  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Nationals' Nick Senzel: Out again Friday

Senzel (illness) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Marlins.

Senzel was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup due to illness and will now miss a second straight start. The Nationals will use Trey Lipscomb as a fill-in at third base.

  • Zack Short SS | HOU

Mets' Zack Short: Removed from 40-man roster

Short was designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday.

Short is clearing out as J.D. Martinez is added to the Mets' active roster. The 28-year-old utility player had received just 12 plate appearances this month with the big club, picking up one hit. It's possible he'll draw some interest from a team seeking defensive versatility.

  • Eguy Rosario 3B | SD

Padres' Eguy Rosario: Picking up more playing time

Rosario went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI in Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Rockies.

Rosario made his third start at third base in four games, with Thursday's assignment being particularly notable since it came with the Padres facing a right-handed hurler in Colorado's Dakota Hudson. Tyler Wade had been starting at the hot corner against right-handers in the early part of the season, but Rosario could end up unseating him as the preferred option at the position, at least until Manny Machado is able to play the field once he completes his recovery from offseason elbow surgery. Rosario has been more productive at the dish than Wade this season with a .282/.333/.564 slash line, two home runs, five doubles and five RBI over 43 plate appearances, and the 24-year-old might have earned himself more opportunities against right-handed pitching as a result.

  • Tyler Wade SS | TEX

Padres' Tyler Wade: Makes start in left field

Wade was the Padres' starting left fielder in Thursday's loss against Colorado and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base.

Wade got his first look in the outfield this season -- previously, all of his defensive work had come at either third or second base. The veteran has plenty of outfield experience in his career, logging at least a handful of games there in every campaign except 2020. Wade's versatility could help him continue to start semi-regularly even as Eguy Rosario gets more reps at third base. Rosario has started at the hot corner in three of San Diego's past four contests, with Thursday's game being particularly notable as the Rockies started a right-handed pitcher.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Nationals' Nick Senzel: Scratched Thursday

Senzel was scratched from Washington's lineup ahead of Thursday's game versus the Dodgers due to a stomach illness.

Ildemaro Vargas will cover third base instead and bat eighth while Senzel is under the weather. The 28-year-old has hit safely in three of his last four games, homering twice.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Takes seat against southpaw

Muncy is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

With the Dodgers and Nationals concluding their series with a day game after a night game and with southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the bump for Washington, Muncy is one of three lefty-hitting regulars who will get the afternoon off. Muncy will be joined on the bench by Gavin Lux and James Outman.

  • Trey Lipscomb 3B | WAS

    Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Sitting Thursday

Lipscomb isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Lipscomb will take a seat after going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored during Wednesday's 11-2 loss. Joey Meneses will start at first base in his absence, while Jesse Winker serves as Washington's designated hitter.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Gets first off day of season

Morel is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

The Cubs will hand Morel his first day off of the season while he's fallen into a slump at the dish of late; he's gone 4-for-45 (.089 average) and is getting on base at a .222 clip over his last 13 games. Morel still looks to be entrenched in an everyday role at third base, but Nick Madrigal will occupy the hot corner Thursday.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Not in Thursday's lineup

Hayes is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Hayes looks to be getting some routine maintenance for a day game after a night game. With Hayes on the bench, the Pirates will shift Jared Triolo over to third base Thursday and give Alika Williams a start at second base.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Four more hits Wednesday

Bohm went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a walk in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Reds.

Bohm's been on a tear of late. He now has multiple hits in four straight contests while extending his hitting streak to eight games -- he's 16-for-30 with a 1.522 OPS in that span. The 27-year-old Bohm's now slashing .337/.430/.558 with three homers, 21 RBI and 11 runs scored through his first 25 games this season.
