  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Optioned to Tacoma

The Mariners demoted Pereda to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. Pereda will head back down to Triple-A Tacoma in direct response to Cal Raleigh being activated off of the 10-day injured list. Pereda has slashed .270/.324/.365 with two homers and four RBI in 63 plate appearances with Seattle this season. The Mariners will now carry Cal Raleigh and Mitch Garver as backstops.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Idle Saturday

Pereda isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals. Pereda has notched a base hit in each of his last nine games but will cede a start Saturday to Mitch Garver, who will bat eighth while catching for Luis Castillo.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Sitting in second straight game

Pereda is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. After making three consecutive starts at catcher, Pereda now finds himself on the bench for the second straight day while the Mariners go with Mitch Garver behind the plate. Pereda has produced a .750 OPS over 14 games since being called up from Triple-A Tacoma on May 14, but his run as Seattle's preferred option at catcher will soon come to an end with Cal Raleigh (oblique) in the midst of a rehab assignment and likely to be activated from the injured list at the beginning of next week.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Belts three-run homer

Pereda went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Mets. Pereda logged his second straight multi-hit effort with this performance, which included a key homer in the fifth inning. The catcher is now hitting .263 with a .754 OPS, two homers, four RBI and six runs scored over 42 plate appearances. Pereda and Mitch Garver continue to split time behind the dish while the Mariners wait for Cal Raleigh (oblique) to return.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Smacks first MLB homer

Pereda went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the White Sox. Making just his sixth start this season, Pereda led off the seventh inning with a 392-foot blast off Sean Newcomb, his first major-league home run, to put the Mariners ahead 3-2. While the 30-year-old Pereda has been used sparingly in the majors, he swung the bat well with Triple-A Tacoma this year, slashing .321/.414/.417 with a pair of homers across 25 games. Pereda should continue to back up Mitch Garver while Cal Raleigh (oblique) is sidelined.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Back to majors

Seattle recalled Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday. Pereda is back with the big-league club after being optioned to Tacoma on Friday. The 30-year-old's quick return is due to Cal Raleigh's (oblique) placement on the IL. Although Pereda recorded just five plate appearances in his first Mariners stint, but he should be in line for more action this time around as he splits time behind the plate with Mitch Garver while Raleigh is sidelined.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Pereda to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Pereda was up as a third catcher while Cal Raleigh was banged up, picking up two hits in five plate appearances. With Raleigh available to catch again, Pereda is heading back to the minors.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Recalled by Seattle

The Mariners recalled Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. Pereda was unable to crack the Mariners' Opening Day roster but has played well in Triple-A, where he is slashing .333/.418/.436 with two home runs and eight RBI across 91 plate appearances. The move gives the Mariners a third catcher on the 26-man roster, which is notable after Cal Raleigh was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Royals due to undisclosed reasons. Will Wilson (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Mariners' Jhonny Pereda: Traded to Seattle

The Twins traded Pereda to the Mariners on Tuesday in exchange for cash. The Twins DFA'd Pereda on Friday after signing Victor Caratini, but the former will reclaim a 40-man roster spot now that he's been dealt to the M's. He won't take playing time away from Cal Raleigh, but Pereda could provide some quality organizational depth after slashing .308/.422/.465 across 192 Triple-A plate appearances last year.

  • Twins' Jhonny Pereda: Designated for assignment

The Twins designated Pereda for assignment Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. The 29-year-old backstop will be replaced on Minnesota's 40-man roster by Victor Caratini, whose signing became official Friday. Pereda slashed .246/.325/.333 in 2025 across 78 MLB plate appearances split between the Athletics and Twins. However, he finished the minor-league season with an .887 OPS across 192 plate appearances at Triple-A, which could be enough for another team to pick him up off waivers.

  • Twins' Jhonny Pereda: Optioned with Jeffers back

The Twins optioned Pereda to their spring training complex Tuesday. With Ryan Jeffers back from his stay on the 7-day IL due to a concussion, Pereda loses his spot on the 26-man roster. Pereda has appeared in 11 games for the Twins this season, slashing .345/.387/.483 with four doubles, one RBI, one run scored and a 2:8 BB:K across 32 plate appearances.

  • Twins' Jhonny Pereda: Making third start in four games

Pereda will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Yankees. With Ryan Jeffers (concussion) recently joining Christian Vazquez (shoulder) on the injured list, Pereda and Mickey Gasper are left standing as the Twins' lone healthy catchers. Pereda appears to have tentatively emerged as the preferred option of the two, as he'll be drawing his third start in four games Monday. Since being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Sept. 5, Pereda has gone 6-for-15 with two doubles, two walks and one RBI over six games.

  • Twins' Jhonny Pereda: Back in bigs

The Twins recalled Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Pereda joins the active roster for the first time since being optioned Aug. 12, replacing DaShawn Keirsey. Pereda will provide some catching depth behind Ryan Jeffers (head), who was removed from Thursday's game after taking a foul tip to the mask. If Jeffers is forced to miss time, Pereda and Mickey Gasper would handle catcher duties.

The Athletics designated Pereda for assignment Saturday, Jason Burke of SI.com reports. Pereda has appeared in 19 games for the Athletics this season, slashing .175/.283/.225 with no homers and three RBI over 46 plate appearances. He's fared better in the minors with an .840 OPS for Triple-A Las Vegas, but the A's needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for pitcher Ken Waldichuk (elbow), who was activated off the 60-day IL and optioned to Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Removed from 40-man roster

The Marlins designated Pereda for assignment Tuesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Connor Gillispie. Pereda, 28, made his major-league debut in 2024, posting a .481 OPS over 20 contests. The catcher could clear waivers and remain in the organization.

The Marlins recalled Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. • Reds' Jhonny Pereda: Invited to Reds camp

Pereda signed a minor-league deal with the Reds on Tuesday and received an invitation to spring training. The 26-year-old backstop spent all of 2022 in the Giants organization at the Triple-A level, where he slashed .272/.371/.379 over 246 plate appearances -- all significant improvements from his 2021 campaign. If he can impress in spring training, Pereda will have an outside chance at making the 26-man roster as a backup catcher, but he would have to beat out Luke Maile and Chuckie Robinson for that to happen.
