  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: Nearing rehab assignment

Bautista (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment within the next week, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. Coming back from surgery to repair his right labrum and rotator cuff, Bautista has reportedly looked impressive as he ramps up a a throwing program, and he's nearly ready to try things out in games. The reliever's rehab assignment will be a lengthy one, but he could be ready to rejoin the Orioles' bullpen by early September.

  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: Could begin rehab stint in late August

Bautista (shoulder) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment in late August, per MLB.com. Bautista has been facing live hitters, with his most recent session coming Saturday. The right-hander is working his way back from shoulder surgery, which he underwent last August, and it sounds like he has a real chance to make his season debut at some point in September. With Ryan Helsley's (elbow) timeline for a return still uncertain, Bautista could rejoin Baltimore's bullpen before Helsley.

  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: Throws live BP

Bautista (shoulder) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Bautista is still working his way back from labrum and rotator cuff surgery and has a chance to make his 2026 debut toward the tail end of the season. The 31-year-old has pitched in just 35 games since the end of the 2023 campaign.

  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: Facing hitters next week

Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Friday that Bautista (shoulder) will throw a live batting practice session next week, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Bautista is coming back from right labrum and rotator cuff surgery. The Orioles have not ruled out a late-season return for the reliever, and progressing to facing hitters in early August seemingly gives him a chance to make it back this year. More clarity on Bautista's timeline should arise in the coming weeks.

  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: Placed on 60-day IL

The Orioles placed Bautista (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Friday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. The move opens a 40-man roster spot for Bryan Ramos, who was claimed off waivers in a corresponding move. Bautista underwent right shoulder surgery in August of 2025 and may not even pitch during the 2026 campaign, as the Orioles have no plans to rush the hard-throwing right-hander after signing Ryan Helsley during the offseason.

  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: No rush to pitch in 2026

The Orioles aren't going to push Bautista (shoulder) to pitch in 2026, per MLB.com. The hard-throwing right-hander is progressing well from right shoulder surgery in August of 2025 to repair a torn rotator cuff and torn labrum, but Baltimore has no intentions to rush Bautista back into the fray. His throwing progression will be worth monitoring, but the expectation remains that Bautista won't be much of a fantasy factor in 2026, if at all. Ryan Helsley signed a two-year contract with the O's in November and is all set to start the new season with a big opportunity to bounce back as the club's top closer, after limping to a 7.20 ERA through 20 regular-season innings with the Mets to finish last year.

Bautista and the Orioles avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.25 million contract Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Prior to the injury, Bautista appeared in 35 games for the Orioles, converting 19 of 20 save opportunities while posting a 2.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:23 K:BB across 34.2 innings.

  • Orioles' Felix Bautista: Facing extended absence

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Monday that Bautista is going to be "out a while" after an MRI showed significant swelling in the pitcher's right shoulder, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. The silver lining is that Bautista does not have any structural damage. However, with the amount of inflammation in his shoulder, he's looking at an absence that will last weeks, not days. With the Orioles not in playoff contention, it's fair to wonder how much of a contribution, if any, he will make the rest of this season. Seranthony Dominguez is the current favorite to see the bulk of the save chances for Baltimore down the stretch, though he is a possibility to be traded.

Bautista gave up a run on one hit and two walks in the ninth inning Wednesday to blow his first save of the season in an 8-4 extra-innings win over the Brewers. He struck out one. With the Orioles nursing a 3-2 lead, Bautista came in and fanned Rhys Hoskins to begin the ninth, but walks to Sal Frelick and Jake Bauers set up Caleb Durbin to slap a game-tying single into right field. Bautista has now been tagged for at least one run in four straight appearances while posting a 3:5 K:BB in 3.2 innings, and the rough stretch has sent his ERA soaring from 1.64 to 4.30. There's been no indication that the right-hander's spot as Baltimore's closer is in jeopardy, but Andrew Kittredge's return from the IL on Wednesday gives new manager Tony Mansolino another high-leverage option to turn to if he decides to make a change.
