  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: On bench amid slump

Wisdom is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mets.

Wisdom was among the most productive hitters in baseball in April, but he's slashed just .163/.293/.327 across 59 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to May. Miles Mastrobuoni will handle third base and bat second Wednesday versus New York. Christopher Morel is serving as the DH and hitting seventh.

  • Julio Carreras 3B | COL

Rockies' Julio Carreras: Comes off IL

Carreras (undisclosed) has gone 5-for-20 with three runs and three RBI in five games since being reinstated from Double-A Hartford's 7-day injured list May 17.

Carreras missed just under a month due to the unspecified injury. Through 76 plate appearances in the Eastern League this season, the 23-year-old shortstop is slashing .265/.333/.397 with five extra-base hits, three stolen bases and a 28.9 percent strikeout rate.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

    Giants' J.D. Davis: Resting Wednesday

Davis is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Davis will hit the bench after going 3-for-16 with a home run, two doubles, three walks, four RBI and four runs while starting in each of the past five games. With Davis out of the lineup, second baseman Thairo Estrada will get a day out of the field and occupy the designated-hitter spot.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: On bench Wednesday

Sosa is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Diamondbacks.

Sosa will head to the bench after he went 0-for-2 in Tuesday's 4-3 loss. Alec Bohm will slide over to the hot corner while Kody Clemens draws the start at first base and bats sixth in the series finale with Arizona.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Swipes bag in win

McMahon went 0-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Marlins.

McMahon knocked in a run with a fielder's choice in the fifth inning and promptly stole second. He's now 0-for-11 across the last three games, and his RBI was his third over the last 11 contests. For the season, the infielder is slashing a poor .216/.290/.377 with four home runs, four steals, 19 RBI and 21 runs scored through 47 games.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Takes swings Tuesday

Machado (hand) took swings off a tee Tuesday, Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic reports.

Padres manager Bob Melvin told reporters after the workout that he's not sure when Machado will be ready to come off the injured list. He's first eligible for activation this Friday, though that would be fairly aggressive timeline given the star third baseman has a small fracture in his left hand. There should be more clarity on the situation after a few more days of treatment and baseball activity.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

    Rockies' Mike Moustakas: Sitting Monday

Moustakas is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Marlins.

Moustakas will take a seat after he went 3-for-7 with a run scored and an RBI while starting two games during the Rockies' three-game series with Texas. Michael Toglia will take over at first base and bat eighth in the series opener with Miami.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Not in Monday's lineup

Sosa is absent from the Phillies' lineup for Monday's contest versus the Diamondbacks, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Sosa has struggled in May following a nice April, although he did have five hits over the weekend against the Cubs. Josh Harrison will be at third base Monday.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Four more hits Sunday

Candelario went 4-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's win over the Tigers.

The 29-year-old switch hitter did his best to make Detroit regret letting him go last fall. Over the course of a three-game series against the Tigers, Candelario went 6-for-13, and over his last 11 contests he's slashing .450/.522/.800 with half of his 18 hits going for extra bases (six doubles, a triple and two home runs.)

  • Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Pops second homer

Vargas went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Tigers.

Getting a rare start at shortstop and batting seventh, Vargas took Joey Wentz deep in the third inning for his second homer of the year. The 31-year-old utility player has been productive when called upon -- he's made seven appearances in May and produced four multi-hit performances, batting .458 (11-for-24) on the month with seven RBI.
