  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Allows walkoff home run

Thompson (3-2) allowed a walkoff home run to take the loss Saturday against the Dodgers.

Thompson got the bottom of the ninth inning in a 2-2 game and started the frame on a positive note, retiring the first two batters. However, the righty then served up a solo home run to Cody Bellinger to take his second loss of the season. Thompson has been effective overall for the Cubs with a 1.95 ERA and 30 strikeouts across 27.2 innings, so he should remain in a high-leverage role despite the hiccup.

  • Andres Machado RP | WAS

    Nationals' Andres Machado: Recalled Sunday

Machado was recalled from Triple-A Rochester prior to Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Machado will take the roster spot of Erick Fedde, who landed on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain Sunday. Machado served as the club's 27th man during the July 12 twin bill against San Francisco but did not pitch in either game before being sent back to Rochester. The right-hander has posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 13.2 Triple-A innings this season.

  • Dinelson Lamet RP | LAD

Padres' Dinelson Lamet: Dealing with forearm fatigue

Manager Jayce Tingler said following Saturday's loss to Arizona that Lamet is dealing with forearm fatigue and was removed from his start as a precautionary measure, 97.3 The Fan reports.

Lamet exited with trainers after yielding four runs on six hits across 2.1 innings. The right-hander had trouble gripping his slider and also experienced a slight dip in fastball velocity, leading Tingler to remove him in what is initially considered a precautionary move. Lamet will be further evaluated Sunday morning and for the time being he can be considered questionable to make his scheduled start against the Phillies next weekend.

  • J.B. Bukauskas RP | MIL

Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Initiates rehab assignment

Bukauskas (elbow) struck out two over one scoreless inning for Triple-A Reno on Saturday.

Bukauskas began a rehab assignment Saturday after throwing two bullpen sessions this week. As a reliever, he shouldn't need very many outings before rejoining the Diamondbacks' bullpen.

  • Dinelson Lamet RP | LAD

Padres' Dinelson Lamet: Exits with trainer Saturday

Lamet exited Saturday's start against the Diamondbacks with an apparent arm issue, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. He allowed four runs on six hits across 2.1 innings before departing.

It's not fully clear what forced the right-hander to exit, but it should be noted that he suffered a UCL strain last September and also dealt with forearm tightness earlier this season. Lamet's fastball velocity dipped prior to his departure, which could indicate that he's once again dealing with a problem in his forearm/elbow area. The Padres will likely provide an update later this weekend.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Falls into win Saturday

Diaz (2-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Phillies, getting charged with one run in one inning after walking one batter and hitting another with a pitch. He struck out one.

Entering the game in the top of the ninth inning with the score tied 2-2, Diaz put the first two batters he faced aboard and then uncorked a wild pitch, setting up Nick Maton to bring home a run with a sacrifice fly. The Mets closer was able to escape without further damage, however, and was still the pitcher of record when his team's offense rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame. Through 11 appearances in June, Diaz has a 2.61 ERA with a 14:3 K:BB through 10.1 innings and seven saves in eight chances.

  • Hector Neris RP | HOU

Phillies' Hector Neris: Blows another save

Neris (1-5) took the loss Saturday, giving up two unearned runs on one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning in a 4-3 loss to the Mets. He struck out one.

The Phillies took a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning and manager Joe Girardi turned to Neris rather than Jose Alvarado to close the door. Instead, Rhys Hoskins committed a fielding error to put the leadoff man aboard and the right-hander fell apart, walking in the tying run before a Michael Conforto sacrifice fly ended it. Alvarado blew a save attempt Friday after Girardi had suggested the southpaw was now the team's top option in the ninth, and until someone else in the Phillies bullpen shows they can get the job done consistently, Neris will likely remain in the closer mix despite going 11-for-17 on save chances this season.

  • Alex Reyes RP | LAD

Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Earns save Saturday

Reyes earned the save Saturday against the Pirates with a scoreless inning.

Reyes made quick work of the Pirates in the ninth, as he needed just eight pitches to earn his 18th save of the campaign. He's still a perfect 18-for-18 in save chances in 2021, and while he owns a 1.33 WHIP, he has limited the damage enough to post a 1.04 ERA.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Marlins' Yimi Garcia: Picks up save No. 12

Garcia allowed one hit and had two strikeouts in one inning to pick up the save in Saturday's win over Washington.

Garcia yielded a leadoff single to Josh Harrison to start the ninth, but he responded by fanning Alex Avila and Kyle Schwarber before inducing a game-ending pop-out by Trea Turner. It was an efficient performance by the veteran reliever, who had allowed a run in two of his previous three outings. Garcia is 3-6 with 12 saves in 15 opportunities in 2021, and he sports a stellar 2.79 ERA and 1.07 WHIP.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Corbin Martin: Optioned to Triple-A

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Martin was sent down following a disastrous start in which he allowed four runs against the Padres while recording just a single out. He's had a very tough time in 16 major-league innings this season, allowing 19 runs while posting a 13:14 K:BB. Brett de Geus was added to the roster in the corresponding move.
