  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

    Pirates' Kevin Newman: Remains sidelined

Newman (undisclosed) remains on the bench Friday against the Mets.

Newman left Wednesday's game against the Reds with an apparent injury after crashing into the wall while chasing a foul ball. He didn't take part in Thursday's contest and won't be involved from the start Friday, either. He hasn't been an everyday player, so there's no guarantee he's nursing an injury, but his consecutive absences make that likely.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Phillies' Nick Maton: Gets day off Friday

Maton isn't starting Friday against Atlanta.

Maton will get a day off Friday after going 3-for-11 with two homers over his last five games. Matt Vierling will take over in right field and bat seventh.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Lands on injured list

Sosa (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right hamstring, Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

After being removed from Thursday's loss to Miami while walking with a noticeable limp, Sosa was officially diagnosed with a strained hamstring Friday. No timetable has been put in place for his recovery, but a return in the minimum 10 days would allow him to see action again before the end of the season.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Records fifth steal

Arenado went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Reds.

Arenado has exactly one hit in each of his last five games, and he's added six RBI, a steal and two runs scored in that span. The third baseman is hitting a light .200 through 12 games in September, but that's done little damage to his season slash line of .298/.359/.550 through 133 contests. He's added 29 home runs, five steals, 96 RBI and 69 runs scored.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Takes seat Friday

Wisdom isn't in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.

Wisdom is getting a day off after he started the last three games and went 1-for-12 with an RBI and five strikeouts. Jared Young will start at first base and bat sixth during his major-league debut.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Launches solo homer

Rivera went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-0 win over San Diego.

Rivera and Ketel Marte both homered in the fourth inning, which was enough for Arizona. It was Rivera's sixth home run in 30 games with the Diamondbacks. He's typically in the lineup against left-handers, a role which fits his profile considering his .882 OPS against LHP this season compared to a .651 OPS against righties.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Connects for four hits

Moncada went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored Thursday against the Guardians.

Moncada was one of five White Sox hitters to go yard Thursday, and he tallied his 10th long ball of the season. He's had a few big performances since returning from the injured list Sept. 6, helping him collect 13 hits across 36 at-bats with three homers, six RBI and seven runs scored. Despite some recent signs of life at the plate, Moncada is still hitting only .215/.282/.352 across 363 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Smacks 19th homer

Paredes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Paredes has become a regular in the Rays' lineup once again due to the absence of Brandon Lowe (back). He's collected at least one hit in each of his last three starts, and Thursday's performance was highlighted by a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning and an RBI single two frames later. Paredes now has 19 homers on the season while hitting .219/.302/.465 across 325 plate appearances.

  • Marlins' Jordan Groshans: Smacks first career homer

Groshans went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the Phillies.

Groshans took Noah Syndergaard yard in the third inning to record his first career big-league home run. In addition to a career milestone, Groshans' power production is notable as he had managed only 18 extra-base hits across 412 plate appearances at Triple-A this season. In a very small big-league sample, Groshans has collected four hits in 10 plate appearances.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Dealing with hamstring issue

Sosa was removed from Thursday's loss to the Marlins with right hamstring tightness, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Sosa went 0-for-2 with a strikeout prior to his exit due to the injury. The specifics of the issue remain unclear, and the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until his status is updated.
