Mets' Adonis Medina: Recalled from Syracuse

Medina was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

The right-hander was sent down in early June but will rejoin the major-league bullpen as part of a move after Jake Reed was optioned to Syracuse on Friday. Medina made six relief appearances for the Mets earlier in the season and posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 9.2 innings.

  • Lucas Sims RP | CHW

Reds' Lucas Sims: Transferred to 60-day IL

Sims (back) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Sims began a throwing program in late May but won't be eligible to rejoin the Reds until at least mid-July after being moved to the 60-day injured list. It's not clear how much progress the right-hander has made in his throwing progression, but Art Warren and Alexis Diaz are the top two closing options in the Reds' bullpen after Tony Santillan (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday.

  • Tony Santillan RP | CIN

Reds' Tony Santillan: Lands on 15-day IL

Santillan was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a back injury.

Santillan has apparently been dealing with the issue over the last few days and will be sidelined for at least two weeks. The exact nature and severity of his injury aren't yet clear, and he doesn't have a timetable to return. Art Warren and Alexis Diaz should see more work in the ninth inning while Santillan and Lucas Sims (back) are sidelined.

Rockies' Ty Blach: Throws bullpen session

Blach (wrist) has thrown a bullpen session since being placed on the injured list, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Blach injured his wrist during a collision with Jurickson Profar and was placed on the injured list June 11. He didn't provide much detail but did tell reporters Thursday that he had thrown a bullpen session since being sidelined and felt good afterward. It's unclear if Blach will be able to return after a minimum stay on the injured list, but he will be first eligible for activation June 26. Prior to going down, Blach struggled to a 6.61 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP across 31.1 innings.

  • Ethan Roberts RP | CHC

Cubs' Ethan Roberts: Starting rehab stint

Robets (shoulder) will report to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday to begin a rehab assignment, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Roberts recently threw a live batting practice session, which was his final hurdle before being cleared for game action. The 24-year-old has been sidelined by shoulder inflammation since late April, so he'll likely require at least a couple appearances with Iowa before being reinstated to the big-league roster.

Nationals' Andres Machado: Sent down Friday

Machado was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Machado was called up by the Nationals in early June and posted a 5.59 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 9.2 innings over five relief appearances during his stint with the major-league club. The right-hander will head back to the minors after right-hander Cory Abbott was recalled Friday.

Nationals' Cory Abbott: Called up by Washington

Abbott was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Abbott was claimed off waivers by the Giants in early May and will join the major-league bullpen after spending the last month and a half with the Triple-A club. He made six appearances (two starts) in Rochester and posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 13 innings. The right-hander should be deployed as a multi-inning reliever by the Nationals.

Entering the game to begin the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4, Smith kept the heart of Milwaukee's order off the board then got rewarded when the Mets pushed across a run in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander has been scored upon only once in his last eight appearances, posting a 0.96 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through 9.1 innings over that stretch, and his high-leverage role has allowed him to amass a career-high 12 holds already in 2022.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Dodges danger in save

Diaz allowed two hits and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.

Diaz allowed a single to Hunter Renfroe and a double to Tyrone Taylor, but the former was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the ninth inning. Diaz then struck out Christian Yelich to end the threat. This was just the fifth appearance of the month for the Mets' closer, and the first in which he's allowed any hits. He extended his scoreless streak to 7.2 innings and now owns a 2.05 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB across 26.1 innings overall. The 28-year-old is 13-for-16 in save chances while adding a hold and a 2-1 record through 26 appearances.
