Hader hit a batter and struck out one in one inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Tigers.

Hader plunked Jorge Bonifacio to start the ninth inning, but retired the next three batters on nine pitches to get the save. Hader hasn't allowed a hit in 12 appearances, an MLB record to start a season, but he has issued 10 walks in 11.2 innings. The 26-year-old has nine saves, 18 strikeouts and a 1.54 ERA this season.

Melancon did not allow a baserunner and struck out all three batters he faced to earn the save Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Melancon was called upon to protect a two-run lead and did so in dominant fashion to grab his eighth save of the season. He needed only 14 pitches to strike out the side and has now put together three consecutive scoreless outings. Melancon has a solid 2.63 ERA with nine strikeouts and four walks across 13.2 innings and has a firm grip on the closer role in Atlanta.

Kelly (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined since Aug. 10 with right shoulder inflammation, but he appears to be nearing his return. Manager Dave Roberts said Kelly could be return from the injured list late next week, but he'll still need to serve a five-game suspension once activated.

Bednar was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday.

The 25-year-old has been recalled and optioned numerous times throughout the season, and he'll return to the alternate training site after spending the past couple days in the majors. Bednar has surrendered five runs on 11 hits with a 5:2 K:BB over 6.1 innings this season.

Pagan was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right biceps inflammation, retroactive to Aug. 31.

The right-hander last pitched Sunday and delivered a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, and it's unclear when or how he sustained the injury. Pagan will be eligible to be activated Sept. 10, but he may require additional time before rejoining the team.

Adam was recalled from the alternate training site Wednesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Adam made his team debut with the Cubs in August and allowed three runs on five hits with a 9:2 K:BB over 3.2 innings, and he's back with the club for another stint in the majors. Jose Quintana (lat) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Fulmer was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Wednesday.

Fulmer finds himself designated for the third time this season, as he was waived by the White Sox after failing to make their Opening Day roster and subsequently claimed and cut by the Tigers less than a month later. The Pirates claimed him in late August, but he didn't wind up making a single appearance for the team. The move creates a spot on the active roster for Joe Musgrove (triceps) to return from the injured list.

Hernandez (lat) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hernandez left his start Tuesday against Toronto with what was originally called right lat soreness, but the diagnosis has been updated to a strain. His expected return date is not yet clear, but he'll miss at least one turn in the rotation, as he won't be eligible to be activated until Sept. 12. The Marlins are expected to activate Jose Urena from the COVID-19 injured list next week when a new fifth starter is needed, but utility man Eddy Alvarez was recalled in a corresponding move Wednesday.

The Mets activated Castro (illness) ahead of Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The Mets sent Franklyn Kilome back to the alternate site to make room on the 28-man roster for Castro, who will be available out of the bullpen for the Mets' series finale with his former team. Before Baltimore traded him to New York on Monday, Castro had missed a couple of days with a sinus infection, but the Mets' decision to activate hm suggests he's moved past the illness.

Manager Luis Rojas said Gsellman will start Thursday's game against the Yankees, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

David Peterson would have been available to start Thursday on five days' rest, but Rojas said the rookie would move to the bullpen for at least the next few days, allowing Gsellman to receive another turn through the rotation. In order to ensure his starting role becomes a permanent one, Gsellman will need to post a solid outing against the Yankees.
