Rays manager Kevin Cash said Patino (finger) threw a light side session Wednesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Tampa Bay will re-evaluate Patino on Thursday, and if the finger laceration on his throwing hand is no longer proving bothersome, he should return from the injured list for this weekend's two-game series versus the Phillies. The 21-year-old had been working as a starter prior to landing on the IL, but Tampa Bay could choose to reintegrate him in a bullpen role.

Garcia will rejoin the Yankees starting rotation this weekend against the Tigers, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

The 22-year-old has been at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the past month after making his lone big-league start of the season, but he'll rejoin New York this weekend in Detroit with Corey Kluber (shoulder) facing an extended absence. Garcia struggled in four starts at Triple-A with a 5.17 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 21:12 K:BB over 15.2 innings, but he'll now have a chance to solidify a rotation spot in the majors for the foreseeable future.

Baker (elbow) has tossed 8.2 scoreless innings across seven appearances for Triple-A Buffalo this season, notching two saves while striking out 13.

Baker missed a good chunk of spring training due to a Grade 1 right elbow strain, but he was cleared for game action ahead of the Triple-A season, which began earlier this month. The 26-year-old has looked good thus far in the closing role for Buffalo, converting both of his save opportunities and holding opposing hitters to a .133 average. If he continues to thrive in the late innings for Buffalo, he should earn his first MLB call-up later in 2021.

Puk (biceps) allowed four earned runs on four hits over 1.1 innings while also recording four strikeouts in Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Puk allowed a two-run home run to Brennon Lund in the sixth inning and then opened the seventh by putting a pair of runners on that eventually came around to score after the left-hander had exited. Puk has now allowed seven runs over two innings covering his last two rehab appearances, although his four strikeouts Tuesday were a bright spot. It appears likely Puk will make at least one more appearance for the Aviators in an attempt to have him return to the majors with some momentum.

Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The Angels haven't revealed a target date for Rodriguez's return from the 10-day injured list, but he'll likely need to make at least two appearances at Triple-A before getting activated. The hard-throwing right-hander has been on the shelf for the past three weeks with a sore shoulder.

Baumann (elbow) was activated from the injured list and sent to Double-A Bowie on Tuesday.

Baumann's appearance for Bowie lasted just two-thirds of an inning Tuesday, as he allowed four runs on two hits and a walk while also recording a strikeout and hitting a batter. The right-hander figures to get some more time at the Double-A level before potentially earning a promotion to Triple-A Norfolk later in the summer.

Akin will rejoin the starting rotation after Dean Kremer was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Kremer was initially listed as the starter Sunday's game against the White Sox, so Akin tentatively lines up to make his first start of the season in that contest. The southpaw has made four relief appearances to begin the year, posting a 6.10 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 10.1 innings.

Tate (hamstring) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Tate began a rehab assignment Tuesday and struck out one in a perfect relief inning for Triple-A Norfolk. He had been dealing with a left hamstring strain since early May and should reclaim his role as a middle reliever once he's officially activated.

Brentz pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out two to earn a hold in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.

Brentz has posted five scoreless innings across his last five outings. His hold Tuesday was his first since April 25 -- Kansas City endured a rough stretch of games earlier in May. Overall, the southpaw has a 2.61 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 23:13 K:BB, four holds and a win in 20.2 innings this season. He's been effective at keeping runs off the board, but a 4.05 FIP suggests he could face a bit of regression.

King covered three innings out of the bullpen Tuesday in the Yankees' 6-2 loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering one run on six hits and a walk while striking out three.

King tossed 54 pitches over the three-inning appearance, his longest outing since April 16. The Yankees needed King to eat innings after starter Corey Kluber covered only three frames before departing with right shoulder tightness. The Yankees will send Kluber in for an MRI on Wednesday to glean a better picture of the severity of his injury, leaving his availability in question for his next turn through the rotation Sunday in Detroit. King and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Deivi Garcia would appear to be the leading candidates to step into the rotation if Kluber isn't cleared for the weekend.
