Kowar allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings during Saturday's 13-1 loss to the Guardians.

Jonathan Heasley was blitzed in the first two innings, and Kowar didn't do much better, though he recorded the most outs of any Royals pitcher in the contest. With eight runs, 12 hits and eight walks in 10 innings across four appearances since his June 26 recall from Triple-A Omaha, Kowar hasn't looked very effective against major-league hitters. Daniel Lynch (finger) is expected to return from the injured list Monday, and it figures one of Heasley, Kowar or Kris Bubic is most likely to be headed back to Omaha to make room for him.

Rijo (elbow) has been activated from the 60-day injured list at High-A Cedar Rapids and transferred to the FCL Twins.

Rijo began the season on the injured list as he works his way back from right elbow UCL reconstruction. He's already made five rehab outings with the FCL Twins, throwing 11 scoreless innings with a 14:3 K:BB ratio. It's not clear exactly when he'll next pitch for Cedar Rapids.

Heasley (1-5) took the loss during Saturday's 13-1 defeat at the hands of the Guardians, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and a hit batter with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

Heasley didn't have his stuff working from the start and it showed as he surrendered two runs on four baserunners in the first inning and four runs on four baserunners (including one that reached on an error) in the second before being pulled. The 25-year-old has now permitted at least five runs in two of his last three starts, causing his ERA to inflate from a decent 4.14 to 5.50 during the three-game stretch. Heasley is currently scheduled to take the mound again midweek in a road start in Toronto.

Loaisiga (shoulder) threw a scoreless inning with one strikeout with Single-A Tampa on Saturday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Loaisiga threw 13 pitches without allowing a baserunner. His next rehab appearance will come at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. If things go well in that outing, it's possible he'll return prior to the All-Star break.

Brash was recalled by the Mariners on Saturday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Brash made the Mariners' Opening Day rotation and flashed impressive stuff at times, but he would up being demoted after struggling to a 7.65 ERA and 17.9 percent walk rate in five starts. He's pitched exclusively out of the bullpen in 26 innings for Triple-A Tacoma, where his 38.3 percent strikeout rate has been enough to offset a 13.1 percent walk rate, leading to a 3.46 ERA. He should continue to pitch in relief for the big-league club.

Giles was placed on the 15-day injured list due to tightness behind his right shoulder, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Giles suffered the injury during Friday's win over the Blue Jays and was quickly placed on the injured list. He's managed just eight innings since the 2019 season due to a combination of Tommy John surgery, a finger sprain and now his most recent issue. There's no timetable for Giles' return, though he'll be sidelined until at least late July.

Swanson was placed on the paternity list Saturday, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Swanson will be away from the team for a few days to be with his infant daughter. He'll likely return Tuesday against the Nationals. Matt Brash and Matt Festa were recalled Saturday to replace Swanson and Ken Giles, who landed on the injured list with shoulder tightness.

Weber was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Weber was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Wednesday but will remain in the organization after he went unclaimed on waivers. He's posted a 2.55 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 24.2 innings over nine appearances (five starts) in the minors this year.

Mushinski (elbow) will make his second rehab appearance at Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Mushinski made his first rehab appearance Wednesday and allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while failing to record an out. He'll attempt to record better results during Saturday's outing, and it's possible that he'll rejoin the Astros' bullpen sometime next week.

Loaisiga (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Single-A Tampa on Saturday.

Shoulder issues have kept Loaisiga on the sidelines since late May. An absence that long likely requires a lengthy rehab assignment, though the Yankees haven't provided a specific timetable for his return.
