  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Sitting against righty again

Monasterio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. Monasterio will hit the bench for the third time in four games, with each of his absences coming while Boston has faced right-handed starting pitchers. Though Monasterio appeared to have temporarily taken over as the preferred shortstop when Trevor Story (sports hernia) landed on the injured list last weekend, interim manager Chad Tracy recently said that Marcelo Mayer will become the primary option at the position. Monasterio will vie with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Nick Sogard for playing time at second base while Mayer is occupying shortstop.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Heading to bench Wednesday

Monasterio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will get the nod at shortstop Wednesday, but Monasterio looks to be the Red Sox's preferred option at the position while Trevor Story (sports hernia) is stuck on the injured list. Prior to Wednesday, Monasterio had started each of the last six games -- four at shortstop, two at designated hitter -- and went 6-for-22 with three doubles and a run during that stretch.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Makes fourth straight start

Monasterio started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 in Monday's 3-1 win over Kansas City. Monasterio made a fourth consecutive start at shortstop as a fill-in for Trevor Story (groin), who could be facing surgery. The Red Sox have a few options to deploy at shortstop, but thus far interim manager Chad Tracy has only used Monasterio. He's slashing .256/.301/.397 with eight doubles, one home run, nine RBI and eight runs scored over 83 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Slides in at shortstop

Monasterio started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 8-1 loss to Atlanta. Monasterio has made two consecutive starts at shortstop, as Trevor Story (groin) was added to the injured list and could face surgery. It's unclear if Monasterio will become the everyday fill-in at shortstop, but interim manager Chad Tracy put him in the starting lineup against right-handers Saturday and Sunday. Other than Monasterio, the Red Sox have a host of options on the 26-man roster that can play shortstop, including Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Nick Sogard and Marcelo Mayer.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Three XBH in Saturday's rout

Monasterio went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI in Saturday's 17-1 win over the Orioles. Batting fifth as the DH, Monasterio banged out extra-base hits against three different Baltimore hurlers, including a grand slam in the ninth inning off Keegan Akin. It was the first homer of the year for the 28-year-old infielder, and through his first 13 games with the Red Sox, Monasterio is slashing .243/.317/.432 with one steal, five runs and seven RBI.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Slots in at first base

Monasterio started at first base and went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 9-5 win over Minnesota. Monasterio, who stepped in at first base Tuesday when Willson Contreras was removed due to a back issue, started there Wednesday. The three-hit day was the first multi-hit effort of the season for Monasterio, who entered the contest batting .143 (2-for-14) in limited playing time. The Red Sox are off Thursday, which gives Contreras downtime ahead of the four-game set with the Tigers begins Friday.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Enters as pinch hitter

Monasterio went 1-for-2 with a double in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Cincinnati. Monasterio, who made his first appearance of the regular season, pinch hit for Marcelo Mayer in the seventh inning against a right-handed reliever and remained in the game at second base. The backup gave the Red Sox some hope in the ninth inning with a one-out double, but he was stranded there. With Mayer routinely hitting the bench against left-handers, Monasterio and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are positioned to be part of a platoon at second base.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Emerges as frontrunner

Monasterio has emerged as the frontrunner for a utility role with Romy Gonzalez (shoulder) placed on the 60-day injured list, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Monasterio served as the designated hitter Thursday and went 1-for-4 in a spring game against the Twins. Gonzalez's injury -- he underwent surgery Thursday and was placed on the 60-day IL -- has meant ample opportunity for Monasterio, who was a minor piece in the six-player trade with Milwaukee that brought Caleb Durbin to Boston. Over 10 Grapefruit League games, Monasterio has made appearances at third base, shortstop, first base and DH, going 8-for-23 (.348) with four walks, a double, a home run, five RBI and two stolen bases. Additionally, the latest roster projection from Ian Browne of MLB.com has Monasterio and Isiah Kiner-Falefa making the 26-man roster in utility roles.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Sent to Boston in trade

The Red Sox acquired Monasterio on Monday in a trade with the Brewers, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Monasterio offers a steady glove at multiple infield spots and he improved offensively with the Brewers in 2025, slashing .270/.319/.437 with four home runs over 68 regular-season contests. The 28-year-old enters a crowded infield picture for the Red Sox and will most likely open 2026 in a reserve role.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Sitting in Ortiz's return

Monasterio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies. With Joey Ortiz (hamstring) returning from the 10-day injured list and stepping back in at shortstop Monday, Monasterio appears set to move back into a utility role. Monasterio filled in admirably for Ortiz, covering shortstop for each of the past 10 games while slashing .371/.405/.657 with two home runs, four doubles, one walk, five runs and four RBI. Monasterio still has an active 11-game hitting streak, during which the 28-year-old has raised his season average from .242 to .294.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Filling in for resting Durbin

Monasterio will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Reds, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Monasterio made three starts in the Brewers' ensuing six games following his promotion from Triple-A Nashville on May 9, but playing time has been scarce ever since for the 28-year-old. He'll crack the lineup for the first time since May 26, stepping in at the hot corner for a resting Caleb Durbin.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Back with big club

The Brewers recalled Monasterio from Triple-A Nashville on Friday. Monasterio slashed just .208/.303/.272 over 59 games with Milwaukee last season. He will be used as a utility infielder.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Swipes bag in win

Monasterio went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 9-0 win over the Pirates. Monasterio has a pair of multi-hit efforts over seven games in July, but he's gone hitless in four other contests this month. The infielder is slashing a meager .200/.286/.267 with one home run, nine RBI, nine runs scored and four stolen bases across 84 plate appearances. While Joey Ortiz (neck) is on the injured list, Monasterio has shared third base with Vinny Capra, though neither player has done much with their extra playing time.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Sitting Tuesday

Monasterio isn't in the Brewers' lineup Tuesday versus Pittsburgh. Monasterio has struggled since taking over for Joey Ortiz (neck) as Milwaukee's primary third baseman, going just 2-for-15 at the plate in his last four games. He'll give way to Vinny Capra on Tuesday, who will bat ninth while manning the hot corner.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Back up to majors

The Brewers recalled Monasterio from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday. Monasterio has appeared in four games with the Brewers this season, going 0-for-7 with two runs and two walks. He's slashing .243/.362/.297 with seven runs, two doubles, six steals and four RBI over 47 plates appearances in Triple-A this season. Monasterio's move up to the majors corresponds with the Brewers placing Joey Wiemer (knee) on the 10-day injured list.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Recalled from Triple-A

Monasterio was recalled from Triple-A Nashville by the Brewers on Friday. Monasterio was hitless in seven at-bats earlier this season with the Brewers and went 5-for-12 during his time at Nashville. He will provide Milwaukee with infield depth.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Handling third base in opener

Monasterio is starting at third base and batting ninth in Friday's opener against the Mets. The 26-year-old is part of a lineup loaded with righties and switch hitters versus southpaw Jose Quintana. Monasterio slashed .291/.387/.392 against left-handers last season.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Secures roster spot

The Brewers informed Monasterio on Monday that he'll be included on the Opening Day roster, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Monasterio will be part of his first Opening Day roster after he impressed the Brewers with his on-base skills and defensive versatility last season upon receiving his first call to the big leagues in late May. While picking up 77 total starts between second base, third base and shortstop, Monasterio slashed .259/.330/.348 across 315 plate appearances. Though injuries to other infielders helped him secure steady playing time for much of his time in the big leagues last season, Monasterio is likely to handle a short-side platoon role to begin 2024. He'll be a candidate to replace Brice Turang at second base or Sal Frelick at third base when the Brewers face left-handed pitching.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Again retreats to bench

Monasterio is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. Monasterio started 21 straight games from Aug. 23 through Sept. 15, but he now finds himself out of the lineup for the second time in three days. Josh Donaldson will man the hot corner for a third straight game and could continue cutting into Monasterio's playing time.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Day off Saturday

Monasterio will sit Saturday against the Nationals. Monasterio has settled into an everyday role in the second half, with Saturday's off day being just his third since the break. His bat has been sub-par for an everyday corner infielder, however, as his .270/.344/.369 slash line is good for a modest 97 wRC+. Josh Donaldson will take over at the hot corner Saturday.
