Harris owns an .849 OPS across 319 plate appearances in the minors this season but has gone just 1-for-9 at the plate since joining the Giants organization Thursday. He'll now join the parent club to supply San Francisco with additional infield depth, replacing Zach Morgan.

Harris will lose his place on the active roster to make room for Eduardo Rivera, who is expected to start Saturday's game against the Mets. Harris went 0-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch during his lone appearance after getting called up to Boston on Thursday and has gone just 3-for-18 at Worcester since joining the organization June 30. Harris was acquired from the Athletics late last month and will now join the Red Sox after he slashed .336/.441/.537 across 178 plate appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas prior to being dealt to Boston nine days ago. The veteran has less success in a much smaller sample at Worcester, however, producing a .167 average and .583 OPS in 20 plate appearances.

The Athletics removed Harris from their 40-man roster last weekend, despite the fact that he slashed .336/.441/.537 with five home runs over 178 plate appearances at Triple-A Las Vegas. The Red Sox were willing to make room on their roster for Harris, who could have a chance to contribute in the big leagues at some point in the near future while the club has contended with multiple injuries in the infield. It's not clear exactly when Harris hurt his thumb, nor is it known the specific type of procedure he had. Harris is expected to be ready to go for the beginning of spring training, and assuming that happens he'll enter camp with a chance to win a starting job in the Athletics' infield. The 27-year-old slashed .274/.349/.342 with zero home runs over 84 plate appearances during his time with the big club in 2025.
