    Doval struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Nationals.

    Doval retired the side on 13 pitches to lock down his eighth save of the season. He's allowed just two walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings in five appearances in May. The closer is 8-for-9 in save chances this season, and he has a 2.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB through 15.2 innings.

    Phillips picked up the save in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Brewers, retiring the only batter he faced.

    Phillips entered with two outs and two on the ninth and needed six pitches to induce a groundout from Tyrone Taylor. Brusdar Graterol failed to finish off the ninth with a four-run lead, leading to Phillips' appearance. Phillips leads the team with six saves; Graterol has two.

    Phillies' Jose Alvarado: Unavailable due to tight wrist

    Alvarado was unavailable to pitch Tuesday against Toronto because of tightness in his left wrist, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

    Alvarado mentioned that he's "unconcerned" about the injury, and he hopes to pitch during Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays if needed. The left-hander should be considered day-to-day, and even if he doesn't log an appearance Wednesday, this doesn't appear to be a long-term issue.

    Padres' Jose Castillo: Cleared for rehab assignment

    Castillo (shoulder) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A El Paso, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Castillo landed on the injured list before the start of the regular season after battling left shoulder discomfort in the final few weeks of spring training. If all goes well from here, he could be an option for the Padres' bullpen sometime next week.

    Cubs' Brandon Hughes: Another bullpen Wednesday

    Hughes (knee) will throw another bullpen session Wednesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

    Hughes returned to the injured list at the end of April with left knee inflammation after missing the first two weeks of the 2023 regular season with the very same issue. He's trending in the right direction now, but the Cubs figure to play this a bit more carefully than they did the first time around.

    Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Recalled from Triple-A

    The Cardinals recalled Pallante from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

    Pallante pitched well during his three-week stay at Memphis and will now look to get back to his 2022 form. He had surrendered seven earned runs on 12 hits and four walks over 8.1 innings this season with St. Louis prior to his mid-April demotion.

    Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Optioned back to Triple-A

    The Cardinals optioned Romero to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

    Romero gave up two earned runs while recording only one out in his last appearance Sunday versus the Tigers. Andre Pallante is joining the Cardinals' bullpen in a corresponding move.

    Brewers' Gus Varland: Activated from injured list

    The Brewers activated Varland (hand) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

    Varland will return to the Brewers' bullpen ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Dodgers after missing three weeks due to a right hand contusion. The Rule 5 Draft pick has allowed three runs -- two earned -- in 6.2 innings this season with Milwaukee.

    Dodgers' Justin Bruihl: Summoned from Triple-A

    The Dodgers recalled Bruihl from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

    He will the bullpen spot left vacant by Caleb Ferguson, who has gone on paternity leave. Bruihl holds a strong 1.80 ERA with four strikeouts through five innings of work this season at the major-league level.

    Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Goes on paternity leave

    The Dodgers placed Ferguson on the paternity list Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

    Ferguson is expected to miss the final two games of the Dodgers' three-game set against the Brewers as he and his wife welcome their first child. He should be back before Friday's series opener versus the Padres.
