Drew Smith RP | WAS
Mets' Drew Smith: Collects first win
Smith (1-1) picked up the win Thursday against the Brewers, giving up two hits over a scoreless inning of relief while striking out one.
Entering the game to begin the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4, Smith kept the heart of Milwaukee's order off the board then got rewarded when the Mets pushed across a run in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander has been scored upon only once in his last eight appearances, posting a 0.96 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through 9.1 innings over that stretch, and his high-leverage role has allowed him to amass a career-high 12 holds already in 2022.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Dodges danger in save
Diaz allowed two hits and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Diaz allowed a single to Hunter Renfroe and a double to Tyrone Taylor, but the former was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the ninth inning. Diaz then struck out Christian Yelich to end the threat. This was just the fifth appearance of the month for the Mets' closer, and the first in which he's allowed any hits. He extended his scoreless streak to 7.2 innings and now owns a 2.05 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB across 26.1 innings overall. The 28-year-old is 13-for-16 in save chances while adding a hold and a 2-1 record through 26 appearances.

Taylor Rogers RP | MIN
Padres' Taylor Rogers: Earns 20th save
Rogers allowed a run on a hit and no walks while failing to strike out a batter in one inning to earn the save in Thursday's win over the Cubs.
Rogers gave up a one-out triple in the ninth inning Thursday and allowed the baserunner to come across, but he was able to keep the Padres' lead intact to pick up his third save in his last four outings. The southpaw has converted all but three of his save chances this year, and he became the first pitcher to reach 20 saves this year. Rogers has posted a 3.00 ERA and 0.78 WHIP in 27 innings over his first 28 appearances of the season.

Joan Adon SP | WAS
Nationals' Joan Adon: Rejoining big club for spot start
The Nationals plan to call up Adon from Triple-A Rochester to start the first game of Friday's doubleheader with the Phillies, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Washington is likely to designate Adon as its 27th man for the twin bill, so he's expected to be returned to Rochester immediately after the spot start. He'll be rejoining the Nationals after going 1-10 while supplying a 6.95 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 44:35 K:BB in 55.2 innings over 12 starts before being demoted to Triple-A earlier this month.

Adrian Morejon RP | SD
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Returns from COVID-19 IL
The Padres reinstated Morejon from the COVID-19-related injured list Thursday.
Morejon's activation leaves right-hander Mike Clevinger as the only player left on the Padres' COVID-19 IL. Since he was only out for five days, Morejon didn't require a rehab assignment prior to being reinstated. He'll likely handle a low-leverage multi-inning role out of the San Diego bullpen moving forward.

Ryan Weathers SP | NYY
Padres' Ryan Weathers: Returns to minor leagues
The Padres optioned Weathers to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
San Diego already has six other healthy starting pitchers on the active roster and could get another (Mike Clevinger) back from the COVID-19-related injured list next week, so Weathers' demotion was fully expected regardless of how he performed in Wednesday's 19-5 win over the Cubs. Even though the Padres won comfortably, Weathers didn't factor into the decision in his first start with the big club after surrendering four runs on six hits and four walks across 3.2 innings prior to his departure.

Jacob Webb RP | CHC
Braves' Jacob Webb: Designated for assignment
Webb was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Thursday.
Webb was acquired from Arizona in exchange for cash considerations when Collin McHugh hit the COVID-19 injured list in early June. With McHugh now healthy again, he'll exit the active and 40-man rosters. Despite spending nine days with the team, Webb didn't appear in a single game.

Collin McHugh RP | ATL
Braves' Collin McHugh: Activated from COVID-19 IL
Atlanta reinstated McHugh (illness) from the COVID-19-related injured list Thursday.
Fellow reliever Jacob Webb was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40-man and 26-man active rosters for McHugh, who had been sidelined since June 7 after testing positive for the virus. Now that he's healthy again, The 34-year-old should reclaim a middle relief/setup role in front of closer Kenley Jansen. McHugh generated a 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB in 23.2 innings prior to landing on the IL.

Bryse Wilson RP | CHC
Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Sent back to minors
The Pirates optioned Wilson to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
As expected, Wilson was up with the Pirates for only one day after he was needed to make a spot start in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals. Even though Wilson appeared to make strides over his three starts at Triple-A prior to his call-up, the young right-hander once again struggled in his return to the majors. He covered five innings in the Pirates' 9-1 loss and was blasted for seven earned runs on 10 hits and a walk.

Tanner Scott RP | LAD
Marlins' Tanner Scott: Blows first save
Scott (2-2) took the loss and blew his first save of the season Wednesday as the Marlins were downed 3-1 by the Phillies, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. Both outs came on strikeouts.
Called in to close out a combined shutout, Scott instead put two runners aboard before serving up a walkoff homer to backup catcher Garrett Stubbs. Scott hadn't allowed an earned run in June prior to Wednesday's stumble, but his 5.04 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 39:13 K:BB through 25 innings on the season make it tough to count on him holding down the closer job in Miami for the long haul.
