  • Red Sox's Aroldis Chapman: Takes first loss since May

Chapman (4-3) took the loss Wednesday against the A's, allowing a run on two hits in one-third of an inning.

Shea Langeliers led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double, the first hit given up by Chapman since July 23, a span of 14.2 innings. Langeliers would advance to third on a sacrifice fly before Chapman gave up a game-winning single to Lawrence Butler. Despite the hiccup Wednesday, it's been an incredible season for the 37-year-old Chapman, who sports a sparkling 1.14 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 81 strikeouts over 55.1 innings.

  • Phil Maton RP | CHC

Rangers' Phil Maton: Notches fourth save

Maton earned the save in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Brewers, striking out one without allowing a run over two-thirds of an inning.

After Shawn Armstrong walked Issac Collins with one out in the ninth, Maton was brought in to face the top of Milwaukee's batting order. The right-hander would strike out Brice Turnag before Jackson Chourio lined out, sealing the three-run Texas victory. It's the fourth save of the year for Maton and his first since August 5 -- he had blown his last three save chances while posting a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings prior to Wednesday, thus ceding the closing job to Armstrong. Overall, Maton's ERA sits at 2.95 this season with a 1.09 WHIP and 73 strikeouts across 55 innings between the Rangers and Cardinals.

  • Reid Detmers SP | LAA

Angels' Reid Detmers: Exits with trainer

Detmers was removed from Wednesday's game against the Twins with a forearm injury, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Detmers reportedly didn't like how the ball was coming out of his hand while on the mound Wednesday and felt something in his forearm, leading the Angels' training staff to pull the lefty after he gave up a double to James Outman in the eighth inning. The Halos should provide some clarity on the severity of Detmers' injury in the near future, but he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Nick Hernandez RP | HOU

Astros' Nick Hernandez: Summoned from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.

After a month-long stay at Triple-A, Hernandez will rejoin the Houston bullpen as a replacement on the active roster for right-hander Luis Garcia (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Over five relief appearances with the Astros this season, Hernandez has submitted a 5.40 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB in 6.2 innings.

  • Dan Altavilla RP | CHW

White Sox's Dan Altavilla: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

The White Sox designated Altavilla for assignment Wednesday.

Altavilla has managed a 2.48 ERA over 29 relief innings for the White Sox this season, but that's come with an uninspiring 21:15 K:BB. If the 33-year-old clears waivers, he would have the ability to elect free agency.

  • Chris Murphy RP | CHW

Red Sox's Chris Murphy: Demoted to minors

The Red Sox optioned Murphy to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.

Murphy pitched each of the previous two days, so he likely wouldn't have been available out of the bullpen for a day or two. He's being sent out in favor of Kyle Harrison, who was recalled from Triple-A and is expected to provide length out of the bullpen during Wednesday's series finale versus the Athletics.

  • Mitch Spence SP | ATH

Athletics' Mitch Spence: Joining big club

The Athletics recalled Spence from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

He'll join the 28-man active roster in place of right-hander Scott McGough, who was optioned to Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Spence had been working out of the rotation at Las Vegas following his July 10 demotion, turning in a 6.21 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB in 29 innings. The Athletics have a full rotation at the moment, so Spence looks like he'll be ticketed for a long-relief role for the time being. However, if Mason Barnett falters in his start Wednesday against the Red Sox, it wouldn't be surprising if Spence replaced him in the rotation the next time his turn comes up.

  • Scott McGough RP | ATH

Athletics' Scott McGough: Dispatched to Las Vegas

The Athletics optioned McGough to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

McGough's brief time with the Athletics didn't go well, as he was touched up for five runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings covering three relief appearances. He's being replaced on the active roster by Mitch Spence, who was recalled from Triple-A.

  • Rays' Brian Van Belle: Dealing with UCL sprain

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that Van Belle's right elbow injury is believed to be a UCL sprain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Before he was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Van Belle was initially placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday due to elbow inflammation. A recent MRI has revealed a sprain, and Van Belle now faces the possibility of requiring the second Tommy John surgery of his career. According to Cash, Van Belle plans to consult with Dr. Keith Meister over the next 3-to-4 weeks before a decision is made regarding whether he'll treat the injury through rest and rehab or undergo Tommy John surgery or another type of elbow procedure. Acquired from the Reds ahead of the trade deadline, Van Belle received his first call-up to the Rays on Aug. 22 and made four multi-inning relief appearances before landing on the shelf.

  • Royals' Hunter Harvey: Rehab slowing down

Harvey (groin) threw a live batting practice session Saturday but experienced soreness afterward, which has slowed his rehab, MLB.com reports.

Harvey's rehab from a Grade 2 right adductor strain, which has sidelined him since Aug. 11, has seemingly hit a setback. Since he was traded to the Royals in July 2024, injuries have been a recurring issue, limiting Harvey to just 12 appearances this season -- all scoreless. It's unclear whether this latest snag will prevent him from returning before season's end or if he can still make it back with the big-league club.
