Pirates' Max Kranick: Perfect in MLB debut

Kranick (1-0) earned the win in his big-league debut Sunday against the Cardinals after tossing five perfect innings, striking out three.

Kranick was perfect in his MLB debut, tossing 36 of his 50 pitches for strikes with no hits or walks while looking absolutely in control of the mound en route to an excellent performance. It's only one start and it's still way too early to make assumptions, but there's no question this was an excellent outing for the 23-year-old right-hander. He might have done enough to earn at least another start at some point next week, though his immediate future remains unclear.

  • Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM

Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Roughed up in short outing

Alzolay (4-7) allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out three across three innings, taking the loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.

Alzolay surrendered a six-run second inning Sunday. He lost control of his command and beaned the first batter, then followed with two walks. With the bases loaded, he gave up a grand slam to Zach McKinstry. After Mookie Betts reached on an error, Alzolay surrendered another long ball to Cody Bellinger. This was one of his worst performances this season, and he was pulled after finishing the third frame. The 26-year-old has a 4.55 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP with 70 strikeouts in 65.1 innings.

  • Tim Hill RP | NYY

Padres' Tim Hill: Credited with win

Hill (5-3) allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk across one inning to earn the win over Arizona on Sunday.

Hill entered the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead, but quickly surrendered the lead after the first four batters reached base safely. The Padres ended up retaking the lead later in the inning, giving Hill the win. The 31-year-old has a 2.56 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 31.2 innings. Prior to Sunday, he didn't allow a run in his last five straight appearances.

  • Dinelson Lamet RP | LAD

Padres' Dinelson Lamet: Lands on injured list

Lamet was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right forearm inflammation.

The 28-year-old exited Saturday's outing after 2.1 innings with what was initially labeled forearm fatigue, and he's now been diagnosed with forearm inflammation after being further evaluated. Lamet had two stints on the injured list during the first month of the season with forearm tightness, though it's unclear if the current injury is something new or a recurrence of the previous issue. Ryan Weathers is the likely candidate to fill Lamet's spot in the starting rotation.

  • Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Still working on skills in minors

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Graterol "is not a finished product" as he continues to pitch for Triple-A Oklahoma City, Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA reports.

Graterol hasn't pitched in the majors since April 26, just before he went on the injured list with right forearm tightness. The right-hander was reinstated from the IL on June 4 but has since been kept with the club's Triple-A squad, where he has reportedly been working on his sinker and slider. In 10 appearances with Oklahoma City, Graterol has allowed seven earned runs and compiled a 10:3 K:BB across 9.1 innings. It is unclear when he might be brought back up to the big club.

  • Alex Powers RP | CIN

Padres' Alex Powers: Signed by Padres

Powers was signed by the Padres on Friday and assigned to Triple-A El Paso, per his MiLB.com player profile page.

The 29-year-old has a career 3.24 ERA and 34 saves in 213 minor-league appearances, all but two of which have been in relief. He has yet to pitch in the majors but logged a 1.98 ERA across 27.1 innings with the Reds' Triple-A squad in 2019.

  • Reds' Reiver Sanmartin: Gets 10-game suspension

Sanmartin was suspended for 10 games at Triple-A Louisville for having pine tar on the brim of his cap, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Sanmartin was the first Triple-A pitcher to get suspended for using foreign substances on the ball since the increased enforcement of the rule. Sanmartin, who joined the Reds as part of the Sonny Gray trade, is working as a reliever at Louisville and has a 4.76 ERA in 22.2 innings.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

Reds' Tejay Antone: MRI comes back clean

Antone (forearm) had an MRI on Saturday that came back showing no structural damage, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Antone is hopeful that he'll return the first day after the All-Star break, but he's shut down from throwing for the moment. The nature of his injury coupled with the extended timetable for his recovery could make Antone a cut candidate in shallower formats or deeper mixed leagues with limited reserve spots, despite the fact that he's arguably been Cincinnati's best reliever this season.

  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Allows walkoff home run

Thompson (3-2) allowed a walkoff home run to take the loss Saturday against the Dodgers.

Thompson got the bottom of the ninth inning in a 2-2 game and started the frame on a positive note, retiring the first two batters. However, the righty then served up a solo home run to Cody Bellinger to take his second loss of the season. Thompson has been effective overall for the Cubs with a 1.95 ERA and 30 strikeouts across 27.2 innings, so he should remain in a high-leverage role despite the hiccup.

  • Andres Machado RP | WAS

    Nationals' Andres Machado: Recalled Sunday

Machado was recalled from Triple-A Rochester prior to Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Machado will take the roster spot of Erick Fedde, who landed on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain Sunday. Machado served as the club's 27th man during the July 12 twin bill against San Francisco but did not pitch in either game before being sent back to Rochester. The right-hander has posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 13.2 Triple-A innings this season.
