  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Removed with wrist injury

Holderman was removed from Saturday's 6-1 win over the Padres due to right wrist inflammation, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. He was credited with a hold while hitting a batter and retiring the other two hitters he faced. Holderman was removed with two outs in the seventh inning after throwing a wild pitch. He was allowed a few warmup pitches before Guardians manager Stephen Vogt decided to lift him from the game. Vogt classified Holderman's injury as a day-to-day concern following Saturday's contest, but the right-hander will likely be evaluated further before he Guardians decide if he'll require a stint on the injured list. Holderman, who was shut down for six weeks last season due to a similar injury, has been a bright spot in the bullpen in 2026. He holds a 2.39 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB over 49 innings and has collected six wins, one save and 10 holds across 49 appearances.

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Takes loss Saturday

Holderman (6-3) did not retire a batter and was tagged with Saturday's loss to the White Sox. He allowed three runs on two hits and hit two batters. Holderman has been a trusted option in the Guardians bullpen and was summoned with one runner on base and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning after starter Gavin Williams threw 102 pitches (one shy of his season high). Holderman promptly hit the first two batters he faced to load the bases before allowing a two-run double and two-run single. He entered the contest with a 1.14 ERA over his previous 27 appearances (23.2 innings).

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Collects first save of 2026

Holderman earned the save in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Marlins, tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Cade Smith was dispatched in each of the Guardians' three games prior to Saturday, so Holderman was called on to protect Cleveland's 4-1 lead. Holderman needed only 11 pitches (eight strikes) to get the job done for his first save of the season and fourth save of his major-league career. He has a 1.78 ERA and 0.85 WHIP over 35.1 innings this season.

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Picks up fourth win

Holderman (4-1) got the win after allowing a hit and no walks in a scoreless inning while striking out two in a 9-4 win over the Yankees on Tuesday. Holderman entered in the bottom of the fifth, striking out both Amed Rosario and Jazz Chisholm, and kept Cleveland's 5-4 lead intact. Coming off one of his worst appearances of the season Sunday -- when he allowed two earned runs to Boston in just one-third of an inning -- Holderman bounced back in a big way Tuesday. The 30-year-old has a 2.05 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB through 22 innings in his first season with Cleveland.

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Heading back to majors

Cleveland recalled Holderman from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Holderman had a brief stint with the big-league club earlier in the campaign, appearing in two games and allowing two earned runs while posting a 3:2 K:BB over three innings. He'll likely take on a low-leverage role now that's he's back. Holderman is filling the bullpen spot vacated by Shawn Armstrong, who landed on the IL with a right groin strain Sunday.

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Sent down to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Holderman to Triple-A Columbus on Monday. Holderman made the Guardians' Opening Day roster but struggled across his first two outings, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out three across three innings. He'll move down to Triple-A to work on his control but would be a top candidate to return to the majors if Cleveland needs an additional right-hander out of the bullpen. In corresponding moves, Doug Nikhazy was designated for assignment and Kolby Allard had his contract selected by the Guardians from Triple-A Columbus.

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Nets one-year deal with Cleveland

The Guardians signed Holderman to a one-year, $1.5 million contract Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Holderman was non-tendered by the Pirates in November following a disastrous 2025 season that saw him collect a 7.01 ERA and 18:16 K:BB over 25.2 innings. The 30-year-old reliever entered the season with a career 3.58 ERA and 23.8 percent strikeout rate, so he's a good bet to bounce back to some degree in 2026 in a new setting. The Guardians will have multiple years of control, as Holderman will be eligible for salary arbitration in 2027 and 2028.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Pirates optioned Holderman to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. Holderman will end up as the odd man out of Pittsburgh's bullpen following Justin Lawrence's (elbow) return from the injured list. Holderman has taken a massive step back this year, posting a 7.01 ERA through 25.2 innings in the big leagues after logging a 3.16 ERA in 2024. Despite his performance, he remains a candidate to return to Pittsburgh if/when the Bucs need bullpen depth for their final stretch of games.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Nabs rare save Thursday

Holderman secured the save Thursday against the Dodgers, allowing one hit and striking out one in two-thirds of an inning. It's possible that primary closer Dennis Santana was unavailable after working each of the past two days for the Pirates, which opened the door for Holderman to collect his first save of the year and the third of his career. However, Holderman shouldn't be expected to see many more save chances down the stretch. Over 22.1 innings, the right-hander has a 7.66 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 15:14 K:BB with two holds.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Activated and optioned

The Pirates activated Holderman (thumb) from the 15-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman has been shelved since late May with right thumb inflammation. While he is now healthy, the Pirates have elected to keep him at Indianapolis where he had been on his rehab assignment rather than adding him back to the big-league bullpen.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Beginning rehab assignment

Holderman (thumb) began a rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton on Thursday and gave up one run on one hit while striking out three over one inning. Holderman has been on the shelf since May 20 due to right thumb inflammation but was cleared to report to Bradenton after completing his throwing program at the Pirates' spring training facility. He'll likely need a few appearances in the minors before being activated from the injured list, but he should be back in the Pirates bullpen at some point in early July.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Activated from IL

The Pirates activated Holderman (knee) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Holderman landed on the 15-day IL due to a right knee sprain, but he's fully recovered after two rehab outings. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out one over 1.2 innings in the minors, and he'll look to improve on his 9.64 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in the majors upon his return to the Pirates' bullpen. To make room on the 26-man roster for Holderman, the Pirates optioned Mike Burrows to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Making rehab outing Saturday

Holderman (knee) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports. Holderman was placed on the 15-day injured list April 6 due to a right knee sprain. He was able to progress enough in his recovery to throw live batting practice, and he'll take the next step in his program by embarking on a rehab assignment. Holderman posted a 9.64 ERA and 2.14 WHIP across 4.2 innings before going on the IL.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Avoids arbitration

Holderman signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Pirates on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Despite missing several weeks in August with a wrist injury, 2024 marked the best season of Holderman's three-year career. He finished the year with a 3.16 ERA and 1.31 WHIP alongside a 56:25 K:BB over 51.1 innings and is likely to reprise his role as a setup man in 2025.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Makes return from IL

The Pirates reinstated Holderman (wrist) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. With the active roster expanding from 26 to 28 men Sunday, the Pirates will bring aboard two relievers in Holderman and Ryan Borucki (wrist), both of whom were activated from the IL. Holderman had been on the shelf since Aug. 8 with a sprained wrist but looks to be good to go after tossing an inning for Triple-A Indianapolis in each of his five rehab appearances.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Dominant run ends

Holderman (1-3) allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one across one inning to take the loss Sunday against the Rays. Holderman entered the game in the eighth inning with the score knotted at 1-1 and allowed four of the first five batters he faced to reach base to account for the damage. This was the first time he has allowed an earned run in 10 appearances for the month, and he still has a 1.30 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 27.2 innings on the season. Aroldis Chapman figures to be the primary closer while David Bednar (oblique) is sidelined, but Holderman could also pick up some save chances as arguably Pittsburgh's best remaining high-leverage reliever.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Makes season debut

Holderman allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit across two-thirds of an inning Thursday against the Phillies. Holderman was sidelined with an illness for a significant part of spring training, so he began on the season injured list to build up his workload. He was activated Thursday and entered the game in the seventh inning, only to serve up a two-run home run to the second batter he faced. Holderman will likely pitch in high-leverage spots, though he'll be behind both David Bednar and Aroldis Chapman for save opportunities.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Begins rehab assignment

The Pirates sent Holderman (illness) to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday to begin a rehab assignment. A lengthy battle with a virus kept Holderman out of action for a significant amount of time during spring training, so he will head to Indianapolis in order to properly prepare for his regular-season debut. The 28-year-old righty will be eligible to return from the IL on April 9.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Hits shelf Thursday

The Pirates placed Holderman (illness) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Holderman was set back in spring training by a bout with a virus, but he's expected to throw a live batting practice session this week and should soon head to Triple-A Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment. The right-hander proved to be one of Pittsburgh's more reliable relievers in his first full season in the organization in 2023, compiling a 3.86 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 58:20 K:BB in 56 innings.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Exits outing early

Holderman exited his appearance in Saturday's contest versus the Twins with cramping in his right arm, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Holderman entered the game in the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits and walk while striking out a batter before exiting. Considering it's his throwing arm, more information on Holderman's status will likely be provided following the contest.
