  • Brandon Hughes RP | CHC

Cubs' Brandon Hughes: Moves to 60-day IL

The Cubs transferred Hughes (knee) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

With Hughes set to undergo season-ending knee alignment surgery in the next few days, seeing him land on the 60-day IL is hardly a surprise. His transfer makes room on the 40-man roster for Jared Young to be selected from Triple-A Iowa.

  • Jake Wong RP | CIN

Reds' Jake Wong: DFA'd by Reds

The Reds designated Wong for assignment Tuesday.

One day after earning his first MLB call up, Wong will once again find himself off the 40-man roster. Wong made his debut Monday, surrendering three runs on six hits and three walks over three innings out of the bullpen. He'll presumably return to Triple-A, where he holds a 10.13 ERA and 1.87 WHIP across 18.2 frames.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Marlins' Matt Barnes: Works scoreless inning in rehab

Barnes (hip) struck out a batter and gave up no hits and one walk in a scoreless inning during his rehab appearance Tuesday for the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.

Barnes pitched a clean inning without much issue in what marked his first appearance at any level since June 1 after he landed on the injured list with a left hip impingement. The right-hander may require another minor-league appearance or two before the Marlins are comfortable adding him back to the MLB bullpen.

  • Matt Koch RP | COL

Rockies' Matt Koch: Selected to MLB bullpen

Colorado selected Koch's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

Koch was struggling to the tune of a 7.27 ERA through 34.2 innings this season at the Triple-A level, but the Rockies are desperate for fresh bullpen arms. The 32-year-old has made only four major-league appearances since the end of the 2019 season.

  • Joe Mantiply RP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Mantiply to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

The 2022 All-Star's move to the minors comes after he surrendered eight earned runs over eight innings across his five relief appearances since Arizona reinstated him from the 15-day injured list June 12. The Diamondbacks haven't announced a corresponding roster move for Mantiply, who could be back in the Arizona bullpen after stringing together a few quality appearances at Triple-A.

  • Reiss Knehr RP | SD

Padres' Reiss Knehr: Called upon for spot start

Knehr will start Tuesday against Pittsburgh, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Yu Darvish was scratched from his scheduled start due to illness, so Knehr will temporarily fill in as San Diego's starter. The 26-year-old righty has made six major-league starts and holds a 5.24 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 46.1 innings throughout his MLB career.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

Reds' Tejay Antone: Throwing again in Arizona

Antone (elbow) started a throwing program at the Reds' spring facility in Arizona earlier this month and resumed pitching off a mound last week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

According to Rosecrans, if Antone remains free of setbacks while building up over the course of multiple bullpen sessions, he'll be cleared to face hitters in live batting practice beginning July 8. After that, Antone will be targeting July 19 as the starting date for his rehab assignment, and he'll most likely stay in the minors for close to the full length of the 30-day window as he aims to regain both velocity and command coming off his August 2021 Tommy John surgery. Antone had been expected to be fully healthy for spring training, but he suffered a flexor strain in the same elbow over the offseason to further delay his return to the Cincinnati bullpen. He now appears poised to make his 2023 debut at some point in August.

  • Derek Law RP | ARI

Reds' Derek Law: Makes rehab appearance

Law (elbow) began a rehab assignment with High-A Dayton on Sunday and struck out a batter over a perfect inning.

Because Law has been on the shelf since May 19 with a right flexor mass sprain, he'll likely require additional tune-ups in the minors before the Reds are ready to welcome him back from the 15-day injured list. Prior to being deactivated, Law bagged three wins, two holds and one save over his 20 appearances while pitching to a 2.57 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 21 innings.

  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Brewers' Justin Wilson: Beginning rehab assignment

Wilson (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Wilson has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a Tommy John procedure he underwent in June 2022. Wilson figures to spend a good amount of time on assignment to ensure there are no lingering issues with his left elbow, so he could still be roughly a month away from making his debut in the Brewers' bullpen.

  • Josh Simpson RP | SEA

Marlins' Josh Simpson: Out with shoulder impingement

Simpson is on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Jacksonville with a left shoulder impingement, Baseball America reports.

A 25-year-old lefty reliever, Simpson logged a 6.55 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in 11 innings across eight appearances before landing on the injured list in early May. He is rehabbing the injury at the team's spring training complex in Florida.
