  • Alex Reyes RP | LAD

Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Racks up 24th save

Reyes tossed a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 24th save of the season in a 4-2 win over Cleveland. He didn't walk or strike out a batter but did hit Bobby Bradley with a pitch.

He needed only 10 pitches (seven strikes) to breeze through the heart of the Cleveland order. Reyes' lapses in control have cost him a little more than they did earlier in the year, and since the beginning of June, he's posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB through 18.2 innings while still converting nine of 10 save chances.

  • Taylor Clarke RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Taylor Clarke: Throws in rehab outing

Clarke (shoulder) allowed five runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning for High-A Hillsboro on Tuesday.

This was Clarke's first appearance on rehab assignment. While the results were not good, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo indicated to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic prior to the outing that Clarke could be back with the team soon. "He's been feeling very, very good," Lovullo said. "He's going to fast-track this and get back to us as soon as possible." Clarke has been on the injured list since June 15.

  • Tyler Rogers RP | TOR

Giants' Tyler Rogers: Records second win

Rogers (2-1) earned the win Tuesday versus the Dodgers. He allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning.

Rogers bent but didn't break in the top of the eighth inning, putting two runners in scoring position with one out. A fielder's choice from Max Muncy and a flyout by Justin Turner ended the threat, and San Francisco took the lead in its half of the inning to put Rogers in line for the win. The right-hander remains an excellent high-leverage arm with a 1.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB through 47 innings. He's added 11 saves and 17 holds in 47 outings.

  • Mark Melancon RP | ARI

Padres' Mark Melancon: League-leading 31st save

Melancon pitched a clean ninth inning in Tuesday's 7-4 victory over the Athletics, recording one strikeout to earn the save.

Melancon made quick work of the bottom of Oakland's order on the way to his league-league saves mark. He's now recorded a save in four straight appearances, all during the past week, and appears primed to challenge his career-best 51 recorded with Pittsburgh in 2015.

  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Reds' Justin Wilson: Traded to Cincinnati

Wilson and Luis Cessa were acquired by the Reds from the Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later.

Wilson joined the Yankees on a one-year deal during the offseason, but he was unable to find much consistency in 21 outings with a 7.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. The veteran lefty, who hasn't had an ERA over 3.70 since 2016, will attempt to rediscover his old form with a new team.

  • Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM

Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Handed 11th loss

Alzolay (4-11) allowed four runs across five innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Reds. He gave up seven hits and no walks while striking out four.

For the second straight start, Alzolay was done in by home runs. He allowed three runs on two long balls his last time out and followed that up by allowing three solo bombs Tuesday. Alzolay has now given up 23 home runs in 93.1 innings this season after allowing just a single homer in 2020, albeit in only 21.1 innings. The 26-year-old has pitched decently for the Cubs at times, but he's going to struggle to find consistent success if he can't keep the ball in the yard. Alzolay will look to get back on track in his next scheduled start Sunday against the Nationals.

  • Zack Littell SP | WAS

Giants' Zack Littell: Sent to Triple-A

Littell was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Littell has been a passable bullpen option this season, posting a 3.44 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:16 K:BB over 34 innings. The right-hander could rejoin the Giants later in the year if the team needs extra bullpen depth.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Giants' Sammy Long: Returns from injured list

Long (back) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Long has been on the shelf about three weeks with a back strain and will rejoin the active roster after covering one inning during a rehab appearance in the minors. The 26-year-old was working as a starter prior to the injury, but he'll be available out of the bullpen with San Francisco's rotation currently in good health.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

    Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Unavailable Tuesday

Manager Dave Roberts said Kelly (hamstring) is unavailable for Tuesday's game at San Francisco, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The veteran right-hander tweaked his hamstring during Sunday's win over the Rockies and will be sidelined for at least one game. It's not believed to be a serious issue, so Kelly could be available for Wednesday's contest.

  • Adonis Medina RP | SEA

Phillies' Adonis Medina: Activated from injured list

Medina (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

It never became clear what forced Medina to the IL, but he'll now return to the active roster after missing just under four weeks. The right-hander will resume his Triple-A campaign with a 5.73 ERA.
