Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Dealing with elbow bruise

Rendon was diagnosed with a bruised left elbow after exiting Saturday's game against the Marlins, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Rendon left Saturday's game after being hit by a pitch on the left elbow, but thankfully he was able to avoid a fracture. Manager Dave Martinez said the 28-year-old could avoid the injured list and should be considered day-to-day until he is further evaluated Sunday morning.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Brewers' Mike Moustakas: Leaves Saturday's game

Moustakas was removed from Saturday's game against the Dodgers with right hand discomfort, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Moustakas went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts before he was replaced at third base by Travis Shaw. The 30-year-old made a diving stop in the field earlier in the game, but it's unclear if that was the cause of the issue.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Homers in first inning

Escobar went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Cubs.

Escobar's first-inning homer, his second home run this season, was all Zack Greinke and Taylor Clarke needed. The infielder entered 2019 coming off two straight seasons of at least 20 home runs but has been slow out of the gate in the power department. Saturday's five total bases pushed his slugging percentage up to .319, well off the .471 slugging percentage he posted over the last two seasons.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Exits after getting hit by pitch

Rendon left Saturday's game against the Marlins after getting hit by a pitch, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Rendon appeared to be in pain after the pitch struck his left elbow. He stayed in the game to run the bases but was pulled after the inning ended. The specifics of the injury are not yet clear.

  • Mitch Walding 3B | PHI

Phillies' Mitch Walding: Recalled from Triple-A

Walding was recalled by the Phillies on Saturday.

The Phillies lost a pair of shortstops to hamstring strains in Jean Segura and Scott Kingery. Walding will take one of their roster spots but is unlikely to take their playing time, as he's exclusively a corner infielder. He'll likely be nothing more than a bench bat and doesn't project as a particularly good one after striking out in 12 of his 19 plate appearances in his debut last season.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Placed on injured list

Segura (hamstring) was placed on the injured list Saturday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Segura was expected to only miss three or four days with his hamstring strain but will wind up missing at least 10. With Scott Kingery heading to the injured list with a hamstring issue of his own, Phil Gosselin appears to be the next man up at shortstop.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Heads to bench

Muncy is not starting Saturday against the Brewers.

Muncy will sit after starting seven straight games. David Freese will get the start at first base despite right-hander Chase Anderson starting for the Brewers.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Sits for first time

Arenado will sit for the first time this season Saturday against the Phillies, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Arenado will get the day off following a 12-inning contest. Ryan McMahon will slide over to third base in his absence, with Mark Reynolds starting at first.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Extends hitting streak to 17 games

Rendon went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double in Friday's loss to the Marlins.

After going 0-for-4 on Opening Day, Rendon hasn't been held hitless since, slashing .400/.474/.831 with 10 doubles, six homers, 18 RBI and 20 runs over the course of a 17-game streak. The Nats remain in discussions with him about a contract extension, but the 28-year-old isn't getting any cheaper with his current tear.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Still sitting Friday

Segura (hamstring) remains out of action Friday against the Rockies, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Segura was reportedly expected to miss 3-to-4 days after straining his hamstring Tuesday. That makes Friday's absence no surprise and points towards a possible Saturday return. Scott Kingery starts at shortstop in his absence.
