Adrian Del Castillo DH | ARI
Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Idle against lefty
Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
The lefty-hitting Del Castillo will hit the bench for the third time in four games, with each of those absences coming against left-handed pitchers. The rookie backstop still appears to be locked into the strong side of a platoon with Jose Herrera while top catcher Gabriel Moreno (adductor) is on the injured list.

Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Receiving rest Sunday
Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Austin Barnes will spell Smith behind the dish after the latter catcher started in both of the first two games of the series. Despite banging out two hits in Saturday's 8-6 win, Smith still endured a tough August, slashing just .194/.298/.319 with two home runs, 10 RBI and 12 runs on the month.

Blake Sabol C | BOS
Giants' Blake Sabol: Summoned from Triple-A
The Giants recalled Sabol from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.
The addition of Sabol gives the Giants a third catcher behind Patrick Bailey and Curt Casali who's also capable of filling in at first base or in the corner outfield in a pinch. Sabol spent the entire 2023 season on the Giants' roster as a Rule 5 selection, but he's logged just 38 plate appearances over 11 games with the big club in 2024.

Patrick Bailey C | SF
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Getting rest Sunday
Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.
Bailey will get a breather for the day game after he had started at catcher in each of the Giants' three contests while going 1-for-11 with four strikeouts following his return from the injured list Thursday. Curt Casali will check in for Bailey behind the plate.

Ali Sanchez C | BOS
Marlins' Ali Sanchez: Taking seat Sunday
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Sanchez had started in each of the Marlins' previous three matchups with right-handed starters, but he'll cede catching duties to Nick Fortes in the series finale while the Giants send right-hander Logan Webb to the hill. Sanchez and Fortes will likely continue to operate in a timeshare down the stretch, and the Marlins' catching picture could become even murkier with Miami using one of its two September call-ups on a third backstop in Jhonny Pereda.

Jhonny Pereda C | MIN
Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Receives promotion
The Marlins recalled Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Pereda will provide the Marlins with a third catcher behind Nick Fortes and Ali Sanchez for the final month of the season. Over his 199 plate appearances with Jacksonville in 2024, Pereda has slashed .302/.407/.444 with five home runs.

Luis Torrens C | NYM
Mets' Luis Torrens: Drawing start Sunday
Torrens will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the White Sox.
With top backstop Francisco Alvarez receiving a routine maintenance day, Torrens will step in behind the dish. Since being acquired from the Yankees on May 31, Torrens has appeared in 35 games (28 starts) for the Mets, logging a .250/.311/.406 slash line with three home runs, 15 RBI and 13 runs.

Elias Diaz C | SD
Padres' Elias Diaz: Gets call-up
The Padres selected Diaz's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
The 33-year-old joined the Padres on a minor-league contract Aug. 26 and will join the big club Sunday as MLB rosters expand to 28 players. Diaz may not receive consistent playing time, and he should serve as the backup to Luis Campusano on Sunday as Kyle Higashioka manages flu-like symptoms.

Yasmani Grandal C | PIT
Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Taking seat Sunday
Grandal is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Grandal will hit the bench for a second straight day as the Pirates give youngster Henry Davis another turn behind the dish. The two will likely be deployed in a fairly even timeshare behind the plate during the final month of the season.
