Chafin snagged his first save of the season Tuesday night, striking out one in a scoreless inning of work to wrap up a 4-3 victory over Cleveland.

Summoned to protect a one-run lead in extra innings with a ghost runner behind him, Chafin needed just seven pitches to emerge from the high-leverage spot with his first save of the season. The self-described "failed starter" has been pretty dang successful since moving from the Cubs to the Athletics, as he has yet to allow a run or walk a batter in seven appearances with Oakland this season.

Wittgren (2-5) was charged with his fifth loss of the season Tuesday night after allowing one unearned run in one inning of work while walking one and striking out one in Cleveland's 4-3 loss to Oakland.

Wittgren was called upon to start the 10th inning against the Athletics on Tuesday night. With ghost runner Elvis Andrus lurking behind him, the right-hander got off to a good start with a strikeout of Mark Canha before Starling Marte moved Andrus over to third on a groundout. After Wittgren intentionally walked Matt Olson, Jed Lowrie came through with an RBI double to give Oakland the lead. Although Wittgren would limit the damage to one run, it was all the Athletics needed to secure the win. While the 30-year-old does sport an inflated 4.79 ERA, his 49:9 K:BB means he's at least finding the zone.

Trivino (5-4) picked up his fifth win of the season Tuesday night, working a scoreless inning while walking one in Oakland's 4-3 victory over Cleveland.

Trivino was called upon to protect a 3-3 tie in the ninth inning Tuesday night. After walking Owen Miller to start his outing, it was smooth sailing for the right-hander, as he would retire the next three batters he faced. Oakland scored the winning run in the 10th to snag the comeback victory. Trivino now hasn't allowed an earned run in six straight appearances and takes a sterling 1.84 ERA into play Wednesday.

Manaea allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts through 1.2 innings, taking a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Cleveland.

On an extremely humid night in Cleveland, Manaea struggled mightily with his command. Despite pulverizing the rosin bag in search of any iota of extra grip, the left-hander needed 69 pitches to get five outs and worked himself into five full counts. While this marks the second consecutive rough outing for the 29-year-old, the conditions played a huge part in Tuesday night's meltdown. Manaea and fantasy managers alike will be glad to know that his next start is expected to come in the climate-controlled confines of Globe Life Field against the lowly Rangers on Sunday.

Thornton was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to serve as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Angels, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Thornton served as the extra man for Saturday's twin bill against Boston but did not appear in either game before being sent back to Buffalo. The right-hander will once again join the Blue Jays' bullpen Tuesday in Anaheim before likely being sent back to Triple-A.

Manager Brandon Hyde said Harvey (lat) might return sometime between Thursday and next Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The righty has been sidelined since July 2 with a right lat strain, and he will need a bit of action with the Florida Complex League before being reinstated from the injured list. Once active, Harvey figures to once again be one of Baltimore's top late-innings relief options.

Scott (knee) will return from the injured list soon after throwing a bullpen session Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The lefty has been on the IL since Aug. 1 with a sprained left knee, but his throwing off a mound suggests the injury is mostly healed. Details about Scott's specific return date should become clear sometime this week.

Anderson (elbow) will join Triple-A Durham on Thursday to continue his rehab assignment, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

It's unclear how many outings the righty will require in Durham, but he's certainly one step closer to rejoining the Rays' bullpen. Anderson has not pitched for Tampa Bay this year due to a partially torn elbow ligament suffered in March.

Payamps was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Payamps was picked up in a trade for cash considerations in mid-July after being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays. He recorded a 2.70 ERA in 30 innings for Toronto before being cut loose, though that came with an unimpressive 4.20 FIP and 5.03 xFIP, as he struck out a modest 18.5 percent of opposing batters while walking 9.2 percent. Edward Olivares was optioned in a corresponding move.

Pearson (groin/illness) was delayed by a non-COVID illness but should join Triple-A Buffalo for rehab work by the end of the week, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

The illness appears to be nothing more than a minor obstacle in the oft-injured righty's road back to Toronto. It's unclear how much work Pearson will require in Buffalo, but considering he'll be a reliever for the rest of the season, he won't need to build up for long outings. More details about his timeline should become clear later in the week when he joins the Triple-A squad.
