  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Three homers in spring

Ramirez has gone 6-for-33 (.182) with three home runs over 12 Cactus League games.

Ramirez is as much of a lock as anyone in the Guardians' lineup, with the third baseman expected to hit either second or third most of the time. While he hasn't hit well in spring, there's no reason to worry about his playing time -- he should be an everyday player between the hot corner and designated hitter.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Takes live BP

Jung (calf) is scheduled to take live batting practice Monday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

If Jung's strained left calf responds well to Monday's workout, manager Bruce Bochy said that the third baseman could be available to serve as a designated hitter in an "A" game at minor-league camp this weekend. Bochy has previously noted that Jung is trending toward a return to the big club's lineup for either or both of its final two exhibitions next Monday and Tuesday versus the Red Sox. If Jung is able to play the field for either of those contests without incident, he should avoid a stint on the injured list to begin the 2024 season.

  • Josh Harrison 3B | CIN

    Josh Harrison: Exercises opt-out

Harrison was released by the Reds on Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Harrison was told he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster and exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract rather than reporting to Triple-A Louisville. The veteran utility player will now look to latch on elsewhere, although he might have a difficult time finding a major-league deal coming off an age-35 campaign in which he posted a .554 OPS over 114 plate appearances with the Phillies.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Plays nine innings in exhibition

Muncy (illness) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Monday in the Dodgers' 5-2 exhibition win over the South Korean national team in Seoul, South Korea.

In the Dodgers' final tuneup before their regular-season opener Wednesday versus the Padres in Seoul, Muncy played nine innings at third base while slotting in as the No. 5 hitter in what appeared to be manager Dave Roberts' preferred lineup configuration versus right-handed pitching. Muncy had missed some workouts last week in Arizona while battling an illness, but his ability to join the Dodgers for the trip to South Korea and play nine innings Monday sets the stage for him to be included in the lineup for both contests of the season-opening series against the Padres this week.

  • Athletics' Armando Alvarez: Headed to minor-league camp

The Athletics reassigned Alvarez to minor-league camp Sunday.

Despite making an impression with his bat, Alvarez remained a longshot to break camp with the Athletics. The infielder has been a career minor leaguer but has had several impressive Triple-A stints going back to 2019. Despite this, he has yet to log an at-bat in the majors.

  • Joe Perez 3B | PIT

Pirates' Joe Perez: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Pirates reassigned Perez to minor-league camp Sunday.

Perez signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates in the middle of the 2023 season. At the Triple-A level in 2023, he posted am OPS of .737 with 13 home runs.

  • Pirates' Sergio Alcantara: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Pirates reassigned Alcantara to minor-league camp Sunday.

Over 98 games for the Triple-A affiliates of the Cubs and Diamondbacks in 2023, Alcantara posted a .776 OPS. The 27-year-old has posted a .687 OPS through 192 games in the majors across three seasons.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Managing back issue

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that Wisdom, who hasn't seen game action since Wednesday, is dealing with a back injury, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

It's not believed to be a serious injury, however, with Wisdom expected to rejoin the Cactus League lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The 32-year-old also missed time early in camp due to quadriceps tightness, but he's hit well when available, going 6-for-16 with two homers in six spring games.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Gets X-rays on left foot

LeMahieu fouled a ball off his left foot during Saturday's Grapefruit League game against Toronto and received X-rays that came back clean after the contest, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Per manager Aaron Boone, LeMahieu will get treatment on the injured foot in Tampa on Sunday. While X-rays Saturday came back negative, it's uncertain if the issue will result in LeMahieu missing any time at the start of the regular season. If that were to be the case, Oswaldo Cabrera could be called upon to step into the starting lineup at third base.

  • Andre Lipcius 3B | CHW

Dodgers' Andre Lipcius: Designated for assignment

The Dodgers designated Lipcius for assignment Saturday, J.P. Hoornstra of DodgersNation.com reports.

He's the 40-man roster casualty as the Dodgers freed up a spot for Daniel Hudson. It's the second time in a little over two weeks that Lipcius has been designated for assignment, as the Tigers flipped him to the Dodgers in a trade shortly after removing him from their 40-man roster.
