  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Earns win in relief

Treinen (6-5) earned the win in relief Friday against the Brewers after tossing a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Treinen pitched the seventh inning and looked dominant, needing just 14 pitches (10 strikes) to get the job done en route to his sixth win of the campaign. He has tossed seven scoreless outings over his last eight appearances and has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen for Los Angeles, as he owns a 1.99 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP through 72 appearances while also racking up seven saves (out of 11 chances) and 32 holds.

  • Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM

Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Continues scoreless streak

Alzolay pitched two scoreless innings in Friday's loss to the Cardinals. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two.

Alzolay now has a modest streak of three straight scoreless appearances out of the bullpen, a span that covers 6.2 innings. The righty has lowered his ERA to 4.58 in the process and has looked like someone who could be a valuable option in long relief. However, there's still a decent chance Alzolay works back into the rotation next season, as the Cubs have some question marks behind staff ace Kyle Hendricks.

  • Camilo Doval RP | NYY

Giants' Camilo Doval: Notches another save

Doval struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save over San Diego on Friday.

The right-hander needed only 11 pitches (eight of which were strikes) to set the Padres down in order and register his third save in four days. Over that stretch, he has struck out five batters and allowed only one baserunner over three scoreless frames. Doval's dominance in his brief time as the team's closer could provide some intrigue with Jake McGee (oblique) -- who has done well as the team's primary closer throughout the campaign -- on the verge of being activated.

  • Pedro Avila RP | CLE

Padres' Pedro Avila: Takes loss in 2021 debut

Avila (0-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings to suffer the loss against San Francisco on Friday.

Avila served up a one-out solo home run to Darin Ruf in the first inning and yielded a second run in the frame following a two-out error. However, he rebounded from the rough beginning to keep the Giants off the scoreboard over his remaining three frames. The right-hander needed an inefficient 84 pitches to get through his four innings, however, and he was tagged with the loss as San Diego's offense was unable to generate any run support. Avila had made only one career big-league appearance (in 2019) before Friday, and he didn't pitch at all in 2020 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

  • Cory Abbott RP | SEA

Cubs' Cory Abbott: Surrenders two across five frames

Abbott didn't factor into the decision during Friday's 4-3 loss to St. Louis, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

Making his first big league start, Abbott pitched well to every Cardinal batter other than Tyler O'Neill, who tagged the righty for two solo home runs, and enjoyed his best outing all season in what is likely his final appearance of the campaign. The rookie concludes 2021 without a decision in 17.1 innings featuring a 6.75 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 12:11 K:BB.

  • Cardinals' Giovanny Gallegos: Collects sixth win

Gallegos (6-5) got the win in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Cubs, allowing two hits in one scoreless inning.

Gallegos entered a 3-3 tie in the ninth inning and allowed a leadoff double to Willson Contreras but he was eventually erased on a play at the plate, and he became the winner when St. Louis walked it off in the bottom of the inning. It was the 30-year-old's first win since June 28 as he's now thrown eight consecutive scoreless innings across his last eight appearances.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Five scoreless frames

Hudson got a no-decision in Friday's 4-3 win over the Cubs, allowing three runs and one walk with four strikeouts in five scoreless innings.

Making only his second start of the season, Hudson made his case to be part of St. Louis' postseason staff with five clean innings and only 70 pitches thrown. He departed with a 2-0 lead, but Chicago eventually came back and erased the 27-year-old from the final line. Hudson will look to come back stronger in 2022 if he isn't part of St. Louis' postseason plans.

  • Wil Crowe RP | PIT

Pirates' Wil Crowe: Excellent in last start of 2021

Crowe pitched six shutout innings in a no-decision versus Cincinnati on Friday. He allowed just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts.

The right-hander saved his best start of the year for last. The three baserunners he allowed was the lowest total in his 26 appearances, while the nine strikeouts matched a season high. Crowe typically didn't have that much success in 2021, posting a 5.48 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 111:57 K:BB across 116.2 innings. He finishes the season with a 4-8 record, while a 4.4 BB/9 and a 1.9 HR/9 can explain most of his overall poor ratios.

  • Cardinals' Genesis Cabrera: Diagnosed with left finger injury

Cabrera was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs as a precautionary measure with left middle finger discomfort, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Cabrera has dealt with finger injuries in the past, but his current injury doesn't appear to be a significant concern. The southpaw should be considered day-to-day following Friday's early exit.

  • Cardinals' Genesis Cabrera: Leaves game with trainer

Cabrera exited Friday's game against the Cubs in the top of the sixth inning with an apparent injury, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera walked three of the four batters he faced after entering Friday's game in the top of the sixth, and he was visited by a trainer after throwing 17 pitches. The trainer appeared to be examining one of the 24-year-old's fingernails on his left hand, but the specifics of his injury aren't yet clear.
