  • Zack Thompson RP | STL

Cardinals' Zack Thompson: Coughs up five runs

Thompson allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings in Monday's win over Pittsburgh. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.

Thompson had given up just one run through four frames before a brutal fifth inning. He yielded four runs in the frame, including a three-run homer by Michael Chavis. Fortunately for Thompson, he avoided taking the loss in his first career start when his team mounted a comeback after he left the game. The 24-year-old southpaw now ows a 6.00 ERA through nine MLB innings.

  • Phillies' Seranthony Dominguez: Picks up win Monday

Dominguez (4-1) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Monday versus the Marlins.

Dominguez did his part to keep the score tied at 2-2, and Rhys Hoskins lifted the Phillies to the win with a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning. It's been over a month of dominance for Dominguez, who extended his scoreless streak to 14 innings, a span in which he's allowed six hits and five walks while picking up 19 strikeouts. Closer Corey Knebel (shoulder) doesn't appear likely to miss an extended length of time, but Dominguez should be in the mix for save chances in the interim. He's posted a 1.54 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB with 10 holds in 23.1 innings this year.

  • Jake Junis RP | TEX

Giants' Jakob Junis: Out 4-to-6 weeks

Junis' Grade 2 hamstring strain will keep him out for 4-to-6 weeks, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Junis suffered the injury in his start Friday against the Dodgers. His loss will be a surprisingly significant one for the Giants, as he owns a 2.63 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through nine outings this season. The given timeline means he should return either shortly before or shortly after the All-Star break.

  • Pirates' Duane Underwood: Heads to COVID-19 IL

Underwood was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Monday.

Underwood is coming off a rough outing Saturday against the Braves, surrendering three runs on two hits and a walk while fanning two over 1.1 innings. Jason Delay had his contract selected from the taxi squad in a corresponding move.

  • Reds' Reiver Sanmartin: Called up from Triple-A

The Reds recalled Sanmartin from Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Sanmartin broke camp in the major-league rotation but was optioned within a month after struggling to an awful 13.78 ERA across five appearances. His 7.36 ERA in 18.1 innings as a swingman for Louisville hardly inspires confidence, though he recently righted the ship, giving up three earned runs while striking out 15 over 10.1 innings in his four most recent appearances.

  • Giants' Mauricio Llovera: Back in big leagues

Llovera was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Monday's game against Kansas City.

Llovera has appeared in nine games for the Giants in 2022, putting together a 5.87 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with a 9:2 K:BB across 7.2 frames. Heliot Ramos was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Anthony Bender RP | MIA

Marlins' Anthony Bender: Tosses another bullpen

Bender (back) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Bender threw 15 pitches off a mound Thursday and slightly increased his pitch count during Sunday's throwing session. He apparently felt good afterward, as he's expected to throw in a simulated game soon. The right-hander doesn't yet have a timetable to rejoin the Marlins but has made good progress recently.

  • Luis Garcia RP | MIN

Padres' Luis Garcia: Charged with loss Sunday

Garcia (4-3) took the loss in relief against Colorado on Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two batters in one inning.

Garcia entered the contest with the score tied 2-2 in the eighth inning. The right-hander sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around two singles before giving up a two-run double that provided the final margin in the contest. Garcia entered the contest having notched eight straight scoreless outings, and he has been reliable overall this season with a 3.09 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 24:6 K:BB and 10 holds across 24 appearances.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Increases activity Sunday

Treinen (shoulder) played catch and made over 60 throws Sunday, the Associated Press reports.

Treinen has been playing catch for over a week, and his activity Sunday suggests that he is progressing in his rehab from right shoulder soreness. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted that the right-handed reliever was fatigued but pain-free following the session. Treinen is currently on the 60-day IL and isn't expected to be ready to return for at least another month.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | CHC

Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Spot start on tap

The Pirates plan to call up Wilson from Triple-A Indianapolis to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader in St. Louis, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Pittsburgh is expected to designate Wilson as the 27th man for the twin bill, so he'll likely be sent back to Triple-A immediately after the spot start. Wilson submitted a 3.32 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB in 19 innings in his three starts for Indianapolis after losing his spot in the big-league rotation and getting optioned to the minors May 23.
