is restricted. Miami hasn't announced its probable starters beyond Sunday's series finale, making it uncertain whether Hernandez will slot back into the rotation at any point during the last week of the season.

The Marlins plan to activate Yamamoto (forearm) from the 10-day injured list to start Saturday's game against the Nationals.

Yamamoto has been on the shelf for just under a month with a right forearm strain and didn't have a proper rehab assignment before being activated, so he'll likely be on some sort of workload restriction in his return to the active roster. The Marlins bumped Elieser Hernandez off his scheduled start to clear room in the rotation for Yamamoto.

Beede (5-10) took the loss Friday, surrendering six runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings while striking out five as the Giants fell 6-0 to Atlanta.

The right-hander was taken deep by Ronald Acuna in the fifth inning and Brian McCann in the sixth to put the game out of reach, although Beede had no margin for error with the Giants only scratching out four hits on the night. He'll make one more start in 2019, carrying a 5.23 ERA and 106:46 K:BB through 113.2 innings into Thursday's home outing against the Rockies.
