Reds' Luke Maile: Out with bruised hand

Maile (hand) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Twins.

Maile hasn't appeared in a game since Friday due to a bruised left hand, but X-rays taken Saturday turned up clean and he should be available off the bench Tuesday versus Minnesota. Tyler Stephenson is starting at catcher for the Reds and batting fifth.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Another breather Tuesday

Murphy is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.

Murphy continues to get regular days of rest as the NL East champions look ahead to the postseason. Travis d'Arnaud will catch Spencer Strider and bat sixth Tuesday versus Philadelphia.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Homers for only run in win

Contreras went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 1-0 win over the Brewers.

Contreras has gone 13-for-28 (.464) with four homers and 12 RBI during his active eight-game hitting streak. The catcher's fourth-inning blast Monday accounted for the lone run in the contest, and it was the Cardinals' only extra-base hit. Contreras has reached the 20-homer mark for the fifth time in his eight-year career, and he's added 67 RBI, 55 runs scored, six stolen bases and a .265/.358/.469 slash line over 124 contests.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Three-run blast in win

Campusano went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 11-9 win over the Rockies.

Campusano has provided at least one RBI in eight of his last 11 games, knocking in 14 runs over that span. The catcher's third-inning blast put the Padres ahead for good in this contest. He's up to seven long balls, 29 RBI, 26 runs scored and six doubles while slashing .307/.344/.487 through 45 contests. He should continue to see a majority of the playing time behind the dish for the remainder of the season.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Sitting Monday

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Miami.

Alvarez appears to be receiving a routine day off after he started behind the dish in the final two games of the Mets' weekend series with the Reds while going 3-for-10 with two doubles and three RBI. Omar Narvaez will get the starting nod at catcher Monday.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

    Reds' Luke Maile: X-rays negative

Maile (hand) underwent X-rays Saturday which came back negative, MLB.com reports.

With the X-rays confirming Maile has nothing more serious than a bruised hand, the catcher was available Sunday but did not appear in an 8-4 loss to the Mets.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Scores four runs

Fortes went 4-for-5 with a solo homer, two doubles and four runs scored in Sunday's win over Atlanta.

Fortes capped off his first career four-hit performance with a solo shot in the eighth inning. Prior to Sunday's massive game, he had just four hits over his previous 17 appearances. It was also his first multi-hit game since July 23. Fortes is now slashing .210/.265/.308 with 15 extra-base hits and 31 runs scored through 300 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Hits homer in Sunday's win

Barnes went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Mariners.

Barnes has gone 4-for-21 (.190) across six games in September, though the catcher may get some more time over Will Smith since the Dodgers clinched the NL West on Saturday. For the year, Barnes has two homers, 11 RBI, 11 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .171/.238/.232 slash line through 182 plate appearances. He will likely be a clear backup once the postseason begins.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

    Cubs' Yan Gomes: Breather Sunday

Gomes is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus the Diamondbacks.

Gomes will get a breather after he caught all 13 innings in the Cubs' 7-6 loss to Arizona on Saturday. Miguel Amaya will take over behind the plate and bat ninth in the series finale.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Takes seat Sunday

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Seattle.

Smith will receive Sunday off after Los Angeles clinched the NL West title Saturday. Austin Barnes will work behind the plate and bat ninth.
