Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Absent from Tuesday's lineup

Raleigh is not in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday versus the Athletics.

Raleigh had a three-game hit streak but will begin Tuesday's matchup from the bench. In his place, Mitch Garver starts behind the plate and Mitch Haniger is the DH.

  • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Sent to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Pereda to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was called up by the Marlins but will return to Triple-A now that Christian Bethancourt is back from the bereavement list. Pereda is 0-for-5 in his five big-league games this season but has an .804 OPS in 83 plate appearances for Jacksonville.

  • Marlins' Christian Bethancourt: Back with team

Bethancourt was reinstated from the bereavement list Tuesday.

As planned, Bethancourt rejoins the Marlins after a three-game absence. Jhonny Pereda will be sent back to Triple-A Jacksonville. Bethancourt is slashing .162/.208/.250 while splitting catching duties with Nick Fortes.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

    Yankees' Austin Wells: Idle Tuesday

Wells is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Minnesota.

Wells won't start Tuesday's game despite the Twins trotting out a right-handed pitcher. Instead, Jose Trevino will catch and bat eighth.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Absent from lineup

Jeffers is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Yankees.

It looks to be a routine day off for Jeffers, who is just two off his career high with 12 home runs this season. Christian Vazquez will do the catching for Bailey Ober on Tuesday.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Sitting against RHP

Naylor is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Kansas City.

For the first time since May 19, Naylor won't be part of Cleveland's lineup against a right-handed pitcher Tuesday, marking the catcher's fourth absence in the last five games. With David Fry swinging one of the best bats in baseball and Naylor batting .164 in May , Naylor could bleed more playing time if he doesn't turn it around at the plate.

  • Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Idle Tuesday

Grandal is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

Grandal hasn't generated multiple hits in a game since May 17 and has two hits in his last 20 at-bats. Henry Davis will bat eighth and catch for Jared Jones.

  • Grant Koch C | PIT

Pirates' Grant Koch: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

The Pirates designated Koch for assignment Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Koch served as the Pirates' backup catcher for a few days but is being removed from both their 26-man and 40-man rosters as Henry Davis returns. He'll likely clear waivers and remain in the organization.

  • Henry Davis RF | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Back in majors, will start Tuesday

The Pirates recalled Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Manager Derek Shelton confirmed that Davis will draw the start at catcher Tuesday against the Dodgers in the 24-year-old's return to the big leagues. He should ultimately split starts behind the dish with veteran Yasmani Grandal. Davis was optioned in early May after a dreadful start to the season, but he rebounded at Indianapolis by slashing .296/.436/.642 with seven home runs in 23 contests.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Joins hit parade in Colorado

Stephenson went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored in Monday's 13-3 win over the Rockies.

The Reds busted out in a big way in Colorado, setting new season highs in hits and runs. Stephenson's teammates did most of the damage before the catcher finished the rout with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. It was his sixth home run of the season and first in 13 games.
