Betances (lat) could be activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday or Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Betances has been on the injured list for just over three weeks with right lat tightness, but he's being evaluated by the Mets' training staff Wednesday. If all goes well in his evaluation, he could be available out of the bullpen for the end of the regular season.

The Nationals recalled Crowe from their alternate training site Wednesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

Crowe was optioned to the alternate site following the conclusion of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Phillies, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club a day later after the Nationals placed third baseman Carter Kieboom (wrist) on the 10-day injured list. The right-hander is expected to serve as a long-relief option for Washington over the final five games of the regular season.

Williams struck out five of the seven batters he faced over two scoreless frames en route to picking up his ninth hold of the season Tuesday in the Brewers' 3-2 win over the Reds.

Aside from walking Jesse Winker to begin the bottom of the seventh, Williams was otherwise electric as usual, inducing eight swings and misses among his 31 pitches. Williams hasn't allowed a run since his second appearance of the season back on July 27, compiling a 48:7 K:BB to go with an 0.49 WHIP in 22.2 innings over his last 19 outings.

Wilson (1-0) threw five scoreless innings on Tuesday, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out seven in an 11-1 win over the Marlins.

Making just his fifth appearance and his first start of the season, Wilson threw 50 of 77 pitches for strikes. It was his first outing without giving up a run in 2020. The 22-year-old is a fringe top-five prospect for the Braves and is still just 22 years old. He will have a chance to compete for a rotation spot in 2021. Wilson may draw the start Sunday against the Red Sox.

Ferguson underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday morning, he reported on his personal Instagram account.

Ferguson was diagnosed with damage to the UCL in his left elbow last week, rendering the surgery a necessity. He is expected to return to the mound during the 2022 season.

Diaz worked around a base hit to turn in a scoreless ninth inning en route to notching his fifth save of the season Tuesday in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Rays.

Diaz also struck out a batter in the 16-pitch outing, his 10th straight scoreless appearance. During that span, Diaz has compiled an eye-popping 20 strikeouts in 11 innings while allowing four hits and six walks. Manager Luis Rojas hasn't formally appointed a new closer since Seth Lugo joined the rotation in mid-August, but Diaz's usage (and success) in recent weeks suggests he's recaptured the job.

Wilson was summoned from the bullpen after starter Seth Lugo departed in the seventh inning with one out and runners on first and second. After a successful double steal by the Rays put two runners in scoring position, Wilson induced a groundball to record the second out of the inning. He then allowed the Rays to cut their deficit to one run on a wild pitch, but he buckled down and struck out Hunter Renfroe to end the threat. Wilson now has nine holds on the season to go with a 3.86 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 22 appearances.

The Nationals optioned Crowe to their alternate training site Wednesday.

Washington brought Crowe up from the alternate site to serve as its 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Phillies, but he wasn't needed out of the bullpen in either game. Unless the Nationals place another player on the injured list before their season finale Sunday, Crowe won't return to the big club and will finish the 2020 campaign with an 11.88 ERA and 2.64 WHIP over 8.1 innings.

Coonrod earned the save against Colorado on Tuesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning and striking out two.

Coonrod was called upon to protect a three-run lead and succeeded with ease, throwing 10 of his 12 pitches for strikes and punching out a pair. The right-hander has now struck out nine batters over his last six innings and appears to be a trusted ninth-inning option for a team without an established closer. His three saves this season rank second on the squad to the four collected by the injured Trevor Gott (elbow).

Lamet will start one of the games during Friday's doubleheader against the Giants, Bernie Wilson of The Associated Press reports.

The 28-year-old previously lined up to start Saturday's contest, but he'll be pushed up a day and make his final start of the regular season during the twin bill. The move better situates Lamet to start early in the playoffs for the Padres.
