  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Workouts continue

Chapman (finger) took groundballs, threw to bases and hit in the batting cage Monday, Ethan Diamandas of SI.com reports.

Chapman has been performing baseball activities for a few days, and he will repeat Monday's workout Tuesday. The report add that "it's about pain tolerance at this point" for Chapman, but he won't return from the 10-day injured list "until he can comfortably hit" against a high-velocity pitching machine.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Brewers' Josh Donaldson: Gets call to Milwaukee

The Brewers selected Donaldson's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Monday. He'll start at third base and bat fifth in the Brewers' series opener with the Marlins.

Milwaukee transferred reliever J.C. Mejia (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL to clear room on the 40-man roster for Donaldson, who went 3-for-17 with two home runs and five walks in five games for Nashville after inking a minor-league deal with the Brewers on Aug. 31. Prior to catching on with Milwaukee, Donaldson hit .142 with 10 home runs in 120 plate appearances for the Yankees before landing on the injured list July 16 with a right calf strain and then getting cut loose in late August when he completed a minor-league rehab assignment. Donaldson will likely be ticketed for a short-side platoon role at either designated hitter or third base initially, but the 37-year-old could earn more opportunities against right-handed pitching if he fares well in his initial action with Milwaukee.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: On bench again Monday

Peraza is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Peraza has played regularly since rejoining the Yankees in late August, but he will be held out for a second day in a row with manager Aaron Boone turning to his left-handed hitters against Boston righty Kutter Crawford.

  • Carter Kieboom 3B | CLE

Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Sitting against right-hander

Kieboom is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Kieboom will take a seat for the second time in three days while the Nationals make room at third base for Ildemaro Vargas. With Kieboom turning in a modest .610 OPS in 15 games since his call-up from Triple-A Rochester in late August and with the switch-hitting Vargas offering a potential strong-side platoon option, Kieboom could see his opportunities against right-handed pitching take a hit as the season winds down.

  • Eguy Rosario 3B | SD

Padres' Eguy Rosario: Hits first big-league homer

Rosario went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to Houston.

Rosario accounted for one of two San Diego runs in the contest with his 409-foot solo shot in the seventh inning. It was the first major-league homer for the 24-year-old, who went deep five times over 43 games with Triple-A El Paso before being called up last Friday. Rosario homered 22 times and stole 21 bases across 124 contests in Triple-A last season. He could get a decent look down the stretch with the Padres fading further out of contention for a playoff spot.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Will return Monday

Moncada (knee) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.

Moncada aggravated a knee injury Saturday and was held out Sunday, but that was apparently all he needed to put the issue behind him. He will man the hot corner and hit fifth Monday night.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Returns to bench

Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Since being acquired from Oakland on July 31, Peterson has mostly served as a strong-side platoon option at third base, but he'll likely have to settle for more of a utility role moving forward. With both second baseman Ketel Marte (knee) and shortstop Jordan Lawlar (hand) back in the lineup Monday after one-game absences, Peterson will retreat to the bench after he manned the keystone Sunday. Geraldo Perdomo has seemingly supplanted Peterson as the Diamondbacks' preferred option at third base.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Multi-hit effort in loss

Diaz went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a double in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

Diaz produced his first multi-hit effort since Sept. 1, the last game before he fell into a 3-for-20, seven-game funk. The rookie snapped out of it to an extent Sunday with a performance that included his fourth extra-base hit and RBI of September. Diaz did whiff two more times, however, pushing his strikeout rate to 36.7 percent since the start of the month.

  • Edmundo Sosa 3B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Sits for Game 1 of twin bill

Sosa is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader with Atlanta, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Sosa went 4-for-18 with a home run, a stolen base, two RBI and three runs while making five starts in the Phillies' past seven games, but he'll be back on the bench for the first game of Monday's twin bill. Despite the uptick in playing time of late, Sosa still looks to be viewed as a utility man and doesn't have a direct path to an everyday spot in the lineup.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Giants' J.D. Davis: Not starting Sunday

Davis isn't in the lineup for Sunday's game against Colorado, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Davis has been hot recently, going 7-for-17 with two homers, three doubles, five runs and four RBI over the last four matchups. However, he'll get a breather Sunday with Wilmer Flores starting at third base.
