Luis Garcia RP | MIN
Phillies' Luis Garcia: Added to 40-man roster
Garcia's contract was selected by the Phillies on Friday.
Much of Garcia's prospect shine wore off in 2019, when he posted an awful .186/.261/.255 line over a full season at Low-A Lakewood. He was just 18 and was clearly overmatched, however, and he looked much better at the same level in 2021, hitting .246/.356/.423. He's still nowhere close to MLB-ready, as he didn't do much in 16 games after a late-season promotion to High-A to close the year, but the Phillies evidently saw enough to bother protecting him from the Rule 5 draft.

Ryan Rolison RP | CHC
Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Shielded from Rule 5 draft
Rolison was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster on Friday.
Rolison will no longer be available for selection in the Rule 5 draft. He'll have a chance to make his big-league debut at some point next season, as he's already made 10 Triple-A starts, but his 5.91 ERA there means he still has to conquer that level before earning his next opportunity.

Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA
Braves' Freddy Tarnok: Contract selected Thursday
Tarnok's contract was selected by Atlanta on Thursday.
Tarnok progressed to Double-A Mississippi in 2021 and logged a 2.60 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 45 innings across nine starts. His addition to the 40-man roster will protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.

Trevor Kelley RP | SEA
Brewers' Trevor Kelley: Links up with Milwaukee
Kelley signed a minor-league deal with the Brewers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Kelley began 2021 with the Cubs but was cut in April before latching on with Atlanta. He made 37 appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett and pitched well with a 1.52 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB across 41.1 innings.

Yunior Marte RP | CIN
Giants' Yunior Marte: Added to 40-man roster
Marte's contract was selected by the Giants on Sunday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Marte joined the Giants on a minor-league deal in December of 2020 and will remain in the organization ahead of the 2022 campaign. He made 43 appearances (one start) at Triple-A Sacramento in 2021 and posted a 3.49 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 56.2 innings.

Jay Jackson RP | MIN
Giants' Jay Jackson: Remaining in San Francisco
Jackson's club option for 2022 was picked up by the Giants on Sunday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Jackson was shuffled between the majors and minors last year but will remain with the Giants in 2022. The right-hander recorded a 3.74 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 21.2 innings across 23 appearances (one start) in 2021.

Jose Soriano SP | LAA
Pirates' Jose Soriano: Designated for assignment
Soriano (elbow) was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Sunday, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Soriano will likely miss the 2022 season after he underwent revision Tommy John surgery in mid-June, and he'll now be cast off the 40-man roster. The right-hander was selected by the Pirates in the Rule 5 draft in 2020 but hasn't yet progressed past the High-A level.

Enyel De Los Santos RP | HOU
Pirates' Enyel De Los Santos: Dumped from 40-man roster
De Los Santos was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
De Los Santos is still just 25 years old, but he hasn't done enough to entice a team to claim him off waivers. In 65.1 career major-league innings, most of which have come in relief, he owns a 6.06 ERA, though his 27.7 percent strikeout rate in 35.1 frames this season hints at some small amount of potential despite his 6.37 ERA.

Scott Alexander RP | SF
Dodgers' Scott Alexander: Outrighted off roster
Alexander (shoulder) was outrighted off the Dodgers' 40-man roster Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Alexander cruised to a 2.93 ERA in 15.1 innings in the early part of the season but wound up missing much of the year with shoulder inflammation. It's unclear whether or not he'll be back to 100 percent by the start of spring training.
