  • Red Sox's Brett Harris: Shipped to Boston

The Red Sox acquired Harris from the Athletics on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Ben Hansen, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. The Athletics removed Harris from their 40-man roster last weekend, despite the fact that he slashed .336/.441/.537 with five home runs over 178 plate appearances at Triple-A Las Vegas. The Red Sox were willing to make room on their roster for Harris, who could have a chance to contribute in the big leagues at some point in the near future while the club has contended with multiple injuries in the infield. He'll report to Triple-A Worcester to begin his time in his new organization, however.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: DFA'd by Athletics

The A's designated Harris for assignment on Saturday. Harris, who has been with Triple-A Las Vegas since May 12, has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old recorded just six plate appearances for the big-league club this season, but with Las Vegas, he slashed .336/.441/.537 with five homers and 34 RBI in 178 plate appearances. The Athletics designated Harris in order to make roster room for their new acquisition, Hayden Juenger.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Joining big club

The A's recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. The 27-year-old will get his first chance in the big leagues this season as Max Muncy (hand) lands on the injured list. Harris had a .274/.349/.342 slash line in 32 MLB games last season and isn't likely to fill a significant role while up with the Athletics.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Bound for Las Vegas

The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Harris spent part of the offseason recovering from thumb surgery, but he returned to full health for the start of spring training. The 27-year-old probably needed a big showing in Cactus League play to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster, and his .584 OPS over 26 plate appearances ultimately didn't cut it. Harris is likely to handle an everyday role in the corner infield at Las Vegas.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Out of Friday's lineup

Harris is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Pittsburgh. After starting three straight games at third base earlier this week, Harris has now been held out of the lineup in back-to-back contests. Darell Hernaiz will play the hot corner and Zack Gelof will handle second base in Friday's series opener. Harris and Gelof could continue to form a quasi-platoon down the stretch, though it will be difficult to know ahead of time which of the two of them is going to start since they both bat from the right side of the plate.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Making third straight start

Harris will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Harris will be included in the starting nine for the third contest in a row after going 5-for-7 with a double over his previous two games. The Athletics appear set to give Harris another look as their everyday third baseman, allowing Darell Hernaiz to shift over to second base in place of the slumping Zack Gelof, who will hit the bench for the third game in a row after striking out at a 36.4 percent clip since the beginning of September.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Losing out on playing time

Harris is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. Harris had been seeing fairly steady playing time at third base following his call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 15, but he appears to have faded into a reserve role in the wake of fellow infielder Zack Gelof getting a promotion last Monday. With Gelof starting at second base in all seven of the Athletics' games since his call-up, Darell Hernaiz has shifted over to third base on a more frequent basis.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Riding pine Saturday

Harris isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers. Harris will miss a second consecutive start since going 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored during Wednesday's game against Detroit. Darell Hernaiz will get the nod at third base instead and bat eighth.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Claiming third straight start

Harris will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Angels. After going 2-for-6 with two walks, two runs and an RBI in the first two contests of the series, Harris will remain in the lineup for a third straight game since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. So long as he continues to deliver productive at-bats, Harris will likely hold down the fort at third base until Max Muncy (hand) is cleared to return from the injured list.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Returns from IL

Harris (undisclosed) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored Saturday in his return to the Triple-A Las Vegas lineup after being activated from the 7-day injured list Friday. Harris had been out of action at Las Vegas for nearly two months before making his return from the shelf. The 26-year-old third baseman is slashing .382/.462/.636 with three home runs and three stolen bases in 65 plate appearances at Las Vegas for the season and could merit consideration for a promotion to the Athletics if he can maintain a good run of health.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Begins rehab assignment

Harris (oblique) opened a rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas and went 1-for-3 with a stolen base while playing seven innings at third base in a 9-4 loss to Reno. Harris didn't play in any Cactus League games after Feb. 26 due to a left oblique strain that resulted in him opening the season on the 10-day injured list, but after he was recently able to take part in some simulated games at Athletics camp in Arizona, he was given the green light to head out on a rehab assignment. The 26-year-old may need only a few games at Triple-A to prove his health, but since he doesn't appear to have a path to a spot on Athletics' active roster at the moment, Harris could be optioned to Las Vegas once he's reinstated from the IL.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Lands on IL

The Athletics placed Harris (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Harris strained his left oblique in early March and hadn't appeared in a spring training game since then. The Athletics haven't offered up a timetable for his return, but he'll most likely be sidelined for much of April. Harris hit .146 with three home runs and 12 RBI over 123 plate appearances over 36 games with the Athletics in 2024.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Battling oblique strain

The Athletics announced Tuesday that Harris is recovering from a left oblique strain, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. The injury explains why Harris hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game since Wednesday. While a timeline for Harris' return to game action hasn't been established, the oblique strain could effectively spell an end to the 26-year-old's bid for winning a spot on the Opening Day roster as a reserve infielder. Harris reached the big leagues for the first time in 2024, slashing .146/.276/.262 with a 14.2 percent walk rate and 20.3 percent strikeout rate over 123 plate appearances for the Athletics.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Heads to Triple-A

The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. Harris had been hitless across his last six contests. With Harris back in the minors, Abraham Toro should return to being the Athletics' everyday third baseman.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Window for playing time closes

Harris is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. Harris had started at third base in all but one of the Athletics' ensuing 14 games following his promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas on July 2, but his time as a regular in the Oakland lineup looks to be over. Abraham Toro (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list and will immediately reclaim starting duties at third base in Sunday's series finale against the Angels while Harris heads to the bench. Harris saw time at the keystone with Las Vegas earlier this season, but he doesn't have a path to playing time at that position either while Zack Gelof is entrenched as the top option.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: On bench Friday

Harris is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels. Harris has been the Athletics' primary third baseman with Abraham Toro (hamstring) sidelined but could begin to split time with Max Schuemann at the hot corner now that top prospect Jacob Wilson is handling shortstop. Harris is slashing .163/.284/.302 with three home runs in 102 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Multiple hits in loss

Harris went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a loss to the Phillies on Saturday. Harris entered the night in a 1-for-14 skid that had encompassed his previous four games, but he snapped out of it with only the third multi-hit effort of his nascent 28-game big-league career. The rookie has continued to see everyday playing time, mostly at third base, despite his struggles, although he's yet to hit higher than eighth to this point.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: First three-hit game of career

Harris went 3-for-4 with an RBI infield single, two doubles, a walk and three runs in a win over the Orioles on Saturday. The rookie was a catalyst in the Athletics' 19-run outburst, driving in Armando Alvarez with his second-inning single and crossing the plate on three occasions thanks to his constant presence on the basepaths. Harris has reached safely in four of the first five games of his current big-league stint, and Saturday marked the first three-hit game of his young career.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Plates pair in return

Harris, recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, went 1-for-4 with a two-run double and a run in a win over the Angels on Tuesday. The rookie made an instant impact in his first big-league action since May 22, plating Lawrence Butler and Zack Gelof with his sixth-inning two-bagger to extend the Athletics' lead to 6-1. Harris finished the first big-league stint of his career earlier this season in an 0-for-14 funk that included a massive 43.8-percent strikeout rate, so his ability to break the ice at the plate on his first night back was a particularly welcome sight.

  • Athletics' Brett Harris: Returns to majors

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Since being optioned to Triple-A in late May, Harris has slashed .366/.458/.659 with three homers and nine RBI in 11 games. He'll now get another chance to prove himself in the big leagues after the A's pushed Aledmys Diaz off their 40-man roster Tuesday. Harris started exclusively at third base during his previous stint with Oakland, where he'll now likely have to compete with Tyler Nevin for playing time until Abraham Toro (hamstring) returns from the IL.
